As a former goodwill manager for almost 5 years, I have a pretty good idea about how goodwill gets these items in the first place. A lot of the nice tech items would get dropped off by older parents who are A) sick of their adult childs shit so they get rid of anything they deem to be a distraction for said adult child. B) They are completely unaware of what it is and simply haven't seen it be used in a year or more. So they get rid of it during spring cleaning. Or C) The owner died and the person donating is just getting rid of it because they are responsible for cleaning up after.
One time I saw 5 RC plane controllers. I'm pretty sure somebody's grandpa died...

They're not that expensive
bwahahaha OK you don't shop on there much. I've been a regular for over a decade as I'm a reseller... seriously, they'll sometimes hit you for $30 postage on a 1lb box. Always check first!!@@xXVibrantSnowXx
It varies heavily. Goodwill has really hit or miss shipping depending on the size.

What is worse are the guys who go shopping and buy all the nice clothes and shoes to resell at crazy prices meanwhile the poor person in need of some new clothes or shoes for idk a job interview are gone and only rags remain

That'S a big problem with TH-cam. Raising prices and/or making cool stuff disappear for the rest of us.
Having worked in a goodwill, I can confirm that the HDDs and SSDs get like... Turbo wiped seperately, if not outright destroyed. Same with unmarked DVDs, VHSes, CDs, etc. Anything that might contain personal information or, more importantly 'illegal adult material', is destroyed. Goodwill is not taking chances with potentially getting a predator's wank stash lol.

I think stores like salvo’s Vinnie’s and lifeline would be our closest. Picked up a couple of Atari 2600 games from salvo’s online for when the 2600+ comes out. Good thing that if there are multiple stores you only have 1 order. Also grabbed some games from my local lifeline recently.

The optiplex 760 was such a throwback to when I first started getting into PC hardware. I was using it for school and animating but it could barely run blender. It had a 4770k and I looked up graphics cards and ended up with some $50 MSI radeon HD card and that's when my addiction began lol

A friend of mine gave me a system with a 4930k and 1060 6gb as payment for waiting in line for him when the 3090 launched. A few months later, I built my own system around a 5900X and 3090. My single-core Cinebench score was higher on the 5900X than the multi-core score of the 4930k

I'm old enough to remember using a Mavica as my very first digital camera experience, it was mind blowing! And that was back in 1997, I think it took VGA-res pictures... But man, when you compare the convenience compared to taking film to the photo place and waiting a day or two to get pictures back (of which at least 50% were blurry or not framed correctly), it was a real revolution!
Mine was with a samsung digimax in around 2002! I don't remember the model, i was pretty young and it's long gone. My parents later replaced it with a digimax s500 that lives to this day x)
I want to see Austin bring these old apple products into his local apple, asking if they can help him update them.
As someone who lives in Charlotte and been to the store.... Nothing in there is worth the price they were asking. They were selling used Rasp Pi above new market value.
A few years ago at the old location you could get some really great deals. Remember getting gameboys for $10. Not anymore unfortunately
Austin! I volunteer putting on reto gaminging events at my local library, you didn't mention them but kids these days go crazy for those kinect games! We only have a few of them and sadly weren't able to get any off the 360 store before it shut down. You should do a video showcasing which one's you got lol

Awesome! I own a camera similar to the floppy disc one, a Sony Mavica FD71- 2.5mp. Actually took not that bad of photos at the time, until we got a Kodak camera which ended up blowing it out of the water for clarity. Amusing part, is ours still works as well.

That Dell OptiPlex 760 looks identical to one someone in my family still has and uses to this day, a Dell OptiPlex 755. It was overrun with programs and viruses, but after fixing it, it's working like a charm, but then the HDD wiped itself of all data, but I just reinstalled the OS and now it's working again and has been for a few months now.
I had completely forgotten about that camera I worked at Sears when this came out 😂
I dont think that was the original battery that came with that HP laptop. We used to could buy better batteries back in the day where they were pretty much double the size of the original one. thats what looks like someone had done there also. great find.

