I could listen to this band all day long. I remember way back in my youth (now 89) standing in front of the Basie band and just letting that awesome sound wash over me. ❤😊❤

I love Thad-brilliant writer, fantastic soloist-but the Basie band had played these charts a million times. They didn’t need Thad standing up front “conducting” them. I don’t think Thad led them for very long. Frank Foster led them for a long time. But I guess Thad couldn’t resist. The one critique people had of Thad with Thad and Mel’s band was that Thad didn’t play enough. When he led the Basie band that might’ve been worse-there were always guys in the Basie trumpet section who could solo.

Even though the Count was gone, they were still the best!
And to see and hear Joe Williams again!!! WOW! Just loved his sound!! ❤❤❤❤❤

I was there that evening, and it wasn´t that great a concert... sorry to say. The only star that night was Freddie Green´s guitar...
Sounds pretty darn good to me.
