She talked about the meaning of the song in the Apple interview. She immagined herself in a cabin, during a winter storm that signifies her anxieties. And she's standing on the balcony, unable to react to this cold. The drivers of this anxiety and pain are mainly 3: july (the pain of being canceled during the kanye drama), November (the 2020 US elections) and December (even after the kanye drama was settled and the election won, she still felt disconnected because of the pandemic. Everything was still uncertain). So then Bon Iver's part is supposed to signify her anxiety chaotically speaking in her mind. Mainly the desire to escape and feel safe and calm for just a minute. And then finally she feels like there's hope. And she returns to the warm cabin room, leaving the cold balcony and her anxieties behind. It's such a wonderfully written "pandemic song", that without actually saying it, makes you FEEL the disconnect and uncertainty about the future. And the hopefull ending just closes this album perfectly. Loved your reaction to this whole album.
The last chorus of this song is literally the last scene of Willow MV!! "I was catching my breathe, floors of the cabin creaking under my step and I couldn't be sure, I had a feeling so peculiar this pain wouldn't be for evermore" It is literally the scene from the Willow MV where Taylor is coming out of the piano catching her breath and the floors of the cabin that she came back to was creaking under her step and when she saw her, she couldn't be sure at first.. but when she finally held his hand, she knew that this pain wouldn't be for evermore!
Even the beginning of the song reminds me of willow. The forest from willow's mv is the same as cardigan's and she sings, "I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone, trying to find the one where I went wrong". In the willow mv, she traces her steps back and finally ends up existing in a space where she's able to find her happiness. She reaches her cabin safely the second time because she knew which way to go after making mistakes in the cardigan mv. Taylor is a genius!
That's Bon Iver's actual tone.He sings in this range. Exile was one off where he sang in different tone😊 Great reaction guys!! And please react to two deluxe tracks of this album🤞🏼
When you said that Taylor's songs can be interpreted in many ways, i thought that maybe that is the reason why people say her songs are relatable. I mean imagine how many ways people live or what circumstances we've been through yet we relate to the same song. Edit: this is one of your best reactions. Happy new year!
@@areyoureadyforit2508 yep. It’s why things like Star Wars, game of thrones, etc, are so popular. The stories are ridiculously specific, but touch on incredibly universal themes.
Her music you can interpret in so many ways yet the lyrics aren’t shallow or generic to fit the meaning. They’re deep but somehow we can all connect! What an artist
Yeah! Some people think the song should be deep to the point that you can't even understand it for it to be considered as "great music". This woman has mastered how to balance this and I think that's hard to do even for an experienced artist. She's brilliannt.
When she says "catching my death" I feel like she meant she was feeling hopeless about the future lost in uncertain times. She said it in an interview that she wrote this song before the elections so it could have this extra meaning besides the pandemic as well 🥺
Catching my breath is what you do after making an effort (like running) so for me this means she took a moment for introspection, for self analysis. Catching my death is an expression when you expose yourself to something that harms you, like going outside in the winter without a coat - here it would have a double meaning of the winter scene but also maybe choices in her past that ended up hurting her. But I love your interpretation as well. Seeing you both smile to certain portions of the song and lyrics just gives me such joy. Happy New Year! I appreciate you guys, please keep the Taylor content coming! 🎉
Always love your interpretations... it’s good to see other perspectives. It’s like when she was doing the studio sessions and spoke on “this is me trying” and how she interpreted it vs how Aaron interpreted it as being about someone with profound issues and asking their partner to hear them out and be there for them. Often times it’s so isolating and limiting to hear her perspective alone on her music but when others voice what it could mean or what it meant to them... that to me is when I can see it through my own eyes and my own life so thanks for that.
such a great song and as always such great interpretations and analysis from you both!!! This is definitely one of my favourite song of this album and I relate it very deeply to this covid year, so it also give me a bit of hope, every time I listen to it, for what will come next. Can't wait for more TS reactions from you, there are so many great song in my opinion that you will like to discover.. I will suggest you the songs "Ronan" and "Safe & Sound" (another two that I love I saw has been suggested before by others so I feel like you have already a good list of Taylor songs to dive in in the future) and last but not least... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Hope this 2021 will bring you only amazing things :-)
Happy New Year B&B! I'm fortunate to have stumbled upon your channel during 2020 & I appreciate all your work. Although it's sad the evermore reactions are over, I'm excited for your content & break downs in 2021! Also Bon Iver shocked me too 😂 Love y'all
I love love love your reactions and am so happy you finished and enjoyed this album!! You should go back and react to lover, reputation, 1989, red, speak now, fearless and Taylor swift (her 1st album) 🙌🏻 I can’t wait to see your next reactions Taylor swift or not and happy new year to you both!!
There are dozens of "reactions" to this song on TH-cam, but this is one of the better ones because you two are not all caught up in yourselves. Rather than the over-emoting of many of the reactors, you are both considerate and thoughtful, probing for possible meanings. I would call your response honest, rather than the show-boating drivel you see on so many channels. Well done.
I love your discussion at the end. Audio Art and visual without the visuals. I never thought about her songs in this way but you're right. There are so many ways to interpret her songs. Even the songs about her life help people dealing with their problems because they take something different from the song than Taylor. It amazes me every time. This was a great reaction. I really like the song too. It's a great ending for the album.
That's the genius of these songs on these two albums. Taylor said before people can interpret these songs However you want because they are not only about her. Just Genius.
Catching my death is a common phrase i always heard growing up more like "youll catch your death outside without a coat" shes saying it was metaphorically a cold place
thank you for this. it's always fun listening to your discussions. this song really has so many meanings; I interpreted differently from both of you too
i'm brazilian and i found you both searching taylor's reacts. i come here always i'm sad, i feel good for a moment, thank you for that. (my english is very bad)
think this is reflecting back on the beginning of her relationship with Joe in 2016. The fallout in July with the sankes etc. then in November she asks Joe to run away with her. She was really down between July to November and she was starting a new life

That's Bon Iver's (Justin Vernon's) usual sound in their discography.
Love it!

The best song to finish the year.💜, "This felling would'nt be evermore"
Fun fact her boyfriend joe co wrote and he plays the piano in this song
Joe does an amazing job on this song!
William Bowery😒
yup yup he wrote the piano. taylor based the vocal melody off of the piano but was the one who wrote the lyrics

When she said this pain wouldn’t be evermore. I believed it.it just gave me hope.
The piano player is joe alwyn, her boyfriend. I really like that they have the same interests and love for art that they work together so well!
I love how she said starting in the song 'this pain would be forevermore' and ends with 'this pain wouldn't be forevermore'
