Even though I'm circa 78, I remember so many of these including the one from 1990 with the face of the little girl listening to her mum. They are near all so powerful.
Interestingly enough, drink-driving wasn't actually illegal in 1964. It wasn't properly criminalised until the Road Safety Act of 1967 - which introduced blood alcohol limits for the first time.
That would have been a perfect day out for those people had it not been for that awful crash. Fun time, beautiful weather, drinks in the sun with your friends. I've had many lovely days like that, but never drove home afterwards ffs.
Yup - John Altman. He was 26-27 when that ad was filmed and was in his early-mid 30s when Eastenders started airing. He's 72 now. The age gap between him and June Brown was credible for her being his "mother".
There used to be one where a man takes his girlfriend clubbing, has a lot to drink and kills his girlfriend in a car crash. Came out in 1976 as it featured a Mark 1 Escort.
There was also that one from the late 1970s (I don't know the exact year but there's a police car with a 1977 reg) with "What shall we do with the drunken driver?". In that clip he didn't hit or kill anyone though, it was just a silent montage of the legal consequences and showed him missing a bus.
+Eric McKinlay Some drink drivers should be banned for life. Some Canadian provinces already do this, but the country's Criminal Code also allows lifetime bans in some cases. In practice, such lifetime bans mean no driving ever again in Canada.
what was effective was the repeated message, every year more shocking. It worked for me...I drink most weekends but I wouldn't dream of driving after I'd had a drink
1:09 1992 Ad i seem to remember seeing that ad when I was very young, it must have been a rerun because I would have been only a few months old at the time.
"No license, no job. Now what!"
"So... what's it gonna be?"
*Gives a glare face at drinker*
*appears at the bottom* THINK! DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE
The last three scared the hell out of me!
2:00 this one gives me chills
The firefighter one was one of the best
I agree about 2:00 society’s attitude to half pints has only really started to change.
@@oscarosullivan4513 I'd kind of expected half pints to be banned just like cigarette ten decks were. Too cheap, too accessible.
That one didn't run for long and people complained about it.

The great Daniel Ryan at 1:53 playing the character who gets to have ALL his dinners with his Mum.
I'd rather die in the crash than have to exist like that.
Nick Cotton at 0:26! Allo Car!

Drinking and driving is exactly like Icarus flying too close to the sun.
Wow the one at 3:09 made me cry. That was sad.
Becky Lucas nah, 1:02 was kind of upsetting.

THINK!, the source of every millennial's nightmares!

Anti-drink driving ads are 50 years old. Which do you think was most effective?
"Come on Dave, just one more..." :-l
Cheaper taxis
If caught drink driving they should be banned from driving for life and their car confiscated and crushed.
