Hi Mark. It's good to have Redd Kross back. The new album has even got a positive review in the mainstream music mag Mojo ... I picked up a few Dictators singles when they put out the 'D.F.F.D.' album many years ago. I've always rated Andy Shernoff as a songwriter ...I hope you find one or two other things you like on the playlist. Best wishes from the UK, Carl
Hi JT. Let me know which tracks you like. My favourites this time round are Pete Astor, the Lemon Twigs, the Prisoners, Redd Kross, the Dictators, the Reflectors, the Stems, the Fallen Leaves and Beachwood Sparks.
Is this the Cool British Singles series on the channel Yesterday's Papers? He posts some excellent mini-documentaries too (better than most professional docs).
Hi Carl Some great power pop here..Lemon Twigs are always enjoyable and fabulous sense of melody. Congrats on hitting 500 subs by the way. All the best Rob.
Hi Rob. I remember your video showing 'Go To School' ... Congratulations on breaking through the 500 subscribers barrier! I lost a few subscribers after taking a break for a few weeks. Hope you're doing well. Cheers, Carl
Great stuff as usual Carl. I have Motorists, Wesley Fuller and Lemon Twigs- all excellent albums! New one by Redd Kross on preorder. My wife and I recently saw Real Estate live- great show and their new record Daniel is up there as one of their bests! Take care. Matt
Hi Matt. I thought you'd have Motorists, as it's on Bobo Integral ... I have 'Melvista' by Wesley Fuller on vinyl. I need to catch up with his later releases ... The new one by Redd Kross could well be a career highpoint. It's even been reviewed in the latest Mojo ... So many new releases are coming out; so I'll be adding to the playlist shortly. All the best, Carl
I've been waiting for your new Power Pop Shakers Carl. I absolutely love this series. I only know a few of these artists like Paul Collins. I saw him live in the early 80's when he was in The Beat. I sampled The Prisoners and they sound great, just as you described. I'm definitely going to be all over this in the next 48 hours that's for sure. I always enjoy your hands on description and analysis on each artist, it makes it easier to get into and hear it happen. Great job again Carl!
Hi Tom. I always like reading your comments. Paul Collins/The Beat must have been great live back in the day ... The Prisoners are special. They should have been massive in the 80's, but they were out of synch with what was popular at the time. Their keyboard player James Taylor did have some success as the James Taylor Quartet ... I hope you find a few tracks/bands you love ... I enjoy researching the Power Pop Shakers videos. I've already got quite a few new videos to add to the playlist (including a track from the Young Fresh Fellows' first album, which is being reissued on the Omnivore label later this month. The double CD version, with a disc of previously unreleased tracks, looks like the one to get). I'll start adding them in a week or so, and I'll then post a video talking about the records. Best wishes, Carl
Wow, The Young Fresh Fellows, that's great. I actually know Scott McCaughey (lead guitarist and songwriter) of the band. He used to work in a record store called 'Cellophane Square' that was near the University of Washington in the late 70s and early 80's. The place was known for the hard to find punk music and its massive bootleg inventory. He had a encyclopedic knowledge on all kinds of stuff (kind of like you) and I would buy records on his recommendation. I had no idea he was in a band until I saw a flyer in the store promoting a appearance at a bar down the street. I did see them a few times when they had no record deal in the early days. He later became the 5th member of REM in the 90's. The last time I saw him he made a guest appearance at a M. Ward show in town a few years ago. I have the Young Fresh Fellows first album but I haven't listened to it in years. I'm curious to know what song you're downloading. 🤔
@@tarrtruck2869 'Rock 'n' Roll Pest Control' is the only track that's been uploaded to TH-cam so far. I'll be adding that. Omnivore's channel has a short promo video for the reissue that uses 'Rock 'n' Roll Pest Control' too ... Talking of R.E.M., I was watching the interview the four members have just done with CBS Morning. I cried when Bill Berry talked about when he left the band. They also played 'Losing Me Religion' at their induction into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame!
Hi Brian. Motorists are having their LP release show at Collective Arts Toronto Taproom & Cafe on the 21st June. A Toronto band to rival Ducks Ltd. Thanks for watching, Carl
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Ross The Boss's guitar solo on the Dictators' 'My Imaginary Friend' is special. As good as anything the band did in the 1970s, in my opinion.
Cool Redd Kross single. The Dictators - I have a few of their singles (reissued). Cool power pop singles. Cheers, Carl
