There is a mini expansion that helps out. It tends to make it flow quite a bit better. Still don't think it is great, and I probably wouldn't keep it if it wasn't for the trilogy and runesaga thing.

Sounds like a challenge! I find it interesting... the problem is that one can't play solo... nice thinking and game mechanics...bravo!

Hi Sam. I have to agree with on it taking a bit longer time than a usual drafting game. And the expansion is really needed for you as last player to have something useful to do and it speeds ut the game a bit with the building. You can't destroy opponents ships/crafters with the last såpt though. Only your own.
Anyhow. My favorite in the series (and i know you like it too) is Raiders and Shem announced 2 expansions for it somewhere around november. There are some pictures and info on BGG and the kickstarter page and it will be up in mars if you are interested.
    Until then take care.

We changed it to a normal draft as well. I won't play this by itself but it goes great with the The NorthSea RuneSaga trilogy.

Yeah, this is the weakest of the three North Sea titles - Raiders is a worker placement game with a twist and some recipe filling, and Explorers is an exploration and pick-up/deliver game with some area majority.

I can't agree. I love to start with Shipwrights of the North Sea. It sets the tone for the trilogy - mean as a viking can be. Shipping pigs - like in the last one - is kind of a anti climatic finish for the three games.

I love this game and I don't understand how many people feel the urge to tweak the rules of the game. It has to be mean and hard (I don't even like the expansion which the designer made to please the gamers complaining). Drafting has to be in favour for the first player (there's even a card to be first next round).

comment is superfluous Yes, there is...and if the person who is going first always gets first pick, and that card comes up, what card do you think he/she will choose? That's a very lazy way to try and balance a heavy-handed 1st player advantage problem. Regular drafting is a better fix...imo.
