    One of the shortest flights that I had in Indonesia. Lombok-Sumbawa. We made the cirle to land approach. Lombok is the beautiful island just near to Bali. It has less roads, hotels and party places then Bali, but has incredible Rijani mountain. Sumbawa is kind of small agriculture town. ATR72-600 is the most fast way to get to Sumbawa. My record was 20 minutes of flight time.

    From ur personal preferences, u prefer to fly an ATR or Boeing? And can you explain why? I’m just simply curious hehe

    • @PilotBlogDenys
      @PilotBlogDenys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are very different. I like ATR, but I think B737 is more robust and very powerful. ATR is underpowered airplane. However ATR gives more manual flight experience and ATR's cockpit is more advanced (600 version). Thanks for the comment...

    • @arsyanadira7242

      Pilot Blog thx for ur reply hehhe and one more question, is it easier using ATR or Boeing for landing? The fact they’re very different, one is high wing and low wing for the other. They requires different landing technique or not?

    • @PilotBlogDenys
      @PilotBlogDenys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@arsyanadira7242 B737 Is more easy to land. It has positive pitch on appoach and it is very nice to flare from that one. ATRs have negative pitch (nose down) on approach. As for landing thechnique ATR gives possibility to land with sideslip (crosswind), but it is not very good to land with bank on every airplane type... Thanks for your question!

  • @andyozar6089
    @andyozar6089 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Captain, it seems like pilots are able to switch model aircraft depending the flight? for example, one day you fly with the B737 and next day with the ATR72, is that possible?

    • @PilotBlogDenys
      @PilotBlogDenys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, if you have 2 types of aircraft in your license. But you can't fly 2 types at the same day.

      Hi Derrick. I think you can make it to Susi air or something. Indonesia has now strict policy for foreign pilots, because they want to employ locals, who are out of the job. That is why I had to move from Indonesia. Airline need to prove to government, that they really need expat pilots, so airlines prefer just to take locals. But Asia is big, and still growing.

    I didn't understand if you were the pf or pm during takeoff roll. Can anyone tell me what happened at 14th min when the cpt took the controls. Was there something wrong or he was the pf all along?

    • @PilotBlogDenys
      @PilotBlogDenys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was PF thought out the flight. During take off roll Captain grabs the yoke at 70kts. Since the rudder pedals have no link with nose wheel on ATRs.

    Why don't they make it mandatory to have cameras in the cockpit for air crash investigations?
    This video shows how useful they could be in the event that something happens. Cool video btw.

  • @chomer14

    Hi capt, just wondering why the f/o pushed the control column forward after landing when you were pilot flying?

    • @PilotBlogDenys
      @PilotBlogDenys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi there! The ATRs nose gear steering is not available from rudder pedals. That is why after landing F/O takes control of the yoke, pushing it a little down and rolls it into the wind (right/left) if the crosswind component exists. Captain takes the tiller on the left part and steers the airplane nose gear. Usually that transfer happens at 70kts but may happen earlier, depends on the situation... Thanks for the question.
