USA is starting to use laser on their destroyers and laser need quite a big of energy and the newer radars are also using more energy, thus bigger engine room for generating more energy. And that is also why the designed the enlarged version of Mogami class, just like USA is working on a DDX-class to replace current destroyers and also why constelation class is so big for the weapon package it have, Electricity-production
The upgraded Mogami looks nice, i do not know or understand however why the original FFM Mogami's were so undergunned... No VLS cells with such a large ship? Fitted for but not with?
COVID-19 and budget problems. In addition, the previous class was a minesweeper. To counter China, the MSDF upgraded minesweepers to frigates. Armaments were kept to a minimum due to budget acquisition formalities, and VLS was installed at a later date depending on the risk situation. The reason why the Mogami-class is a challenging model is because the previous class was a minesweeper and a corvette, so there is a certain degree of tolerance for failure.

If the RAN chooses the upgraded Mogami-class, what will the combat system be? This is just my guess, but I think that the JMSDF's combat system is composed of TACTICOS + Japanese-made tactical information processing equipment from the Hyuga-class (This is because, when I was researching TACTICOS, I found a description of the Hyuga-class, and it was also written that Japan insisted on domestically producing the core tactical information processing equipment.) Therefore, I think there may be an option to change this Japanese-made tactical information processing equipment to an Australian-made one.
Great question the 11 x Australian ships will be fitted the Australian long range CEAFAR AESA radar system and fixed AESA FCR like on the Hunter class. The combat system might be a possibility of the SAAB 9LV Combat Management System upgraded version or the AEGIS system.
They won’t change it. The SEA3000 project is explicitly scoped to not making changes to selected platforms. Jamming in an Australian combat system or AEGIS would be the definition of failure for this project.
The Mogami class frigates are one of the most advanced ships in the world, but Japan has a substantial destroyer fleet and is deliberately reducing its anti-aircraft capabilities of Mogami class. Meanwhile, Japan is switching to the next generation New-FFM after Mogami class, which I think is the cutting edge frigate Australia should get.
Question did he say this ship has a middle ranged SAM? If given a 32 x MK 41 VLS (4 x 8) are they full strike length versions or the shorter tactical versions like on the ANZAC class?
I think it's the essm block 2. The only Japanese-made anti-aircraft missile is a long-range missile. The domestic ASROC is 6.5m long, so the VLS is even longer than that.

Phillipine Navy have already got 2 new frigates, some are within their budget limits. What Phillipine need to focuse on now is to what they are going to replace their corvettes with. A new build or buy a old used ship again. If I was Phillipine navy, I would never consider big excpensive frigates. Phillipines have a lot of islands and they can use that to thir advantage by studying Norway Cold war tactics. build 20-30 - 35 meters 45 knots fast attack crafts armed with a 40-56mm gun, anti ship missiles, radar and a MASS-system or RAM-CIWS, and yous the islands to your advantege. then have smaller groups of reserve-soldiers with local knowledge placed out islands, that can report on hostil movments but also carry Javelins etc. And use those 2 frigates and the corvettes and submariens to prevent submarine movment.
Mogami-class ships are designed to be equipped with 16 cells VLS, and VLS will be equipped from Natori (FFM-9) The first 8 ships currently don't have VLS because of the cost, but MoD decided to install VLS on them.
It was announced this year that from the 7th unit onwards it will be delivered with the VLS installed, the first 6 units will receive the VLS gradually when they stop for overhauls at the shipyards.
While they have capabilities to carry VLS, currently they dont. I believe Natori will be the first ship actually to be outfited with VLS. Budget reasons i believe, but that is mistake, becase if sudden war started, this ships are at disatvantage.

The number of VLS cells is a significant matter for the USN particularly as the Ticonderoga Class Cruisers are nearly end of life. The new Constellation Frigates only include 32 VLS cells instead of 48 which the USN originally wanted. The Japanese Mogami Class ship model looks like they have VLS but it doesn’t seem like this is a firm requirement.
I think it would be better to buy the upgraded Mogami class. It is a ocean-going grade. Problems such as rainwater flowing into the hangar due to the slope of the flight deck and crew dissatisfaction due to a defective diesel engine installation have been improved. The Japanese yen is cheap and the construction period is short, so it will probably be half the price of a European ship. Medium-sized UUVs can also be operated from the rear dock. The flight deck is long and wide, so large transport helicopters can land. The Mogami-class radar also doubles as a periscope detection radar, suppressing submarine reconnaissance activities within a 20km radius of the radar. The MSDF is also considering installing laserCIWS and HPM.
It will be interesting to find out the range for the Mogami and upgraded Mogami Class. The Australian frigates they would replace have a 6,000nm range at 18 knots.
@@Sam-cn4ch The upgraded Mogami-class will be able to reach 18 knots with just the diesel engines. It is equipped with MT30, but I don't think it will be used except for anti-submarine operations. The JMSDF is aiming to become a blue water navy, so there is no room for error.
I hope that the upgraded Mogami-class will be like GCAP. My guess is that Japanese warships from the Hyuga-class onwards will be equipped with TACTICOS + Japanese-made tactical information processing system (ACDS) In the latest model, this ACDS will be linked with a high-bandwidth tactical data link for coordinated fire control. The next generation currently under research will be AI-enabled. I want this ACDS to be a versatile tactical information processing device that can be customized by each country. Since Japan is no longer a great power, it will seek cooperation with other mid-level nations.

