    This is an excellent kiln but I wish we could see the construction, maybe a model. It’s hard to judge the position and amount of fuel without knowing what is inside.

    It is better if you use unbroken green (fresh) wood so that all of the wood and even the bark will become charcoal and less ashes. At the starting hole use dried twigs and dried wood and when the chamber is already kindled and when the starter is already burning vigorously then close all the air inlets then observe the smoke coming up the chimney to become light blue then close the chimney and wait for the airless combustion stop by itself. Then let it cool for about two or three days to cool off before opening then gather charcoal. Do not use water in putting off the fire so that when you use it for roasting it could easily be kindled.

      plus the fresh wood would produce so much water when making wood vinegar, making the acetic acid percentage of wood vinegar lesser

    Off griders should be watching this. Clean your rain water for drinking.
    This is buy far the best video on charcoal making and wood Vinegar which is used for WHAT?
    Could you not put a metal line in the bottom of the container the wood is kept? Before it evaporates and condenses at that top pan. The wood pan will drop the water before it goes up...in smoke! 😬

      @@walterdove8727 It contains a lot of humic acid,aerates the soil,binds harmfull metals,it chelates iron and manny otther elements making them available for plants ,it feeds bacterias and fungi because it gives them a ready to use carbon source ( not like charcoal wich its not biodegradable and lasts thousands of years ).
      Its the best thing wich you can use as a fertiliser for all the micro elements and the only ,,magic bullet,, i know.Its also a bio and eco friendly product that reduces greenhouse gasses,reduces CO2 by a lot.

    so do you block off all the vents letting air in once the wood catches a fire? how do you know when it has turned to coal 2 days later? how do you out the fire?

    • @antonhelsgaun
      @antonhelsgaun 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fire "outs" when they close off the air

    • @maxdecphoenix
      @maxdecphoenix 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the wood in that chamber is never exposed to ignition, so it doesn't combust. The fire occurs UNDER it. You can be fairly certain the wood in the chamber has been sufficiently pyrolized when the off-gassing ceases.
