Setting too many bars and getting nowhere... Painfully relatable
love you travis ! I thank god for having you in my life through youtube. Always when I am in some sort of career doubt or when I need a prespective I approach you youtube channel. What you do means alot. Thank You , Really !
Very wise advice here! I am turning 43 next year, and it will be the year of coding all day every day. Trying to land that first job and working on exciting side projects. I look forward to it, and I also look forward to the years that follow when I take back my hobbies 😂 (I’m not leaving them completely, just, lesser priority). Let’s go! 🤘🏼💪🏼👩🏻💻
I'm also turning 43 and starting to learn coding, I was thinking at this moment that I was overaged to start all the way new career. Saw your comment, a beacon of light in despondency
lol 43 here too
I code because I like it, coding is my hobby. If I will not get a job in coding doesn't matter, I have a skill to tech my son.
Same here. I started learning to code in September of 23, turned 43 in October, and felt comfortable enough to apply for my first Developer job a week ago with my current company. I don't think I will get it, but who knows... The experience of the interview will be worth it. Goal of getting that first tech job in 2024. I diverted a large portion of my gaming addiction to learning to code.
it's so easy to get caught up in this trap I need to learn everything as soon as possible. It might look a right attitude to have but it is actually of no use in the long run. thanks for reminding us to prioritize out health!
This is exactly what i needed. Thanks Travis!
Thank you Travis, I needed this video
Thanks, Travis. This very true and very helpful
Thank You Travis
I just love the suggested principles, it is practical and effective. THanks you so much for this.
What I liked about your principles Travis is that they are very logical and relatable and at the same time easy-to-implement. The only prerequisites are consistency and integrity, but as always, it is easier said than done. Thanks for the valuable insights that you share
You have inspired me, thank you very much, Travis
Amazing video Travis, Thank you the video hit home on so many levels...
I find this kind of videos extremely useful, it helps me to stop for while and think deeply about my goals, for the next year I 'm plaining to become a DevOps engineer. I've done some interviews already !
Same for me
Just what I needed to hear, thanks a lot!
Very motivating & inspiring. Thanks Travis
Thanks a million for the great advice. 2023 was a crazy year for me, I had hoped I would have more time to put the grind in and hopefully get a job but family and young kids demand so much of my time. I'm thankful for my family though and I must say I learned a lot even though I didn't land the job yet. I'm positive going into 2024 and I hope and pray for great things to come but I'll just take it one day at a time.
2023 - “learned a lot” & “thankful for my family” (both a win!)
2024 - wide open!
Thank you... Valuable content
Sir, those are mighty good bits of advice. Thank you!
Best New Year's Resolution advice
Continue to enjoy the channel. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great video Travis, thank you! Aging well like wine! :-)
Nice; Thanks!
This is very timely. I always feel like if I don't do anything related to code, I'll forget everything.
@travis is GEM!
2024: Find and enjoy working a Devops role.
By consistently working on that one thing, I hope a time like this next year, we shall come back and say we are on track.
thanks💥
Love you bro 🙏
🙏🏻
Top notch
I like the "Annual review" and "yearly integrity report" done every 6 months respectively from the Atomic Habits book. The same three questions every time (per form), but I always give different answers, and doing this for nearly two years now shows an interesting progression of both what occupies my mind and where I am in life. I can recommend giving it a try! Anyhow, solid video Travis!
Age 43 here... planning to leave my job in education and start learning new skills. Mortgage is almost paid off, so if not now, when? Teaching jobs will always exist and will always pay poorly, so there will always be a safe space for me there. Hope I never go back !
Thank you, I think you put your hand at my pain
I always do my plan and my list by 23rd November.
I'm going back school to get my comp-sci in 24. I think becoming an AI specialist will be great in this new golden age of CS. been messing with python and the holly trinity (html, css, java script). Any tips or advice to be more successful at this will be appreciated. Thanks Travis for your efforts.
I gave up the AI/Ml path because i couldn’t find a job even after working as a data scientist for two years. This field is extremely competitive and to succeed at it you have to specialise in a field of A.I. such as NLP/CV/Recommender systems. And you will have a ton of competition from postgrads.
wow it's that intense huh well thank you for telling me, maybe networking engineer would be better...
@@madcow3235 Unless you have at least a master's degree, it's very hard because of employer bias, so I would suggest to you it isn't worth your effort. The pay is equal to other developer jobs anyway.
@Jerry-uc1pn I hear ya... maybe another direction in IT then
I came here for my daily Seinfeld reference, thank you.
Stop being a hermit, got it.. /s
What about shitposting on LinkedIn
easy:
1. Born rich or inherit from rich parents
2. Invest
3. ?????
4. PROFIT
For everyone else - work like a slave for pennies (even as a software engineer its still pennies compared to truly rich)
You missed the "do not compare yourself to others" part. Best advice: every day compare yourself to yourself from one day ago - you will see the progress
Im not getting anywhere because im not getting any replies!
Sell your soul to AI
Hi Travis, thank you for this video and all the positive energy you have brought me and to the community. I started watching your video a couple months ago and I could really feel how much efforts you've put into them. Really love your contents and I feel really happy for you to see your followers grow so fast, you deserve it! Look forward to more great contents from you in 2024! Thanks again!
Btw, I'm reading "The One Thing" and almost finish it, and the reason why I read is because of your other video "4 Books That Shaped Me as a Developer" (th-cam.com/video/MxYbHR2P3OE/w-d-xo.html). For those who didn't watch it, go do it! You will be happy what you've discovered.
Thanks for the feedback! Best to you in the new year!
