It's SUCH a good feeling to just hop back in there and play through the old decks again. Comfortable, strategic, really good time. I feel like I'm making a ton of really consequential decisions, and nothing feels safe. Resources are limited, choices have high impact, and the cards in play are a really limited selection. Feels a lot more like a duel, and you gotta make the most out of your resources.
The constant escalation of card generation is what I feel really caused the game to break down. Modern HS has you playing cards discovered from cards generated by cards from discovered cards. So nice to see people actually just play what's in their deck.
@@nondescriptname well but that is exactly what does make modern hs so fun to play :) no game is the same and you constantly have to adapt to what you got from a discover or smth... what I dont really like are things like hunter quest or the extremely cheap burst options tho
@@cbuckington2933 There is a balance to be struck and most players I've talked to (who no longer play standard because of this) agree that we are well across the line. Some swing is good. All swing, every game, every single turn, is absurd.
classic mode is what brought me back in 2023. The did the same thing to Hearthstone that ruined Magic the gathering, too many expansions, too many new mechanics, too powerful new cards, etc.
Without all those random generation cards Hearthstone is actually fun again! They really overdid that aspect of the game IMO. Glad to be back in 2014 :D
hearthstones next expansion is releasing with a "classic" mode where its only old cards (pretty sure its only cards that were out on release but i could be wrong on that)

@@Sk8r115 It's actually way more than that. Miracle rogue can do 30 damage from hand on 10 mana without breaking a sweat, especially if you have a weapon with poison pre-equipped. Played 6-7 games of miracle today, won them all by bursting people down from 20+ hp on turn 8-9 every time:D
Because Blizzard hated rogue. Then we had mill rogue for a little while (imo one of the most fun decks in hs history), but then Blizzard said "There's still a seriously playable rogue deck? We need to change that." and gave control warrior too much armor gain and zoolock too much zoo in old gods.
I added in crazy alchemist for the control warrior matchup to answer the armorsmiths. But I don't really know if it's good. Sometimes you can just play it early on to get something on the board. Also, as I've become paranoid about weapon removal (as you do when playing rogue), I've started to poke with the fresh dagger on 3 and then lose the other durability on 4, to avoid getting on-curve-Harrison'ed. Edit: I also run one ooze, to sometimes break coin fiery win axe and other weapons, but also just as early board-fodder.

Yeah tbh not sure why they bothered to introduce this, it's kind of a novel thing at first and then everyone will stop playing after a week. Only thing I could see working is a "window to the past" game mode, where instead of just classic, it rotates between various times in hearthstone. So we could revisit classic, then next expansion we visit Ungoro, then we could say hello to the old gods, ect.
They're kind of doing a mirror into WoW as per usual, making a classic mode for Hearthstone as well. It's just for the nostalgia, the people who played backed then.

I think the value in the format is the fact it never changes. I really find classic appealing because I know it will be the same game in a years time; I think the downside people see as "always playing against the same 4 decks" is an upside to me. I like the idea of a very small contained competitive environment, with no random card generation and every deck having a finite amount of damage often through a burst combo. It appeals to me in the same way chess appeals to me. And I will likely play it until the queue times get ultra-long.

What are talking about? Questing was a budget substitute for Edwin. Except for the violet teachers, this is pretty much default miracle rogue. Also, this can still do OTKs. It's just not what it's supposed to do.
There is counterplay. You gotta play the right decks and run the counters in it. You can't be greedy and try to counter the whole meta. It's just how the meta adjusts.
If the only counterplay is drawing 1 or 2 cards among 30, while the opponent can end the game the first or second turn his auctioneer stays alive. Even if the meta changes, I REALLY didn't like playing against that bs.

Hard same, it was a great feeling when I pulled up their Wallet Warrior list and I had enough dust to craft the last few cards I was missing.
Still missing rag and kinda unsure to craft it, but I have tons of fun between Ragnaros less wallet warrior and OG handlock today

There's a 'Classic' mode in the game now where you can just play the Classic and Basic set as it was back in 2014.
