      @@MrCOLBSTAH This is mostly untrue. Christmas is celebrated on December 25th for reasons pertaining to Jewish customs; the idea that a holy man will die on the same day he is conceived. Since Jesus died in spring a couple of days past Passover, the Church took that day, then went nine months later, and assumed he would have been born in December. Also, the date and holiday were already well-established by the early 4th century AD, when Christians were very much persecuted by the Roman Empire and killed by the thousands until Emperor Constantine converted to the faith.
      While it is true that Christmas has adapted several pagan customs such as Yule logs and trees which became Christmas trees, this is not unique, nor necessarily a bad thing. This is just a natural result of cultures evolving over time, and can be seen in many other religious holidays, such as the Hindu festival Diwali getting its customs and trappings from older cultural festivals. Also, the church never imposed Martial Law- they were not the ones in charge, after all, and lacked an army to actually impose martial rule even if they wanted to.

This one day of gifts was to make the masters look good. The same purpose today - trying to buy love, but with gifts that people don't need (in much of the West), instead of kind behaviors throughout the year. Also shopping addicts get their dopamine hits by spending more money.

Christmas is a continuation of the Germanic festival of Yule in which the ancient Germanic people celebrated the fact that they had gotten through the coldest part of winter. They would decorate trees and hang holly and mistletoe. The evergreen wreaths we make today are a continuation of the wreaths made thousands of years ago, which represent the sun. What they presented in the video is essentially fake history. True, the earliest Christians didn't celebrate his birth, only his resurrection. But by the year 300, 1700 years ago, some had begun celebrating his birth. I see no reason not to. Should I also not use spaces or lowercase letters, perhaps not use j or u? BECAVSEIVLIVSCAESARDIDNOTVSETHEM. 'Someone else didn't do something' is not an argument. If people had only decided to start celebrating his birthday 20 years ago, I'd do it. Seems perfectly logical to me. Google honors scientists, artists, and various historical figures on their birthdays all of the time. Why shouldn't I?
      Sure, the December 25th date probably isn't accurate. In fact, I think it's probably somewhere within a 30 day period of the 25th. I also don't really care that it isn't the exact date. Records from 2000 years ago are pretty hard to come by. We don't even know the birth years - not days, but years - of multiple Roman emperors. All of that said, based on other information people have made estimates - so the date can be narrowed down to two possible month long periods. Either a month long period during early summer or a month period during early winter. The earliest non-biblical sources that we have, one from the 200s and the other from the 300s, guess that it happened in that winter period. And, well, if you're gonna celebrate a birthday, you gotta pick a single day. There are only 365 days in the year, the fact that they estimated his birth to be near the week long Roman Saturnalia festival is a coincidence, in my opinion. Just like how I have the same birthday as two other students in my high school class of only fifty-six students.

    Later departing from its pagan roots, Yule underwent Christianized reformulation, resulting in the term Christmastide. Many present-day Christmas customs and traditions such as the Yule log, Yule goat, Yule boar, Yule singing, and others stem from pagan Yule traditions. Terms with an etymological equivalent to Yule are still used in Nordic countries and Estonia to describe Christmas and other festivals occurring during the winter holiday season.

      _"Jesus was not born on December 25, though some believe He may have been conceived then. Mary gave birth nine months later during the Feast of Tabernacles (September). As ’mas’ indicates, this Christian celebration (which Christ never told us to keep) was an invention of Pope Gregory in an attempt to wean British converts from their mid-winter orgy. It marks the ’rebirth’ of the sun after the shortest day, a pagan fertility cult festival whose remnants are still very much with us today covered over with commercial consumerism. In this video David starts with the traditions that make up ’Christmas’ today, how the Church has tried and failed to keep Christmas Christian, and finishes by correcting common Christian inaccuracies that have been perpetuated through our carols and children’s teachings - ’’what the Bible actually says about the birth of Christ’’."_

      You are correct: To begin with, the word "Christmas" is nowhere mentioned in the Bible. Furthermore, there is no biblical evidence that any of the original apostles ever observed what we know as Christmas. In fact, historians and biblical scholars have clearly demonstrated that Christmas was never observed by the early New Testament Church.
      What's more, we observe the wrong day. Jesus was born nowhere near December 25th. This is best illustrated by a well-known Christmas carol, The First Noel. The words, you probably remember, go like this: "The first Noel, the angel did say, was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay. In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, on a cold winter's night that was so deep."
      The song is beautiful, but the words do not make sense and are contradictory. What shepherd in his right mind is going to keep his sheep out in the open on a freezing "winter's night"?
      True enough, the New Testament says there were "... shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night" (Luke 2:8). But it is a historical fact that shepherds in Judaea brought in their flocks from the fields when autumn commenced (September-October), and sent them back at the beginning of spring (March-April). There is no way Christ could have been born on December 25th

