Moog Werkstatt-01 - Ambient Synthesizer Jam (Arpeggio Madness)

  • Hi! It finally happened! A synth company reached out to me to have me try their synthesizer! I'm glad it was MOOG because I really do enjoy their synths! So here's a Ambient Jam I just recorded with the Moog Werkstatt-01 & CV-Expander. The CV Expander lets you do all kinds of crazy stuff but if you know me I'm a sucker for the straight up filtered Moog saw wave so I haven't gotten to that part of the synth yet XD
    Happy to answer any questions in the comment section below!
    Thanks for watching!

      Here is a video showing how I connected them both together: th-cam.com/video/dOlotiJXrtU/w-d-xo.html
      I then put the keystep in arpeggio mode and play it that way. I also added lots of Valhalla Shimmer reverb to the sound (werkstatt into usb audo interface into FL Studio). I don't remember what the patch settings were but it's most likely just a simple saw wave that I filtered down. Hope that helps!

    What a beautiful machine! I'm far from being an expert but it really has a very characteristic sound, I think. How would you compare it to the Mother? I have been thinking about getting a used one, but as a beginner I'm not sure if it would make sense for me. Do you think the Werkstatt can produce a similar sounding results and would the learning curve be roughly comparable between both instruments? Maybe I'm missing the point and they are intended to be used entirely different lol
    Anyways, thanks for the video and grats on the endorsement!

    • @RemixSample
      @RemixSample  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! I'm gonna have to try them out side by side to really tell. But so far I'm really happy with the sound of the oscillators and filter. They both have similar features so the learning curve should be about the same. The M32 have a built in sequencer which the Werkstatt doesn't so having at least an external keyboard is recommended. You can have a listen to this video and hear the difference: th-cam.com/video/tjwHwVBWWmk/w-d-xo.html

    • @yvesdoesnotexist
      @yvesdoesnotexist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RemixSample Thank you very much for your reply! I guess it probably boils down to having the sequencer and maybe a slight advantage on the ergonomic side with the bigger knobs. Having some kind of keyboard hooked up seem like a must for both of them after all. Hopefully there's going to be a way to try them out in a store anytime soon. From your videos they seem to sound quite similar though, which is a nice surprise. I could listen to what you get out of them for hours! Thanks again!

      Yes you do. There is no built in sequencer. The Arturia Keystep is the perfect midi controller for the Werkstatt since it has all the CV connections you need to play it.

    Le son est absolument magnifique !! Vraiment très beau ..bravo .Just a Question ! no Midi input ,So you have to use an analog synth like a Korg MS-20 or something to drive this thing ?. NO ?

    • @RemixSample
      @RemixSample  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that's right. You have to use the CV inputs to play this thing with external keyboards or sequencers. The keystep does a great job at this. I can also send midi inputs from my DAW via the Keystep into the Moog Werkstatt.

    love your stuff. how about adding some textures with delay + high repeats? just for the sake of experiments. clear'n'calm sound you have is brilliant too.

    also, please, recommend some synth for about 500$? no keyboard is okay, maybe I'll get a separate midi. I thought of minilogue, then I heard some good words about microfreak, really don't know. wanna create some stuff like you make. also wanna backing for my guitar, so sequencer is a must.

    • @RemixSample
      @RemixSample  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A microfreak is a great idea. I have not played with it myself but from the demos I've seen it's really good value for the money. If you could find a used Minilouge XD that would be a nice alternative as well because it has great built in effects suited for this type of music and it's polyphonic synth. The Behringer Model D is also fantastic value for the money but lacks sequencer so you would have to use something like the Arturia Keystep to sequence it or a computer.

      @@RemixSample thanks for your answer! yeah, minilogue xd was on my list) as well as arturia keystep. but what about mother 32? is it better than behrinher D? as I can see, they both are rack style synths. would you swap your m32 for behrinher d? you really help me here! ps: I had doubts about microfreak just becuase it's digital.. not sure if it's okay for synths. I have bunch of pedals: some are DSP, some are true analog and they could be great regardless of their nature. but synths have that oscillators, so it could be different somehow… you don't have to answer about analog vs digital holywar if you don't want to :)

      I've got a couple of soft synth playing on my computer inside FL Studio. The audio from the Werkstatt is also going into a usb audio interface and then into FL Studio were I applied Valhalla Shimmer reverb and probably some delay. I'm playing the arpeggio of the Werkstatt using the Arturia Keystep. I don't remember if I synced that to my computer or if I used dialed in the right tempo.

    The arpeggio from 1:50 reminds me a bit of the end of Final Fantasy VII's Victory Fanfare: th-cam.com/video/-YCN-a0NsNk/w-d-xo.html or the last part of Stranger Things - Kids: th-cam.com/video/Ha2OcL_0gtM/w-d-xo.html

    Less is sometimes more, sweety. Example, breaks is give that magic breath what the man of today is forgotten from his notes. That is provide the immeasurable excitement before a next tune. Not a loudly grinding from any vallhalla, shimering, etc. filling tune effects. Less loudly fills, take them step down on background, and: - Please tell to us, what your want with your music! We are curious about to it! Thanks a lot for already exist greatest mixies! Ambient too can be proudly fairy tale.
