This is probably my favourite channel on TH-cam, and honestly, the lack of sponsored content is a big part of that. Ad reads turn talented creators into shills for absolute shite products and services. It’s very late night steak knife infomercial.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I appreciate your comment about wishing there was a TH-cam when we were kids. I have been playing the guitar by ear since 1959. Can't read a note of music. These days I just enjoy jamming with who ever will let a 75 year old into the room. The young musicians are amazing and blow me away. Thank you for keeping it real, the interviews, and including us old guys. I'll keep playing as long as I can make a decent sound on the guitar. After that I will keep listening. If I loose my hearing and there isn't music playing there will be a song playing in my head. Keep up the good work.
I don’t have a musical bone in my body but I love music and I love your videos. Always original & unscripted. I love the stories behind the songs, the albums and the creative processes involved. Hopefully in the future you’ll have something about the new Linkin Park or Jack White. Keep up the fantastic content!
You may not have a musical "bone" in your body as you have stated, willmoore, but as long as you love music and everything else you have mentioned in your comment that you love relating to music, you still have it in your "Heart and Soul." "Keep on Rockin' in The Free World..."
Without the Listeners and Lovers of Music, we Musicians would have no reason to exist! You keep on loving it, and we'll keep on putting it out. God Bless!
The thing I love about your interviews is that they're essentially archival. These musicians won't be with us forever, but your interviews with them will be.
I like watching you because you have an appreciation for all kinds of music. I love rock ‘n roll, as well as opera and Scottish and Irish music. The utube segments you’ve done on renaissance lute music was wonderful. My 53 year old son is also a fan of yours.
Rick - THANK YOU for staying independent. What you're doing here is creating a treasure trove of interviews and commentary. Your interviews should be in the Library of Congress, and will be watched by people for decades and decades. Keep on keepin' on!
Hey Rick. Love your work! Maybe you could produce a few videos that dive into the practical, day-to-day financial aspects of being a working musician. I suspect that a lot of your viewers are on the way up and trying to make it as full time musicians. Random ideas - How much can an average musician realistically make on the road, and how do you break down those earnings? What are the typical expenses while touring? Who covers what, like travel, lodging, and meals? How do you find and negotiate paying gigs, whether locally or on tour? How much can you expect to make in the studio, either as a session musician or recording your own music? What about balancing live performances with studio work? How do musicians navigate those different revenue streams? How does streaming income fit into the picture for independent artists? How much can you make? What role does licensing, royalties, and sync deals play in a working musician’s income? I think these topics would resonate with a lot of your audience who are trying to figure out how to make a sustainable living from their passion. Thanks for all the great content!
This is the only music channel on YT that has ever profiled the great 1978 Gino Vannelli album Brother To Brother and the amazing work of guitarist, Carlos Rios. Thank you Rick. 😇
Enjoy all of your content and find the interviews to be some of my favorites. I especially enjoyed the Seal, Thomas Newman, Tony Levin, Mike Mills, Lee Sklar,, Michael McDonald, Brendon O'Brien, Michael Omartian, Sting, Jimmy Webb, Daniel Lanois, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, and Ted Gioia interviews; The list goes on and I still have many I haven't listened to yet. There really isn't anyone doing these types of long-format interviews. Your ability to converse with them as a fellow musician and music educator makes them so good. Keep up the good work!