    Christmas started before christ; Saturnalia for Romans and Greeks, the celebration of winter solstice for other indo-european groups(Celts, Germans, Slavs, etc), in general it was a celebration of harvest and preparation for winter, christianity just rebranded and adopted these traditions to fit they're own narrative, even historians would tell you today that Jesus was born probably around March. That's why Christmas is more of a cultural phenomenom than a religious one.

    That was a nice video, although it didn't mention everything. There were some stuff that you forgot to mention, like that Christmas hasn't always been celebrated in December and some Christmas traditions were taken from the pagan traditions of the Yuletide. Christmas was moved to December by the Catholics in about AD 300 to coincide with the winter solstice and take over some pagan holidays of the time and attracted more pagans to convert to Christianity. Jesus probably wasn't born in December, but was probably born in September; but yes it is his birth that separates the calendar. So yea, this video is not completely accurate, but that's ok for a 5:40 minute video. Merry Xmas.

    Do you know why Christmas is celebrated on December 24/25? In reality we don't know what date Jesus was born, and there's even discussion on which year it happened (between 4 BC to 6 AD), or if he existed at all, since the proof of his existence is pretty weak. The real reason we celebrate on December 24/25 (depending on which country) is because European pagans had a celebration on the Winter Solstice on December 21, and so The Catholic Church chose the date we all know in a strategic way to convert pagans. This shows how Christianity have been affected and influenced by other beliefs throughout history.
    Speaking of Norway, in Scandinavia Christmas is called 'Jul', after the Norse pagan celebration 'Jólablót'. Another example of how old pagan traditions still affects us. We might have change the reason for a celebration, but the name still remains. And 'Jul' is one of the most inclusive names, because if you say "I celebrate Jul", it doesn't automatically translates to "I celebrate the birth of Jesus".

    • @redblaze8700
      @redblaze8700 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabe Norman Well hello creotard! Fancy meeting you here.
      And yes, the Jesus story is most likely a myth. The various stories about him were written decades after he supposedly died by biased Christians who were eager to promote their new religion. And they copied from other mythological stories. Jesus have many similarities with older pagan heroes, like Heracles, Mithra and Horus. Hell, the story of children being slaughtered is a copy of the birth story of Moses.
      The only secular proofs for Jesus’s existence are short passages written by the historians Tacitus and Josephus, but they lived after Jesus, and didn’t give any source for their information.
      And even if you’re using the Gospels as evidence, there are contradicts to what miracles Jesus preformed, when he died, who discovered the empty tomb, and even on his birth story. According to Matthew Jesus was born when Herod was king, and that Herod was the one who tried to kill Jesus and slaughtered every babies in the land. The real Herod died in the year 4 BC, and there are no historic records a mass murder of babies at the time, something that wouldn’t go unnoticed by historians.
      Luke on the other hand claims that Jesus was born during a universal census that was ordered by the Roman emperor Augustus, and was conducted when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. Augustus never ordered a census across the empire. And while Cyrenius did conduct a local census, that occurred in the year 6 AD. You see, with such contradictions it is no wonder why many start to doubt whether or not Jesus really existed.
      And have you ever wondered why the Jew don’t consider Jesus as the Messiah? It’s because he doesn’t fulfill the requirements the Messiah must have accomplished.
      What’s most likely is that a man named Jesus existed, but was just a great Rabbi or morality teacher who was executed for blasphemy or for speaking out against the Romans, and who gained cult status after his death. Even amongst early Christians there were disagreements on whether or not he was the son of God. If he were here today, he wouldn’t even recognize himself with the way he is viewed by those who claims to be his followers.

