    Sam, why doesn't this game get more love? It's a really good light, fast paced, fun war game that gives a nice alternative to the C&C system.

    A few weeks ago, I picked up an UN-punched copy of Avalon Hill's "1776" from Half-Price Books, for a whopping $15.00.

    Great game !
    Thanks for your video;
    I watched it because I wonder about morale roll/retreat rules;
    On the rules book is noticed :
    "All defending units (excepted leaders&VP) in the hex roll a die per unit before the attacker rolls for the close combat hits."....."leaders in a hex with retreating units must retreat with them if all units are forced to retreat..."
    .
    That means we have to roll a die for each infantry of the unit?
    And then that this unit could be seperated in two new ones if some infantry lose the moral roll and some infantry passes it??
    This rule is a pain, or I have misunderstood the "roll one die per unit" (english isn't my native language...)
    I see you playing this morale roll with only one die; much more easier; i will play as it now.
    Thanks
    👍

    15:50 a longer-term problem for the flag glue, i suspect, is that people buying a set in 2+ years will likely find that there is no adhesive left on the stickers when they open the box the first time. They'll be forced to hand-glue them (which i will likely do - just got my set today).

    Hi Sam...do you think this game will get samey after a few plays? Great review btw!

    I just bought this game and the F&IW expansion and I'm looking forward to playing it. I also have Battle Cry and yes the flags are a pain but a drop of white glue will keep them together. This doesn't affect the looks.

    Great review Sam; been looking at this for a little while now (don't have time/inclination to paint tons of minis and terrain anymore) as a pick up and play option. Think this has just swayed me to dip in...

    Weird that no games from this era make you spend actions to reload. Would make these games far more tactical as you may not want to fire too soon as you could get caught reloading.

    Visually it looks like Richard Borg's Battle Line alright.

    They hired an artist to do the box art (or is it even a public domain art?) and decided to do the rest themselves?

    The mechanisms and the hex art are pretty much CnC. It's a good thing they dropped left-center-right element because that doesn't make sense for the topic. I also think it doesn't work for WW2, especially compared to how well it works with Ancients, Napoleonics, etc

    Is the second edition any different?

    You need to get a copy of GMT American Revolution Tri Pack for an excellent AWI game system and review. BTW Compass Games is releasing a Richard Borg AWI game in 2017.

    This or Battle Cry from Avalon Hill?

    Just sold my Hold the Line Frederick the Great before the holiday. The series is just too light for my taste. For the beginner war gamer it is probably an OK place to start.

    Anyone compared this to BATTLE CRY?