I just posted a comment on Gilmour's web site asking if he would consider doing an interview with Rick. I mentioned a few of the interviews Rick has done with other musicians so if he was to check them out he would see the quality and respect Rick has for music, the musicians, and people responsible for the songs and albums we all love. Not saying anything will come of it but it never hurts for us Beato's to try reaching out to the people we would like to see Rick interview.
I'm proud of you, Rick! I had opportunities show up... with strings attached... and Iturned them all down. I've had numerous people tell me, "You could've been a star". To which I reply, "No, I would have been a puppet!". They don't understand. Again, I'm proud of you! Your work is GREAT, and it's YOUR work. Keep on keepin' on!
Man oh ma, I'm just getting my SSA. I want get back in the game in my head. I can't gig anymore but still love the language of music. Keep on keepn on.
Your dedication to preserving the quality of interviews and staying independent is truly inspiring! The effort you put into creating these valuable insights for the music community is priceless. Thank you for all you do!
🤔Rick is the voice of the "Artist" in a time and place where the Artists have either lost their voice , had their voice stolen, or other wise have been told they have No voice or not even to use it 😅. 🙏💖✌️😌..
We love you, Rick! Independent is the way to go, a LOT of work and lots to learn, creating music, learning new DAWs, using Spotify, marketing, promoting, all the different social media and how they work, creating videos, photography, prepping gigs, …even building our on studio these last couple years!! Phew! 😅 …but what we’ve learned and how much stronger we are together and ready for the tours! When I’m networking and chatting to band buddies, I ALWAYS bring up you and your videos! When I’m cooking, I’m ALWAYS listening to you and watching your interviews, it’s a way of life for me now, love it! Thank you! 🙏🏻💕
I've learned so much from watching your videos, I learn something from everything, whether it's an interview of someone, or a "what makes this song great" video, and all the videos where you address technology and the direction of the music business, it's all been so educational and a lot of fun!
Watching the debate last night and seeing the CBS ladies mute the potential VPs got me thinking about something I heard you say about interviews being able to go as long as you like and not having to worry about time limits or producers getting mad for one reason or another. Wouldn't it be really great if our top Gov Official candidates did their debates similarly on a TH-cam channel that didn't have any ties with a media outlet, which are always slanted one way or another. I know you are all about music, which I appreciate. I didn't have a better place to vent this thought and since the idea was born from your comments I figured I'd post it here. A guy can dream. Just imagine if Rick Beato was also a political debate moderator! I can see you now, nodding your head and smiling with a one word response when a candidate is done..."Right!"
Thank you Rick for all your great interviews! I think you get insights from all the great people you interview in a very unique and valuable way, that make the series such a fantastic resource!
I wish I could have had access to your super channel when I was younger Rick... I am 76 now and played guitar on stage since 16 but now I am physically unable to play anymore... Your Beato bundle could have taken me to the next level all those years ago... Keep up the great work...
Your passion for all things related to music are both inspirational and overwhelming to me. Gratitude does not even begin to express what I have for all of your hard work. You reveal all the artists I've revered as music "gods" as being quite human, but also show, perhaps unintentionally, the drive and passion it takes to really create art. To me, your art lies within the megabites of all your fascinating videos. Thank you so much from an old guy bass player who loves all things musical.
You should interview Lyndsey Buckingham. He's such a unique guitarist. His work on Tusk is so underrated. The timing of some of those songs is mind blowing.
This is one of the best channels on TH-cam, Rick. Your content is smart and inspirational and educational and entertaining. Please keep doing what you’re doing, and how you’re doing it. All the best from this big fan in Dallas, TX!

