What’s funny is that the dub actually DID make the anime better in every sense. It performed better with the dub. Like the anime was a complete FLOP before the dub came out because they took the show too seriously. Now it’s widely acclaimed as one of, if not THE best dub performances in anime history!

That whole dub is amazing
Hearing Keith Silverstein talk about his performance as Hisoka in that scene was so funny. Apparently he went so insanely balls to the walls and made his directors so uncomfortable that when he asked if they wanted another take they were like “nope. That’s good 😐” lmao what a goat.

Apparently when they were considering dubbing the show in other languages, the creator said that that word was so vital to the show that they had to include it in all translations. They didn’t just get the N Word Pass, they got the N Word Mandate

Dude...The Boondocks in Japanese is wild. I have no idea what I expected, but it wasn't that. To be fair, I don't know how else you would go about that scene in a different language; you have to keep it as faithful as possible I guess.

Apparently, Aaron McGruder did give the Japanese VAs the pass, and actually insisted the word stay in, even though Adult Swim wanted it censored.
3:35 I really like Keith Silverstein’s work, whether it be on Beastars, Genshin Impact, etc, but as much as I love him, hearing what I normally regard as a warm and nostalgic voice (Genshin Impact) or a no-bullshit and tough kinda guy (Beastars), feels so weird to hear him as someone like Hisoka lmaoo. I had watched several seasons of HunterXHunter some years ago (before I knew of him and his work) and only some months ago did I start rewatching it from the beginning so it now gives me a whole different feeling hearing a voice I know.
Don’t get me wrong tho, I consider his line delivery to be very on point when compared to the JP version, and just goes to show the absolute range of opposite characters a good VA can play. Honestly on some of his moaning lines I couldn’t help but giggle a little, probably out of nervousness lol. He’s kinda one of the VAs that continue to inspire me to try out voice acting someday too

I really resonated with the better experience of watching Golden Boy "dubbed". Can't really explain it. I guess the over-dramatized voice expression and theatrics with the dub version just made it better for me.
