I just ordered some Crockett's 2, can't wait for those. I was on the fence about the Half Cab's Pros. But I may just have to get some after seeing this.
The later ones were not the same. Less padding and really crappy insoles. I own a pair of the Sal 20, the white with black soles. Looked great but felt horrible!
Just got these. These felt a little stiff at first but I skated mini for a good hour or so and the broke in. I went to another park and they were skating really well, flick wasn’t a bother at all. I have skinny feet and keep the two top loops open so the tongue is out (style) and I don’t have a problem. Good review but just my 2 cents guys. I think they wee so good out of the box I’m definitely grabbing another pair
Similar to these half cabs was these Omar Hassan’s “la cripta dos” pro model vans, specifically the mid tops. My favorite pair of shoes I have ever had. Sounds just like these newer half cabs, man this vid makes me miss them Thnx u Ben I’ve been searching for anything similar to those old shoes and this sounds close!

Good stuff, definitely like the 90s vibe of those. Have you ever tried the SK8-hi pros and how much would they be different in terms of height and a potential for ankle protection? For me durability is a bit more important than getting worn in quickly, as I'm still a total beginner. Judged by what you skate a hi top probably isn't your thing. But having skated a few higher shoe models I've noticed those get fairly hot. Maybe a Halfcab is a happy medium.

watchin coz i just woke up..almost 6am here in d Philippines..my very first purchase of Vans halfcabs was 2006. wore them at a contest and a friend of mines first comment was, "old shool'..lol
The problem for me with all the vans vulcs are the sole is too thin and doesn't "spread" evenly on your deck, so they don't provide the stability and especially slip ons or eras feel flimsy and unstable. The moment you put them on and step on the ground you feel the ground through the ball of your foot. And ultracush feels mushy and undefined. Pop cush same problem with a more firm yet unstable and squishy feel. Sticking to older bruins (new ones don't have structure) and blazers
@@fabiogaliano Nike Blazers and Bruins (both low). The problem is the GT version of blazers is thinner in general in the toe are for added boardfeel, but just makes the shoe less supportive. And the Bruins they sell(were first called the "ultra" version is crap. So old Bruins if you can find them and old blazers. Nike is gonna bring back the classic Blazer low back probably at some point. Basic Lakais like any Riley,and Dalys are great too
Thank you for the useful review! A question about the sizing: I've been having a lot of problems finding good skate shoes for wide/tall feet, do you think these offer plenty of room in that regard? I'm especially having issues with the dreaded forefoot pinch, where the area where the toe box ends and the laces begin pinches on the one or both sides of the foot.
I've normally only ever worn Emerica's but bought an all black pair of these to wear outside of skating and they fell apart insanely quick not even skating in them.
I like the feel of skating half cabs, but I had a huge problem with th regular pros where the adhesive connecting the vulcanised rubber to the sole of the shoe would split and blow out and within a week or two the sole had almost completely seperated, did anything like that happen with yours to any extent?
I got new slip on vans a couple days ago and it also has the kickflip problem and I wasn’t used to the insane grip but now I skate better and more comfortable
Dont you skate Ventures anymore Ben? Why if i may ask? Do they break in and get hardet or wise werse. Cuz mine was super loose and now they gotten harder i dont know if i can loosen the bolt more. Will they get looser? Cuz i heard Ventures get harder over time.
@@mulldriftyr Yeah fought about bones but often trucks are the best their original way that's how I feel anyway, when I start messing with my trucks I don't stop and never get used to them. But skated them today and they felt great actually so no need :)
What's that crusty spot with all the ledges called again? I used to remember seeing alot of footage there from my friends and other people on the mainland in the earliers 2000s
Cabs are cool, they are so durable, for someone who doesn't like to spend loads of money on shoes these are the best option, have been skating them for 2 months they still are good to go for another 2. Took me awhile to get used to them tho, but once you get it, they feel perfect.
I really like my half cabs, but I have exactly the same experience. flip tricks are a serious struggle with them. They feel really great though and look awesome

Hi Ben, I'd love to learn your take on the Van's AVE Pro shoes. I'm a 35 year old skater who finds they're a great balance between board feel and comfort (for my old bones).
My last skate shoes were half cabs, loved them. Rocked the army green/ black and blacked out, don't make em like they used to, converse chuck taylors high in the 80s and 90s, used to cut them to mid, like the half cabs, because they looked so damn cool.
I luv half cabs. Im on my 3rd pair now. What i love abt halfcab is its style. Its classic look. It has wide sole so its perfect for me cos im flat footed. It's durable. It has thick sole, and it's suede. Only con that i can think abt this shoe is that its kinda bulky, took some time for me to break it in. And lastly, the sand! Where do this freakin sands come from?
I’ve been hoping for this video! I got a pair of the og half cabs a couple months before the mike carol vid and was super curious what you thought of them. My thoughts were similar, although I was getting heel bruises until I did shoe surgery and replaced the insoles. I really ended up liking them, but the top of the mid cuff was starting to bug me so after I blow through the lakais I have now I’m gonna try the Rowan pros as I suspect they’ll feel similar but lower. Great vid, loved all that footage!

Half Cab Pros are one my go to shoes. I like that they're always available. I hate liking another model just to have it discontinued after a season.

I love my Half-Cabs. My kickflips are ass but that's alright since I've always been bad at flip tricks any way.

rowan pro’s are good for wide feet

could you do the creature diy cru kit? It's a uncut sheet of creature 7 ply and it comes with stencils to cut your own shape of your board.