Your kind of integrity is very rare these days. It would be super easy to get sponsors for your channel but, yes, with money come certain expectations and lack of control. Congratulations.
Seeing interviews of musicians BY a musician is exactly why your channel works so well, Rick. Your preparation for asking the right questions and letting the interviewee answer in full demonstrates respect, which gets the most from your guests. Big respect for remaining independent and not bowing to the pressure of corporate offers, which I'm sure could be financially tempting. Corporations are generally parasitic by nature, sucking the very life out of creativity. Best avoided in my humble opinion. I'm a reasonably decent professional photographer, but will walk away from any band management who want me to sign any rights or editorial decisions over to them. My guitar playing could really use some assistance from your 'Beato Bundle' which I must rectify ASAP !! 😃
Thank-you, Rick! I feel very lucky to have seen yesterday's Tory Amos interview. It's sad to have them blocked, especially for your time and expense! ❤ I understand your thinking, and I respect your independence and integrity!
Keep fighting the fight! Appreciate everything you do Finally ordered your platinum bundle Thanks, and cheers from Canada ..Looking forward to the Tori interview..
I am so glad you have stayed independent. I might not always agree with your views but I always know that they are unencumbered and that I can really respect and is part of why I keep coming back. Even if I don't agree, it's always honest, heart felt and thought provoking.
You are so right, Rick! The main reason I LOVE reggae musics Barrington Levy is mostly for his super cool unique style. Also because years ago when he came on the scene the industry people all told him he’ll be rich and famous BUT he must play here and sing that and do this and do that. Barrington told them to GO POUND SAND! He faded away but now he’s back and more popular than ever! He retained his independence AND his identity.
Come on Rick ...your interviews are priceless...they display something not covered by theory .. .drive , ambition and attitude.. Each one gives us an insight into what makes each artist tick... You are creating an incredible legacy , that will be appreciated by musicians for generations...❤
As a total "ear" musician, your videos have helped me tremendously to understand what works and why. Thank you for not selling your soul. There are some who believe that sponsorships are poison to creativity. Don't drink the Kool-Aid.
You are my music theory teacher! I took a semester in high school, but that was 1968. I bought your theory course and refer to it all the time. I’m eating it up. The way it is written, the accompanying videos is easy to understand and quite different than trying to wade through the textbook style stuff. I payed full price and it’s worth every cent. I appreciate that if you had outside sponsors it may detract or dilute your outstanding show. So maybe if you learn to take advantage of interpolation you would have less blocked stuff. I’m sure there may be reasons for entities to block things, but they should make an exception for you because you’re only helping these artists you interview. Keep it up, best channel on TH-cam.
I don`t know if I would even watch You Tube without Rick`s channel. Great stuff Rick, I look for your newest video`s and my notification bell reminds me whenever you drop a new vid. Cheers my musical brother, Rick Beato !!!
I’m a small music channel but I clearly state I don’t want any paid sponsorships, I don’t dislike channels that use them but I respect the ones that don’t more…such as this one. Rick mad respect, stay independent and keep doing things the way you do. Your ability to know WHAT to ask to the right people is an underrated skill and you’re great asking the proper questions for the audience. Great discussion! Really excited for Rick and Tori interviews.
I have certainly watched since the whiteboard days and took notes. I have recommended many of your videos to musician friends who range across all ages. Including friends ranging from heads of music departments at Universities, Principal Fellows of conservatories, performing arts tertiary institutions, and musicians at all levels. Why? Because of the quality of information and being applicable to given subjects. All the feedback I get from these people is always positive. Just had to mention this to reinforce how wide an audience you have and how you are respected. The archive you are building will survive and give insights to many future generations.
I can’t wait to see the Tori & RR interviews! 😍 It was a wise move to avoid sponsorship & avoid bending to advertisers demands. Full creative control over monetary gain. 👏🏻
I'm glad you stay independent and I love this channel because of it! It's always real and interesting. I always learn something every time even if it's just something else about you. Thank you, Rick... Your knowledge and experience are a gift to us all.
It's just so inspiring Rick to see how far you've come with this. And it all stems from your knowledge about the artists. I am 100% sure most of them are glad to be asked questions from someone whom knows their work well. Most often I bet that never happens for them. I think you found your true vocation here Rick. Might have been a lifetime in the making, but I think all of your life experiences have brought you to this point. It's very inspiring to see how someone can reach a great place by simply following what they love.
4.5 million subs says your approach is the best. Long may you grow and expand, independently all the way. I may have to buy a bundle soon. Whilst watching this I've had more than 8 ads show up, now I'm not sure how much of that revenue you'd get from YT.
Rick. Chris here from Toronto Canada. Love your channel. Bass player from a small band here called Clarknova. All stuff on TH-cam. Anyways, hope all is well and be safe out there. Love ya large.....
Rick, I'm not sure that you'll be able to read this comment. But I am a trained musician (a pianist) and I have learned so much from you just by watching your videos. Thank you.
I think the most important thing you bring to your interviews is your willingness to shut up and let the person talk. It's a skill that a lot of interviewers today could really benefit from learning. I have to admit that many of the people you interview I don't know because in most cases I was not a fan of their bands or styles of music but I still appreciate the information that's being conveyed. You don't necessarily have to be moved by someone's music to be able to appreciate their skill and expertise in the demonstration of their art form. Of course there are always lots of great stories as well.
Much appreciation for all of your videos from Switzerland!!! Looking forward to the Rubin interview... hoping against hope there's some cool info/anecdotes in regards to Slayer ;)
Never noticed the haircuts until you said something. Kinda cracks me up, but I understand… I step back from something when I’m working… and life gets in the way.
This is probably my favourite channel on TH-cam, and honestly, the lack of sponsored content is a big part of that.

