Its an upscaled version of the SMART 4000 which is supposed to be a corvette, i personally dont see much use in the retractable main gun if it has the stealthy casemate it shouldnt matter and takes up space, weight and money but i still hope Spain bulds for itself a couple of these
@@blackfield1885 Its weight is distributed lower than on other ships that have heavy tops, think how you can balance a hammer with the top on the ground but its difficult to do so when upright, and the wider beam at the waterline than on the first deck, id say it would fare extremely well, plus the inverted bow makes more of the weight of the ship be underwater and thus making it more estable not just side to side but when traversing frontal waves (im a student of a double degree of materials and naval engineering so im not totally speaking out of my ass hahah)
@@blackfield1885 it’s a good question. There seems to be a tumblehome quality to the design. These have proven to have poor stability in a following sea as the waves can push the hull into a downward pitch and there’s no bow flare to catch the pitching. Means the bows can get very wet at times. Which might be a slight issue if you have lots of hatches over gun and missile silos forward. It’s definitely an interesting design but very much one that raises questions. The CIC comment for example. There doesn’t seem a lot of advantages to a CIC connected to the bridge and flyco spaces when the point of all the UxVs is to push out the sensor bubble from the ship back over the visual horizon!?. Interesting still though.
It’s a truly bizarre ship, totally futuristic in design and concept. I hope it isn’t too ambitious and manages to find some buyers. Also way bigger than I thought it be.

The spaniards Smart 8000 concept is very intersting. It is like a surface multiporpouse submarine. Looks like the USS Zumwalt but much cheaper I am sure. It´s a destroyer but a drone aircraft carrier at the same time. It´s just genious!
yeah it definitely looks very advanced would be useful if you have manpower shortages, but personally i think needing to rely upon more assets and a different array to vehicles to complete missions sets could be more of a logistical challenges compared to larger more capable destroyers and frigates that by nature are built to do multiple naval duties very well. For instance as a destroyer she looks very stealthy but certainly under gunned.

On positive note I do like BMT design n very smart in offering with building in Australia. Smart 8000 is definitely got what is needed for Hobart replacement but weight 8 to 10t is bit light especially compared to Hunter class.

I dont think a navy is what Ukraine would be thinking about after the war (they will be "losers" even if the Russians leave them alone) the entire country is destroyed and the navy wasnt even used in the current war there are more important things for the Ukranian goverment to think about a Ukranian navy of a frew frigates traped inside the black sea wont have a chance against a country like Russia the reason the Ukranian forces are still fighting is due to urban combat and hiding in cities with civilians in the open sea you are just a target, with no civilians to grand you some protection
Russia had no aim to invade in the 1st place, so Ukraine already lost the war. Russia only planned to wreck havoc on Ukraine which they already succeeded since day 1. Russia will continue doing that to keep Ukraine unusable or less usable by NATO. in short, Ukraine's economy will not recover & so no money to buy those OPVs unless Russia's economy is defeated & so cannot anymore sustain attacks on Ukraine or unless Ukraine negotiates w/ Russia & NATO to become a neutral state

Well from my Knowlege the Smart 4k Had 4× 16 vls but is only 120m long. So probaly this has 2 other missile bays so 36×3 where 108 cells.which would make sense. Also i think it has a 5 inch Otobreda Lw instead of the 76mm on board of the Smart 4k. But i want to know what propulsion and what Asw weapon it carry's.

Becouse we are flat out incompetent. Look up the new ASW frigate F-110, only 16 VLS cells, granted all for selfdefense but still not even CIWS system on board. On the sensor thing i have to disagree as those new frigats for example have the best sonar in the world atm and we are the only european contry (not counting Norway's frigates which were built by us) to field the Aegis radar, and the newest one at that, a fully integrated digital twin of the ship and many many more systems.
Why do European ships tend of have fewer VLS compared to the US? Money. These missiles are really expensive. Most countries can't afford to buy that many missiles. Only the US can afford to put that many missiles in their ships. The Constellation frigates should have 48 VLS because it costs about half the Burke but the ship wasn't built to handle 48 VLS. This is the "risk" the US made when it decided to buy off the shelf existing design.

Disappointed in Australia. That model is a Radar beacon. NO effort for low observability at all. Is it a cruise ship? I would not be interested in it. Navantia was very impressive.
Austal is falling apart.. from the cancellation of the OPV project for the Philippine navy to the poor performance of the LCS independence-class of US navy w/c they have plans to retire it.
The freedom class is the one the USN wants to retire. The fist two Independence class are prototypes and the USN want to retire them but the rest will remain in service.

Some weird things with the SMART 8000: Why make a Tumblehome design? They are far inferior to a flared design. Why would you cover the VLS cells? Doesn't bring any advantage. Same with the Gun. It won't reduce the RCS by that much, but will be a complex system that will cost a lot of money to build and service.

I see Australia purchasing surplus USN Mk110 57mm mounts for a very very low price for the ARAFURA-class OPV.
I don't. The RAN have never used that gun. I suspect a 30mm cannon with an 8 cell mk41 somehow fitted at the front.

Ukraine has big shipyards. The sunken Moskva was built in Mikolaiv, Ukraine. If they survive the war, I suposse they will make their own ships

Wilayah Laut Natuna Utara Indonesia menyimpan Cadangan Minyak Bumi sebesar 92,63 juta standar barel atau milion stock tank barrel (MMSTB), dan Cadangan potensial sebesar 137,13 juta MMSTB.
Sedangkan cadangan gas bumi potensial di Laut Natuna Utara sebesar 1.605,24 BSCF yang terdiri dari 1.083,61 BSCF cadangan harapan dan 521,63 BSCF cadangan mungkin.
Berdasarkan catatan Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) Indonesia,
Blok East Natuna mempunyai kandungan volume gas di tempat (Initial Gas in Place/IGIP) sebanyak 222 triliun kaki kubik (tcf), serta cadangan sebesar 46 tcf.
Tak hanya itu, Kementerian ESDM juga melirik potensi kandungan minyaknya. Potensi minyak di blok itu mencapai 36 juta barel minyak. Namun baru dimanfaatkan sekitar 25 ribu barel minyak.

The freedom class is the one the USN wants to retire. The fist two Independence class are prototypes and the USN want to retire them but the rest will remain in service.

Wilayah Indo-Pasifik, khususnya di titik ASEAN adalah wilayah bernilai sangat strategis. Bayangkan saja seperti kasus Ukraina-Rusia dimana terjadi pemboikotan yang dilakukan Rusia itu terjadi juga di Kawasan Indo-Pasifik tepatnya di kawasan ASEAN. Saat ini pelabuhan angkut Singapura adalah yang terbaik di Indo-Pasifik. Bayangkan saja jika Cina memiliki kekuasaan atas itu.
Selain itu, Indonesia juga dinilai menjadi mitra kunci untuk isu-isu di kawasan Indo-Pasifik.

Some weird things with the SMART 8000: Why make a Tumblehome design? They are far inferior to a flared design. Why would you cover the VLS cells? Doesn't bring any advantage. Same with the Gun. It won't reduce the RCS by that much, but will be a complex system that will cost a lot of money to build and service.
