Fun fact about that explosion - it WAS too close lmao. It was a bigger and fiercer explosion than the the crew expected, but the Twin's actors still kept in character like badasses. 10/10 for dedication on their part.
Didn't they have camera angles that made it look closer than it was though?

In the beginning, the statue that the twins placed the Heisenberg picture was Santa Muerte which means "Saint of Death" or "Holy Lady of Death". It's a deity that many Hispanics practice even today. The twins placed the picture to pray for them to succeed in killing Walt.
Hank also mentions this in the episode where he first goes to work in El Paso.

Walt's speech in the gymnasium is one of my favorite scenes in the entire show. You can tell Walt's been thinking about the air crash a LOT in the preceding days and weeks.

Walt’s speech was basically his pathetic attempt to assuage his own guilt that he feels for causing Jane to die, thereby leading to this series of consequences

@@magiccookies420 In a sense, it’s like all these tragic things happen to Jesse as punishment for his crimes of being a drug dealer in place of conventional punishment with jailtime. Eventually, with enough punishment on Jesse, it’s like he’s finally served his sentence and can go free at the end of El Camino.

I love that Bryan Cranston got another directorial credit for this episode. He got to direct the badass twins *and* had to direct himself giving the most awkward speech in the history of ever.
Fun fact: The first girl who speaks at the high school is actually Bryan Cranston’s daughter(you didn’t show her in this video)

The pb&j is somewhat of a callback to the guy Walt killed in s1.
Especially when he cuts the crust off the sandwich as well, just like the guy requested in the episode.
So the eye is classically seen as Walter's guilt. If you think about it in terms of the character: he couldn't let himself burn the money so he had to put the guilt somewhere. Now it's frozen, in plastic.
I totally want to see the two of you doing the slow walk away from an explosion.

That was likely in the beginning the Santa Muerte ( Saint of Death ), which you guys know by now, cartel members especially like to worship.
In Mexico City, the main church (Basilica de Guadalupe) is visited by several pilgrimage groups a day of hundreds of people, millions of them a year. The main avenue leading up to the Church complex (several buildings and churches) has a median strip several meters wide lined with benches, trees, pretty planters and flowers for the pilgrimages to travel through. My grandma had a business site on the avenue, and as a child I saw sooo many kinds of festive, varying, different groups traveling to the Church from all over. What I will never forget though, are the very few people that would travel that path to the steps of the church, on their knees, perhaps aided by a relative or two putting mats or carpets on the floor before them, on their knees for at LEAST a couple of miles, likely more, a sacrifice for the miracle they hoped to receive for who knows what ill in their lives.
So you met the twins. They're certainly an interesting duo and they're going to play a huge role this season. That opening scene showed the twins prostrating themselves before Santa Muerta who is the Spanish saint of death.
Neither Walt or Jesse is in a good place this season. Walt is dealing with Skyler wanting him gone and not being sure as to whether he should still be a drug dealer. While Jesse is just a mess coming down from drugs and coping with Jane's death. This season gets wild though.
In reality THAT WAS WHAT happened. The crew didn't expect it to be this big, but the twins just continued as nothing happened.

It's a very Mexican Catholic thing to do, pray to La Virgen or some other Saint, in this case a very dead looking Saint, but to show you mean it, you do something like walk on your knees to the shrine, or in this case, crawl.

About the eye: i think it essentially symbolises Walters gnawing guilt. He keeps it around as a memory of the planecrash to punish himself. Its also used in a scene of season 4. Im not gonna spoil it though.
It's not a punishment for him. It's his token. Walt likes the person he's become. That's why he adopts the quirks of the people he kills. They're his trophies.
I feel like you are forgetting that he could just have taken millions from Elliot and Gretchen, which they offered. Kinda kills the "I had to do this for the family" argument and Skyler would probably not buy that :P
I dunno, it probably wouldn't be super easy to take the money from the folks who fucked you out of a millionare life and have made themselves millionares from your work. I don't care what anyone says, a certain amount of pride would be present in this. Especially in Walt's case.

His cancer would've had the best medical care if he was still with them and he wouldn't be so damn prideful. The dude has been molded by what happened to him, and no matter what he became, I will always love Walter White.

I have all seasons on Blu-ray and I watched and listened to the commentary of this particular episode, directed by Bryan Cranston. That last scene where the brothers are walking away looks like they were too close but they were really a great safe distance apart. Good reaction vid.
