RIch, rich history. So glad for Smithsonian Folkways, keeping history and all its influences alive. THIS is who we are.

This is amazing. I love to learn everything I can about our history. The person that doesn't know their past, wont have a future.

Yes, Natasha, we in Scotland are also slowly learning about our history, too. Of how many Scottish families were run off crofts they had owned worked for generations - these crimes, by the British, are known as the Highland Clearances (also referred to by many as the Scottish Genocide). Many of these families, having no possessions, sailed on long and difficult journeys to north America to find work and some hope. There has been a persistent and ongoing policy by the British to wipe Scotland from the map, to assimilate us, but these attempts have failed. This dark episode in our history is being slowly uncovered, along with countless other acts of colonisation, theft, war crimes and pillage against nations around the globe.
The more we Scots learn of our past, of our traditions, the Gaelic language, the way of life, and of how our history has been hidden from us, the more we seek independence from those who would deny us our basic rights. We are learning and our children are learning; we are also slowly winning our dignity and self-respect back again.
The capital of Scotland's Highland region is Inverness; the McIntosh clan hailed from that part of Scotland.
      Good day to you! :)

I absolutely love how that young brother is carrying on tradition. It is sooooo important. My great great grandparents were from South Carolina. The gullah history was not passed down to us. I wish I knew it.

You people are from the tribe of Judah the real isralites, those that came from Jerusalem down to africa when the Roman took down the temple just like Yeshua prophesied that event would come to pass.
In Deuteronomy 28 is your History when it was coming to pass if You People left God Almighty leaving him behind not to Praise Your God Elohim. All that it said fits unto You all from the Bible tells us You are the Children of Judahs tribe.
    Praise God Shaddai.
