Hey sam pham I would like to know how to stop the hop step cheese. People hop step into the lane with lebron and pump fake until my defense goes stupid then dish to the big man or hit the open market 3 pt shooter. Playing deny on shooters hasnt worked.
Sometimes you have to switch off to the man that's helping off ball. Setting deny on shooters does not guarantee they will stay with their man. When LeBron drives, check him and then switch off to your wing defenders to cover the 3 point play
Do you have any unedited full game footage? If not you should stream your games so players like me can learn how to flow into plays, defense and know how to react if the play fails.
those tiny green contests are also effected by whether or not the shooter has a gold deadeye badge. increases the shooters chances of making that slightly late contests.
Man, I'm just starting with NBA2k21, started playing some online games with MT, happy that I have won my first ones :). But really get frustrated when I play against people that the only thing they do is shoot 3 pointers and they don't miss. They are BAD players since I can easily score 2 pointers (and I'm a noob), but I just don't know how to stop the 3 pointers, I feel the game is broken, but hopefully, your tutorial will help me. nope, 2k penalizes for using those you get less shot contest ratings. Only manual will allow you to contest and veer off, that's what you need. Manual contest is a necessary skill to play at an elite level for 2K :)

Takes away competitive advantage of someone who uses auto over someone using mana. The manual guy is rewarded. This is proven I have a buddy that only autos and I only manual I do wayyyyy better than he does one similar shot contests.

as always great vid. looking at your settings i see you use AUTO . Do you feel that leave holes in your DEF. because you dont know what particular play that defender will do he may play gap when you what smother . I prefer to set exactly how i want every player to play. whats your opinion
I like my bigs going auto because i prefer them to help and play more organically. You can see my wings always get a specific assignment setting, i am okay with my bigs doing their thing a bit. It keeps my back line more stable and unpredictable, also i switch to my bigs ALOT during defensive possession so i find auto stronger for my style.
Thats fine go to practice mode and scrimmage play on rookie to test things out. I suggest go to my all tutorial playlist and start with #1 and work you way up. That's the best way to improve slowly and still have fun :)
+TheRelentlessTroll yup only the A+ contest should be considered as a good one. Keep that principle in mind when you play, then you will defend a lot better with Turbo LS and RS contest :)

In controller settings at default intense defense rather than absolute, pressing l2 is the same as flicking the right stick. However, in my pro-am experience, while defending near the basket/post, l2 and right stick are totally different even in default controller settings. I am confused...
I usually counter this type of contest with pump fakes, it makes the defender leave his feet even if they contest and dont try to. I tested it over and over in lab games and it's about 35% effective. and if they don't foul u they're badly out of position and u should have an easy path to the rim.

the shot contest is a bit overpowered in 2K. It's very possible to contest corner 3's from the paint depending upon the size and speed of defender and speed of the shot release. in real life 3-5 ft of space at is more than enough to get a clean look, whereas in 2K u need about 3x that distance more if ur opponent is good at turboing at u and contesting. This is one area that definitely needs fixed.

There's a very good way to avoid this type of contest is too make the player that is sprinting wildly at the shooter either a foul because in real life if u ran full on at a shooter like that there's no way u coukd pull up and avoid bowling them over. Another way is to have the defender run by the defender run by the shooter at last second which is what happens IRL 9 times out of 10

IRL Curry hits that shot over Westbrook with no contest at all. I wish 2K would make close out distances closer to reality. Westbrook was literally in the paint URL he probably wouldn't attempt to contest that shot because it's wide open and impossible to get anywhere near him. I like the contest mechanic but they have the distances all wrong. even a shooter with a comically slow release would get that shot off clean, Usain Bolt couldnt close that distance.
They have a new glitch in the game with curry making 3's from half court.....if you playing a really good player he can make curry turbo all around the court and then go to the half court and pop a 3!!! I hate that glitch!!!

Hey Sam Pham, I'm a big fan and subscriber of you. You really helped to improve my 2k skills. I learned how to play defense and how to run plays. But my brother still wins all games against me and i can't break his defense. He plays a 3-2 zone but he double teams every single time the ball and im not able to run the play because if i try to pass the ball he sees to who i am passing and steals the ball. So i get around 20 turnovers per game. So it would be nice if you have some advice for me how to break the defense. And I have another question if you could play one game online against my brother because he thinks he is the best in the world. People barely beat him but I think you would be a big challenge for him.
hold circle when you see a double team that breaks it :) try that on him and run Horns plays. use denver playbook and run horns plays and when you see a double too close just hold Circle and a hand off will always work ^^ Do that to him and let me know how you do ^^ i can't beat your brother for you man that ain't right but i can teach you how to crush him. Run horns play from denver and hold circle for hand off when you see strong double
+G Ram possible GOAT isn't hard to get into. I know a guy that got there just spamming katana and played no D lol But the point isn't getting to goat is to play the best you possibly can on both ends. Trust me auto settings isn't enough for that. Manual contest with specific user settings will help you to GOAT with all blow outs and rage quits lol

But my brother still wins all games against me and i can't break his defense. He plays a 3-2 zone but he double teams every single time the ball and im not able to run the play because if i try to pass the ball he sees to who i am passing and steals the ball. So i get around 20 turnovers per game. So it would be nice if you have some advice for me how to break the defense.
And I have another question if you could play one game online against my brother because he thinks he is the best in the world. People barely beat him but I think you would be a big challenge for him.
hold circle when you see a double team that breaks it :) try that on him and run Horns plays. use denver playbook and run horns plays and when you see a double too close just hold Circle and a hand off will always work ^^ Do that to him and let me know how you do ^^ i can't beat your brother for you man that ain't right but i can teach you how to crush him. Run horns play from denver and hold circle for hand off when you see strong double

+G Ram possible GOAT isn't hard to get into. I know a guy that got there just spamming katana and played no D lol But the point isn't getting to goat is to play the best you possibly can on both ends. Trust me auto settings isn't enough for that. Manual contest with specific user settings will help you to GOAT with all blow outs and rage quits lol

In controller settings at default intense defense rather than absolute, pressing l2 is the same as flicking the right stick.
However, in my pro-am experience, while defending near the basket/post, l2 and right stick are totally different even in default controller settings. I am confused...
