“Although the robust finale has themes of its own , it descends in thematic material and even a little in structure from the first movement, employing thematic transformation. A more obvious debt to the Liszt sonata is the fugue that opens the recapitulation, but the real fight of imagination is the coda - a brilliant transformation of the themes of the scherzo, in the style of a Russian cathedral choir answered by bells. This in turn is combined with the fugal subject, leading to a new version of the closing bars of the first movement, bravura octaves in the dotted rhythm which pervades the whole finale, and an astonishing drop in volume on the penultimate chord. “

Noone could pedal this Scherzo and have such clear sound and declarative structure. I think Lugansky has become a colussus that I never feltt such presence , continuation of line etc. He makes me a better listener . He makes this sonata sound as great as a Beethoven experience op.53 .Glazunov's wonderful violin concerto is the only music I've ever enjoyed from him the saxophone concerto aand all those symphonies i spent time with maybe I'm ready now to fall in love with his other music . Pletnev should do this one . It sounds fantastic here ! Lugansky !!! I want to hear this man's Shumann Fantasy my facorite pianist Lupu gave a reading I could not begin to like fuzzy , anodine unmuscular textures robbed of intensity -didn't recognize anything.Lupu has retired at the right time perhaps !

Yes. If he was in fact intoxicated, I don't think he would have been allowed to be on that podium.
If anything, that disaster was more of a combination of a lack of adequate rehearsals, Glazunov's limited conducting capability, Rachmaninoff's challenging scoring, the orchestra's lack of proficiency to pull it off successfully, the less than welcoming environment under which the premiere took place, and the savage responses of the critics.

Замечательно, что есть пианисты, которые спосбны исполнять столь сложную музыку. Надеюсь, Луганского, слушатели, после концерта, вынесли из консерватории на руках.
Потому, что только несколько людей в мире, способны с таким мастерством, сыграть это сложнейшее музыкальное произведение. Да, и, наверно вообще, тех кто его может исполнять целиком - не больше десятка человек на Земле.
И, да Глазунов - один из величайших русских композиторов.

Можно покритиковать финал. Но, такое сложное произведние в исполнении кого-то, даже неловко критиковать. Хотя, чрезмерное увлечение педалью, ярко выраженно. Но пианист - блестящий.
И, мне не очень понравилось прочтение некоторых тактов, но это как-то, наверно связано с серьезной физической назгрузкой, при исполнении всей сонаты. Есть ощущение смазанности финала...
