I think the most weird move learning is Hondedge. It entire evolution line can't learn cut beside they are literal swords. He can still learn other sword related moves tho

Maybe if cutting moves were powered up from an ability you'd see it more on other Pokémon but it doesn't even have any super-effectiveness so even then I'd say no one is using it except... normal types but still rarely

I think why most birds can learn heat wave is something to do with air pressure and them being able to manipulate gust of winds. Kinda like feeling a very warm or hot breeze during afternoon.
Ok the heat wave one for the birds and shiftry make sense since they can use wind since heat wave is kinda like wind(shiftry is based on a tengu a wind master)

This is a better compilation topic than the stat ones, IMO, you should make more of these. Game freak is notorious for having the stats be stupid and arbitrary, but there's no excuse for some of these bizarre move assignment choices.
You would think shiftry knowing heat wave is illogical type wise until you remember he is based on a tengu and heat wave is just very hot wind. So logically he can produce hot waves with his fans. This also includes birds with wings. Sounds dumb until you try fanning yourself with raw humid weather. It isn't going to cool you off.
I think the reason why butterfree can't learn fly Is because of it butterfly wings...butterfly wings are fragile and can break easily...and you hitting the opponent pretty hard and they can easily break those wings

Groudon is ground time. And Heat wave would be more appropiately for fire types (or flying types since it involves hot air). If it were lava wave or magma wave then it would actually make sense.
Primal groudon (version pictured in video) is actually a fire type as well as ground type even though normal groudon is pure ground so the not a fire type logic doesn’t work for this one

In 6th gen they were starting to phase out HM moves, and Cut is kinda useless outside of its use as a field move.
