    Great video. The rain and thunder is a refreshing change from music normally played during long sequences of painting. Makes me feel like I'm doing this in my room during a storm. It puts me in a zen like mood.

    I bought mine partly built but sprayed with no instructions and some bits missing. This video has proved invaluable in putting the thing together. The undercarriage is a complete pig. I am going to redo the camouflage and make it grey. It is a large kit even for 1/48. the first time I ever bought are started kit. Thank you for the video, great build. I used lead as a weight for nose as was already assembled. Lead from my friends gun shooting range and melted on stove. It is also massive compared to my 1/48 Spitfire model!!!!

    I flew an A-10 for several years. I thought our base was being attacked so I went out and strafed a rusty tank, a Honda Civic and a Tyrannosaurus. The boss smelled alcohol on my breath so I never got credit for the dinosaur.
    To whom it may concern, these are my 3 favorite art books:

    Absolutely gorgeous. Loved the extra details added by you. Made a significant difference in the end result. I’m glad you chose that particular color scheme for that model, as a gray paint scheme might stand up better in a more recently released model. Looks great overall, and the decals you made were also spot on. Well done!

    I spent most of my 11 year Air Force career working as a crew chief on A-10's. I even helped rebuild the display at DM's front gate. I was stationed at Woodbridge, Suwon and also Davis Monthan. The detail and accuracy you create is amazing!!! The A-10 was a blast to work on and inspect every day, you make this process seem so enjoyable as well. I will be using your tutorial to create my own model to relive past memories. Older planes did not have formation lights, I believe we started getting them in the late 80's? Thank you!

    Thanks for the added info about Capt. Button. I was living in Sedona AZ and was standing outside my work on Feb.9, 1985 in the morning when two A-10s flew into Oak Creek Canyon just north of Sedona. One A-10 crashed into the wall of the canyon killing the pilot. The they were on a low level training flight (in a rainstorm) flying from Williams Air Force Base to Davis -Monthan AFB. The pilot was identified as Capt. Stephen P. Bowden, of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, S.C.
    Excellent job on the model & the paint job. I've built the Tamiya kit and the Revell kit of the A-10 (did not re-scribe any panel lines). I have to admit that I like the Revell kit a bit more than the Tamiya kit. Still have the AMT/ERTL A-10 Thundrerbolt II 'Action Series' kit waiting in the stash.

      @MaxAfterburner  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Tye, you can use a scribe or a mini saw blade that will turn those panel lines into depressions instead of having raised panel lines on this A-10 kit. In this case, I used a Tamiya photo etch fine craft saw. You can lay a piece of plastic embossing tape used for lettering as a straight edge guide on the model. For part II of your question: If you look at step #9 on your instruction manual there is a better view of how C4 is supposed to sit on the landing gear parts, in particular the left man gear in this instance. Hope this all helps.

    I have been following you since I did the f22 raptor by hasagawa. Since I'm a novice. I'm learning a lot from you. And thank you for sharing. After that I did the f18 f. Once I was done with that. I bought the a10 by tamiya. And I swear to you. A day later. you came out with this video. Great timing. My next plane that I'm doing is the academy hobby F4 J phantom 1/48. Hint hint. And I just finished the tamiya F14D. Beautiful model. Looking forward to more videos. Cheers

    I've lived in Tucson almost 50 years, seen a lot of awesome planes flying out of DM and the air national guard base- but I really like the A-10 the best- the most beautiful ugly plane ever- great build!

    Thank you for sharing a beautiful build. I'm particularly glad that you kept your weathering to look more realistic.
    IMO, a lot of the aircraft builds on TH-cam have modelers over-exaggerating their panel lines, and "over-weathering" their projects. So the finished products, while displaying fabulous technique, look like parodies of the real thing.

    I too have just recently bought this kit. I haven't started it yet. I can confirm with Max that the kit is high quality but its detail is so-so. There are Chinese models (Hobby Boss) that said to be the gold standard. Again excellent work and it's more about the craftsmanship and painting that is emphasized than the model itself.

    • @MaxAfterburner
      @MaxAfterburner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks EDX2308, I'll have to check out the Hobby Boss version. I truly liked their Su-27 Flanker B kit.

    • @yakidin63
      @yakidin63 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hobbyboss is the best. Followed by the old Revell-Monogram with the raised panel lines. Italeri comes a close third. IMO.

    Great result, I’ve just really started model making in my 50’s. I’m struggling to start the cam paint job. I haven’t access to scanner but a printer I do. How do I go about scaling from the online document to print at the right scale. Any ideas, thanks.

    • @MaxAfterburner
      @MaxAfterburner  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi TheProccy68, have you seen my video on creating templates? If you don't have a scanner but access to a photocopy machine at work or at a local printshop, you can come up with the needed masks. I actually cover the A-10 as one of the examples: th-cam.com/video/iE7MtwrjaOg/w-d-xo.html
      Let me know if you need additional pointers if the video doesn't help. 👍

    I was 16 (1984/85) on a school geography trip to Flamborough Head in Yorkshire. Crossing the Yorkshire Wolds on a long straight road there came flying down the road towards us were two Hogs. One either side of the road flying low. It was an experience. The rest of the class didn't have a clue what they were seeing sadly.

  • @zorax15
    @zorax15 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the fact that you paint your models in the 80s camo pattern rather than using the modern painting scheme where every plane is just gray. Unfortunately many kits just provide the decals for the modern paint schemes. Up unti now I haven't found decals for an F-15 with the small colored cockades to build an F-15 from the 80s era.

    Damn fine build. I built this exact same kit just a few months ago and had a hard time with its poor fitting. However, you made it look flawless anyway and it just shows how much I still have to learn.
