  • 2 day trip into northern NSW and southern QLD brings mixed results. The first day gave us a nice storm south of Moree and was long lived by Australian standards. It initiated near the QLD border and made it to Bundarra which is a good effort. Going off some of the hailstones that we saw, plus mid level rotation I'm more than happy to call it a supercell. Speaking of hail, I captured video of one stone narrowly missing winscreen that had potential to crack it. Sadly the chase into QLD was disappointing, we just couldn't get ahead of a hp complex of storms despite best efforts. The lightshow on the first day was poor as well. The second day promised, but was a flop with capping and dry air in the mid layers becoming an issue despite impressive cape values. The storms on the coast during the day had explosive updrafts but never was able to punch to great heights thanks to strong shear at the 500. This probably explained the lack of lightning at night.
