I think it was a dream planted by her when they spoke because it was exactly what she had said. It was meant to plant guilt and make him doubt himself. Her manipulation is meant to push him to the depth of that darkness he keeps sheathed within, as Rhaenyra put it, and divide team Black. Aemon desperately wants to be King. But what I think he wants even more is to be Daemon. He grew up hearing from Alicent and Otto about what a dangerous swordsman Daemon was. How cruel and brutal he is. Now Aemon is trying to be that. Only, Daemon is a multi-faceted complex character. Brutal and cruel, yes, but much more. Aemon is simply cruel. A pale shadow of an impersonation of Daemon.