In all honesty, I did get a fat ps3 on auction from goodwill for about $80 on eBay, fully working, with Assassins creed 1-3 on disk and 2 controllers. About ~$3 shipping from VA to FL, so it wasn’t bad at all. Depends on the platform and store of purchase I guess
Something must have changed since you bought that. I bought a Wii game and the shipping was like $10 and also had a "handling fee" of $2. Handling Wii games is so arduous, apparently. I thought the handling fee was the shipping price or I wouldn't have bought it. The shipping for nearly everything on there is $10 or more. Something heavy like a PS3 has shipping that's like $30 or $40. I live in SC and my game shipped from VA, not that far and most of the stuff I find there is either in VA or GA.

As someome who works for goodwill, you see a lot of things donated and wonder why. Someone donated a Virtual Boy with 9 games. It had the 2 mario games and Wario Land.
I’ve been to the Charlotte, NC, Grid store. Prices are great, selection is decent. You can get a working Core 2 Duo iMac for under $50
I got second hand embarrassment from that drop

There is a physical brick and mortar location for "The Grid" here in Charlotte, NC. It's actually pretty cool! Depends on when you go in but i've seen tons of classic gaming stuff in the past and really fair prices on some quality gear if you're willing to dig around a bit!
I took a Sony Mavica and a few Floppy Disks to my Senior Prom back in 2006. Had it hanging around my neck looking like I was the coolest in my teal suit coat and khaki pants.
I had an old laptop of similar age with Vista on it (an old Sony, back when they used to still make laptops), and I managed to successfully install Windows 10 on it. Runs better than it ever did. Throw in a cheap SSD instead of the old (now very clicky) HDD, and its a pretty usable laptop. Lots of ways those old machines can still be used with only a minor amount of upgrading & cost, assuming the rest of the hardware is ok.
is there a goodwill standard to have a metric of consistency? I never think of them and if so, like a flee market or yard sale of varying finds.
I think goodwill is the same as pawn shops. Sometimes you find a great deal but most times its overpriced good.

I’ve local pick uped 3 6th gen I7 SFF optiplexes from the grid. $80-120 each all with 16-32 gigs of ram. No storage. Add a nvme drive and drop in a GPU.
i can relate to the 12 year old so much. i remember buying pretty much the same pc from alaro. it was fine for a few months then it started black screening and randomly shutting off. they never refunded me or compensated with anything. worst brand ever

the DV6000 laptop was the first laptop I owned.. lol not the one in this video. I moved from that to an even rarer laptop, the Dell Studio 1569 mocha. i'm getting that one back soon since I restored and upgraded her to a Gen 1 Lenovo x1 carbon.
back in 202 I bought a pallet if 16 Pentium 3 Pc's at a local goodwill auction. I got 7 of them working and set them up on a network in my townhouse running cables through the house under moldings and to the basement through my kitchen floor vent and had a pc set up in every room for huge AOE network games. only computer I took with me in 2005 when I moved to illinois was my DV6000...lol
I can totally understand why some people drop something good to goodwill. Second hand market is full of lowballing offers and frauds. Dealing with people in there could be annoying. They drop items to goodwill will make these awful buyers or sellers have to do something good to obtain these items. This is why.

I still use my computer I built in 2013 while in Highschool and it still runs super well.. I only upgraded one thing in 2019 which was I upgraded from a 770 SC to a 1070 since I got it for 100 bucks.

those 3930K can still play a lot of games and run w10 just fine, just put like 1060 or 1660 super on it. i'm still using 3470 with rx570 and i can still play games on medium to low graphics, i can stream and edit videos using this setup! and i only use 8GB ram with HDD LOL.
Hey, how did you get backwards compatibility on this PS3? I'm certain Sony disabled it later, on the 80GB model.
