Brings back fond memories of David. He lived with my family for I think a few years in Virginia when he was a street musician in Georgetown. RIP my brother.

Only the good cross over so young...and thank the power above that Mr. Schnaufer lived when recordings and videos were possible, to preserve the magic and awe...how 3 notes and four strings can give so much music only happens with 'phenoms'.
    Thaks for posting.

I was sitting by a campfire two nights ago playing my dulcimer when a whippoorwill started singing along with me. I thought of this, how David listened to the birds and wrote this song in response to their calls. It was a "David" moment, reminding me again of his beautiful soul, and his enduring imprint on my life. Knowing him and studying with him changed me forever. I need to learn this medley before my hands and mind give out!

Such a wonderful person and amazing musician. He was called to bring the sweet, gentle sounds of the mountain dulcimer to us, the soft, haunting sounds that speak tenderness and beauty to our spirits. RIP dear David. What a privilege to have known you.

Some bright morning I'll Fly away to Texas in the sky and dulcimer
jam with #DavidSchnaufer. What a heavenly sound that will be. 🤠 A kindred bound that only Native Texans experience.

I just had my first dulcimer lesson yesterday. My instrument came to me as a sad gift and I didn't want to waste it. But I am actually drawn to the way the dulcimer allows you to play chords and melodies at the same time in a fashion that's amenable to a simple music person, a person who is intimidated by six strings or eighty-eight keys. But you demonstrate that there's a lot of sophistication in the dulcimer. I'm going to have to bug my teacher about how I can play songs not written in D and how I can use the instrument as a songwriting tool.

I can just imagine him listening to the birds and figuring out the key. I miss him so much. He was my musical North Star. What a privilege to know him, isn’t it, Debbie?

It's in DAD with a capo at the 4th fret. If you know the chords for the song and take it slow it's actually pretty logical and falls under the fingers very well.

So sad that he crossed over. RIP David, thanks for the great music. I would love to learn Morning Birtds. I wonder if it's in a different tuning. I don't understand how people could talk during this musical beauty.