Sounds just like me I'm 67 and I still love my Texas blues rock. I just enjoy playing with musicians. It's been the greatest
Joy of my life.

This! (not Linkin Park and Jack White but...) 😎👌
Same!
A honest and real man giving honest and real interviews and talks on real world subjects. Real world Rick.
“Once you take money from someone you take away your independence “. Truer words have never been spoken!! Rick for president!!! 😅 love this channel
The thing I love about your interviews is that they're essentially archival. These musicians won't be with us forever, but your interviews with them will be.
Congrats on the 4.5 million! We need more What Makes This Song Great stuff....
I think that ship has sailed, he may from time to time do one that interests him if he has time..

@@mattbasford6299 Dave

I've been listening to Tori Amos since she released Little Earthquakes so I really look forward to that interview.
been following you since 2017 and has been a great journey! Thank you for everything you do❤

You are creating an incredible legacy , that will be appreciated by musicians for generations...❤
As a total "ear" musician, your videos have helped me tremendously to understand what works and why.
Thank you for not selling your soul.
There are some who believe that sponsorships are poison to creativity.
Don't drink the Kool-Aid.
you're the best music interviewer today. thank you for engaging the artists and the stories behind their art.
Keep on keeping on Rick. Your legacy is here and being passed around to the future. Thx for sharing yourself and all your knowledge 🙏.
Thank you for keeping reel. The younger generation needs to experience what you’ and only you can provide!. Love it!!!
You are my music theory teacher! I took a semester in high school, but that was 1968. I bought your theory course and refer to it all the time. I’m eating it up. Subscriber since 10/2016. Your content is incomparable. You not selling out to sponsors also sets you apart from most. Keep on keeping on, brother! ❤
Love you and your posts, interviews, information. Thank you for all your efforts.
Mr Beato,
Thanks for all the great interviews.
Greetings from Belgium.
I don`t know if I would even watch You Tube without Rick`s channel. Great stuff Rick, I look for your newest video`s and my notification bell reminds me whenever you drop a new vid. Cheers my musical brother, Rick Beato !!!
I absolutely agree with you Rick. It's the best thing to be independent. You are a wise person!

Mr Beato, you are the best video for introducing music to be and explaining the music at the moment.
Independent seems to be working out for you! Never change!

I can’t wait to see the Tori & RR interviews! 😍 It was a wise move to avoid sponsorship & avoid bending to advertisers demands. Full creative control over monetary gain. 👏🏻
That explains why my long video views are suddenly down about 50%. Rick's interviews are the best. Keep going despite the problems with TH-cam!
Happily bought your course bundle. Keep up the awesome content!
I appreciate you Rick. As I struggle to put some sounds together I can find some insight and inspiration here
You Rock!
We are with you the whole way.
I'm glad you stay independent and I love this channel because of it! It's always real and interesting. I always learn something every time even if it's just something else about you. Thank you, Rick... Your knowledge and experience are a gift to us all.

Love ya Rick!👍 Love your enthusiasm for what you do!

Congats on the 4.5 million ! I remember you back in the day.
Independence and integrity. Rare things in this day and age. Respect!
Enjoy your videos immensely! I wish that I had discovered them earlier. Keep up the great and entertaining work.
I'm proud to proclaim you as an honorary Atlantan.Thank-you for all you do.
Don’t change a thing Rick, you’re an inspiration.
4.5 million subs says your approach is the best. Long may you grow and expand, independently all the way. I may have to buy a bundle soon. Whilst watching this I've had more than 8 ads show up, now I'm not sure how much of that revenue you'd get from YT.
Rick v Rick: The Final Showdown (of Ricks).
It's literally in the Bible. Towards the back.
I sub’d. Excellent audio quality for your videos, thank you & the team. And the interviews are awesome!

Rick, I'm not sure that you'll be able to read this comment. But I am a trained musician (a pianist) and I have learned so much from you just by watching your videos. Thank you.
🎧Your channel is Music Appreciation for me!🎼🎶🎵I got the bundle hoping in the future to experiment with sound and lyrics!🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much Rick. Greetings from Belgium.
Rick, we appreciate it.
This is the single greatest online music magazine available ever.
Congrats on hitting that 4.5M Milestone! Not surprised. See you when you hit 10M!
Great, relevant post. Spot on!
Stay your own boss, Rick. Don't compromise on your vision, your voice.
Appreciate what you do brother keep it up
Greetings from Chile, saludos.