The reason why the Mogami-class is a challenging model is because the previous class was a minesweeper and a corvette, so there is a certain degree of tolerance for failure.
the VLS on the earlier FFM is on FFBNW status, it'll be equipped with VLS (this year if I'm not mistaken)

@@AugmentedGravity Upgraded Mogami FFM is designed to be wider and longer than the current Japanese Mogani = FFM will have 32 strike length Mk 41 VLS cells and over 8 SSM maybe 12 or 16 SSM.
Japan did say they it will take longer to get them in the water than other competitors and this could be a negative, and Japan's limited ship building offset experience is a negative but I like this ship.
It's not as good as a Hunter class but acceptable.
Wish he stipulated it had to have the superior Australian radar suite CEAFAR 2.
Bet you Richard Marles goes for a competitor who can quickly manufacture a very basic cheap frigate that can be launched ASAP, with only 16VLS and 8 SSM!!!!
Looks good but needs more CIWS to counter drones etc. A second Phalanx what be a good addition.

It is a good fit for the Aussies but I hope they don't go with the cheapest offered ship with only 16 VLS cells and 8 SSM.

What a disgrace from the RAN not turning up in their blues...
The T31 was out of the game quite early, and they are already in with the T26 and there have been or still are some problem with that design and it doesn't help the T31 design in the competition. And it is not in service yet.
The requirment is that the ship need to be in service already, thuse already been tested and all kinks are sorted out. The only kinks they will get is the modification. Thus RAN are out, since all the frigate classes they are bulding or intending to build are not yet in service and or tested and proven to work.
IN Ship Design Bureau or Indian Shipyards should collaborate with JMSDF or MHI ofr these kind of ships
I see that India has decided to buy the corner part of this ship.

If the RAN chooses the upgraded Mogami-class, what will the combat system be?
This is just my guess, but I think that the JMSDF's combat system is composed of TACTICOS + Japanese-made tactical information processing equipment from the Hyuga-class
(This is because, when I was researching TACTICOS, I found a description of the Hyuga-class, and it was also written that Japan insisted on domestically producing the core tactical information processing equipment.)
Therefore, I think there may be an option to change this Japanese-made tactical information processing equipment to an Australian-made one.
Amazing ship but kinda overkill for tier2 requirement.
@@主水-p5b ok I get that cool 👍but the ESSM missile can be fired from longer cell Mk 41 strike length version or shorter cell Mk 41 tactical length version...........what Mk41 cell version is offered on the upgraded Mogami-class? that was my Q.
The domestic ASROC (07VLA) is only compatible for Strike Length, so they should have Mk41 Strike Length version.

It is unclear whether the 360-degree circular screen of the Mogami-class Advanced Integrated CIC is really practical.
Unclear to you, yes.
Unclear to the Japanese navy and MHI, doubt it.
the 360-degree screen have massive advantage. It give a commander and it's combat crew in the CIC a massive advantage in getting a really good over-view of the battlefield.
"What you can't see, will kill you"
Yeah yeah, when do we get the YAMATO -CLASS SPACE BATTLESHIPS?!
I hope Philippine Navy can bay this capable Mogami class stealth frigates from Japan.
they can bay them, Phillippine do have an harbour. But the guestion si if they can buy it... depends on phillipines budget. And I will say it is outside their budget range.
Well the AFP need a lot money for it but who knows maybe in future we will have it for our Navy
Australia should buy eleven of these with the 32 cell VLS.
Predict Mogami will become Frigate of Pacific. USN still can't get production up for frigates and European Frigate are too expensive.
旭日旗が美しい❤🎉
Can the older Mogami-class ships be retrofitted with the VLS?!?
currently not, but that is the entire point of the upgrade
Mogami-class ships are designed to be equipped with 16 cells VLS, and VLS will be equipped from Natori (FFM-9)
The first 8 ships currently don't have VLS because of the cost, but MoD decided to install VLS on them.
Hopefully the RAN get the upgraded Mogami and fitted with the sea ram.
not sure why they would be producing a modern FFM without a VLS. i hope they have plans to upgrade the older models.
It has vls it's just not fitted yet to reduce cost and improve production, they want build these as fast as possible since vls can be fitted later as it's a modular unit.

@@ironichumorist previous mogami has vls facilities but we're not installed due to budget constraints but has capability of 16 vls. New mogami was enlarged to accommodate 32vls cells.

新しいモデルは古いモデルの倍の32セル用意する計画です。
The number of VLS cells is a significant matter for the USN particularly as the Ticonderoga Class Cruisers are nearly end of life. The new Constellation Frigates only include 32 VLS cells instead of 48 which the USN originally wanted.
The Japanese Mogami Class ship model looks like they have VLS but it doesn’t seem like this is a firm requirement.
Vow nice.
@@Sam-cn4ch
The upgraded Mogami-class will be able to reach 18 knots with just the diesel engines.
It is equipped with MT30, but I don't think it will be used except for anti-submarine operations.
The JMSDF is aiming to become a blue water navy, so there is no room for error.
These sound like a good ship but I would hate to be a boatswain on one. You would be run off your feet with only 90 crew. Forget about damage control.
I hope that the upgraded Mogami-class will be like GCAP.
My guess is that Japanese warships from the Hyuga-class onwards will be equipped with TACTICOS + Japanese-made tactical information processing system (ACDS)
In the latest model, this ACDS will be linked with a high-bandwidth tactical data link for coordinated fire control.
The next generation currently under research will be AI-enabled.
I want this ACDS to be a versatile tactical information processing device that can be customized by each country.
Since Japan is no longer a great power, it will seek cooperation with other mid-level nations.
Off all three or four contenders! The ‘Upgraded Mogami’ class frigate is probably the best with 32-cells Mk.41 VLS, a Mk.45 mod 4 127mm main gun, and SeaRAM close-in weapon system. With minimal crew of 90 and can launched USV/UUV is well suited GP frigate!
Also should consider acquiring an additional one or four FFM or alternatively three Hunter-class frigate, incase the Optionally-Crewed Surface Vessel (OCSV) doesn’t succeed!
