Just to correct, All PS3s can run PS1 disk games natively without any issues. The difference in the backwards compatibility is about PS2 games only.

Some years ago, I had my ps3 recalled by a guy I found on ebay. So far so good. I don't use it all the time though. I have a ps3 slim.

Excelent video. New sub here! I recently picked up a CECHE01 and a ps2 slim from the marketplace and I was able to revive both luckily. Of course I delided cell and the rsx and now the ps3 runs like a charm with its new thermal paste.

Have u ever replaced the thermal paste?

Phat PS3 didn't have cooling issues. The temps it reached are normally safe for a GPU and CPU to handle when gaming. The issue was the faulty GPU that was unable to handle what's normally reasonable temps. The CELL runs much hotter then the RSX and has no issues with heat. The RSX in the slim models fixed that issue.

We know have a hundred percent fix for these backwards compatible ps3s now its called the frankenstien mod basically it replaces the very unreliable gpus inside the backwards compatible ps3s with a slim model ps3 gpu. That is the most future proof method of saving these backwards compatible ps3s. Your console will die no matter what even if you change the thermal paste or delide the chips your only prolonging the inevitable but there will be a day where it does eventually ylod on you. So when it eventually does I would say look into frankenstien moding it so you never have to deal with ylod ever again

Big time, unfortunately all hardware dies one way or another, but I do think the Frank mod extends the lifeline of the PS3. Im looking into eventually getting it modded here soon as well.

hey I had mine done and while it wasn't cheap it's worth it, plus if you out CFW on it too it's honestly like the ultimate ps3

I love mine!! What do you think about Intercooler fans to keep the system cool?

    • @POWERCREEP20

I recently added a 19 blade fan to my ps3, i think its worth it! Cooling I think was one of the biggest issues with this original model

@@POWERCREEP20 Oh nice! Yea keeping it cool is very important. My fan attaches externally to the PS3 and connects to the PS3 power port, but keeps it cool. Hopefully it helps with delaying the red light of death or stopping it.

for sure! Make sure to keep it clean inside, and if you havent done so yet, replace thermal paste on RSX and CPU chips!@@eddiebatter

@@POWERCREEP20 It was basically some notes I had about the console and video. It was quite wordy so I'll try to keep it shorter.
      1. A cool quirk about PS3s with PS2 BC is that the support the network adapter! So you can play private servers on PS2 games.
      2. It was never a thernal issue that caused YLODs. Fan modded Xenon/Zephyr Xbox 360s still dropped like files. It was almost always a defective component that caused the problem (and on both early PS3s and Xbox 360 it was internal GPU failures.)
On a YLOD console, please diagnose Syscon error codes before attempting any repair whatsoever. RipFelix has a good tutorial on getting Syscon logs.
Delids are very helpful to keep any PS3 (especially Fat or older Slim) from running ear blastingly loud like a fighter jet engine, but the lower temperatures don't necessarily increase longevity. Especially since you risk BGA or interposer damage if you don't delid properly.
      3. NEVER DO ERASER/THERMAL PAD MOD ON CPU! Especially if you already delided! There is far too much risk of damaging the CPU, and there are many cases of this happening. I would instead look into clones of the plug Sony officially used, as those exist now. The Sony plug was basically to provide even pressure on the CPU for better thermal conductivity, not to brute forcr more pressure.
      4. On PS2, the I/O processor handled PS1 back compat. On fat PS2s and 70xxx Slims it was a PS1 CPU, but on later PS2 Slims it was a PowerPC chip.
As for PS3, PS1 is entirety software emulated by the CELL reguardless of model.
CECH-C and E models also removed most PS2 hardware (EE, IOP, and RAM) that was on A/B models and only kept the GPU (Graphics Synthesiser). The PS2 game compatability was slightly gimped as a result on these models.
      5. In my opinion, you should jailbreak a PS3 reguardless of model. You get so many benefits by doing so, and you can easily backup essential components like the NAND to make repairs easier.