    • @redblaze8700
      @redblaze8700 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gabe Norman
      If you don't know that George Washington existed, then you are dumber than you realize. XD
      And no, that's not how it works. Not only do you lack understanding of the scientific method, but also how historical events ar being researched. We don't know if the Jesus from the Bible truly existed, because like I've mentioned, there's no evidence from the time he supposedly lived. Most writings about hime were written decades, even centuries after his supposed death, and there's no physical depiction of him before some time around 500 AD.
      We know that people like Alexander the Great and Julius Cesar existed both because there are writing about them by both their friends and enemies and physical depictions of them from the time they lived, and because their actions have great impacts on the known world. The same can not be said about Jesus. The biggest impacts of Christianity were thanks to apostles like Paul.

    12/25 is Biblically documented as the *conception* date of Jesus Christ, if one understands that 'the course of abia' in Luke 1 KJV is a set time of the year, 1 Chronicle 24:10 KJV, (abia is Greek and Abijah is Hebrew of the same word). It takes a bit of study and calculating the journeys of John The Baptist's father and knowing that John The Baptist is 6 months older than Jesus. Luke 1:36 KJV _And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren._ The virgin conception has a higher symbolic meaning of a newly repentant person 'conceiving' God's Word within themselves. The etymology of 'betrothed' is Be Truthed.

    Christmas came from the pagan celebration called saturnalia. Child sacrifices was replaced by gift giving And thats the horrible truth.

      @Ride the Wave i see, you misunderstood my comment. What i mean horrible is, saturnalia are tradition of child sacrifice.
      I'm not a leftist anyway. So chill

      Look at this guy,, who doesn't actually know what paganism is, stuck in the medieval belief that anyone who doesn't worship their god MUST be sacrificing children! Look at what you read, my man, what kinda sane person would sacrifice babies? Definitely not a pagan, I can tell you that much. You *do* know pagans worship *NATURE*, right? What's nature gonna do with a buncha pubescents? Honestly, my man, there ain't no way I take you seriously with this bull.

      @Ride the Wave To be fair, my comment was directed at the original commenter, not you. I might argue that abortion would be a better fate than suffering at the hands of an unfit parent. I don't quite see what everyone's problem is. Either way, it doesn't have much of anything to do with pagan traditions, as I'm actually studying these religions to see myself to new worship and find nothing but good vibes in the worlds of Wicca and paganism. Not a single hint of sacrifices or anything. (haven't found anything to do yet, so I remain unaffiliated)

      @Ride the Wave Well thanks for being cool about it, my man. I do totally respect how you feel and all, and that is an interesting way to look at it. I just personally don't look at it the same way, if I were to look at it at all. Arguments about morality and politics honestly hurt my brain.
      Welp, I've pretty much finished my mockery and discussion, if you ever wanna have some kind of a civil argument in the future, feel free to hit me up! I'm gonna go watch some videos instead of typing comments now. Have a nice day, my dude!

    Jesus was actually born in 4BC, Jesus could not of been born in Christmas since he was born when land could be farmed, Christmas was originally a Roman pagan holiday to honor the God Saturn were people got drunk and even had gay sex. The way we got many Christmas traditions were from the Germanic people celebrating it and the Romans taking the tradition after they were converted the Catholics

    'Santa Claus' is Dutch for Saint (St.) Nicolas???? Where did you get that silly idea from? In Dutch it's Sint Nicolaas or Sinterklaas for short... And Santa Claus is called Kerstman which translates into Christmas man, and in Germany they call it Weihnachtsmann which also translates into Christmas Man as Weihnachten means Christmas in German.
    So FYI I'd edit that mistake out at 4:16/4:17....

      No he is right, the name and gift giving was taken from this sinterklaas festival/holiday but after the americans used it for christmas it found its way back to the dutch as kerstman. So the dutch have both in december.

    • @BasBastiaansen
      @BasBastiaansen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      De kerstman is gebaseerd op sint nicolaas, die wij ook wel sinterklaas noemen. De amerikanen hebben dit overgenomen, alleen schrijf je het als santa claus, maar de uitspraak is hetzelfde.

    For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O Lord ; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee. But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities. Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men. But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.

      That is good food for thought! I also like Isaiah 1, but will focus on 10-20. This is just something to consider, no condemnation here, that is above my pay grade! ;-)
      10 Hear the word of יהוה, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our Elohim, ye people of Gomorrah.
      11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith יהוה: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
      12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?
      13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and Sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
      14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.
      15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
      16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
      17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
      18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith יהוה: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
      19 *u If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
      20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of יהוה hath spoken it.

    Way to overlook the entire Norse/Germanic/Pagan roots of the holiday. Which explain most of the celebrations and names the holiday has to this day.
