  • Discovering Opal Patterns -Opal Patterns: Discovering the Rare and Spectacular Designs and Patterns of this Precious Gemstone
Opals are a precious gemstone that are admired for their unique beauty and mesmerizing play of color. However, not all opals are created equal. Some opals feature rare and spectacular patterns that make them even more special and sought after. In this video, we will explore the fascinating "Chequertboard Harlequin" pattern and discover the rarest and arguably most valuable of Australian opals.
    Opal Patterns:
Opals are known for their play of color, which is caused by the interference of light as it passes through the tiny silica spheres that make up the stone. However, some opals also exhibit patterns, which are formed by the way the silica spheres are arranged within the stone. These patterns can be geometric, abstract, or even resemble objects or landscapes.
Discovering the Rare and Spectacular Designs of Australian Opals:
Australia is home to some of the world's most spectacular opals, including those with rare and unique patterns. One of the most famous and sought after patterns is the harlequin pattern, which features a distinct and symmetrical pattern of colored patches resembling a diamond-shaped harlequin costume. This pattern is extremely rare and is found in only a small percentage of opals.
This video touches on some of the cutting and sawing techniques used to reveal this opal pattern and colour

Your opal will allways be safe as long as you don't push it through and let the sawblade nibble on it sowly, no pressure, no bend.
