ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro Hands on and First Impressions

- The next ROG Phone 8 Pro from Asus has arrived! It was revealed on 1/8/2024 at the Consumer Electronics Show. Here is my first look and first impressions showing off the phone itself and the included heatsink and fan.

Yeah, I know that's a huge point of contention. Rightfully so, if you're gaming you likely don't want a hole in the screen. Will cover more in my full review. Stay tuned!!
Same bro, going with red Magic 9 thanks to that, and battery.
Lesser the bezels more miss touch during competitive gaming. They've probably killed real Rog phone series.
The main problem is that the older phones had larger bezles which allowed for amazing dual front facing stereo speakers and no hole punch camera this newer phone has a worse speaker setup and a hole punch camera the screen size is the same not counting bezels so its just worse the phone otherwise looks fine but i was a massive fan of those speakers and the lack of a hole punch camera i would just buy a zenphone if i wanted to compromise on those aspects. The line between this phone and any other phone is blurring and i dont like it i can only wait so much longer before geting a replacement phone my rog 5s phone broke due to water damage and the replacement i got for it was cheep and has slowed down to a crawl and i just want a new phone with good speakers.
Thats why they fix it with ip68
The speaker layout does not help with water resistance the hole punch camera also does not the reduced battery size also does not increase water resistance i dropped my rog 5 in a mop bucket full of hot water and it still managed to work for 7 more months before it fully died when i said water damage i meant alot of water that was really hot. None of the changes they made realistically improve water resistance or else no phone would have any ports it would just be wireless charging all around for all.

I hope they didn't compromise on those amazing speakers from the rog 7 pro.
They already did, they took out dual stereo speakers .
And the battery capacity is lower than ROG 7
5500 mAh = ROG 8
6000 mAh = ROG 7
And the prices start with 1,099 to 1,599 USD .
It's ashamed that no expandable memory slot for this much price better wait for S24 Ultra or buy Red magic 9pro
@@yourbot9788Bro when you complain at least make it right you won't find expendable storage on the phone you mention below so there is no point in ditching Asus for not having one also smaller battery still can be backed up hopefully by superior optimization so its soo early to judge.

The Redmagic 9 pro comes with 6500mah battery and 80 watt charging. Fully charged in 40mins also the built in fan drops temperature a lot allowing the processor to operate without throttling also no punch hole camera. Underdisplay camera 16gb 512gb storage for $800

Sweet! Congrats. Don't think you'll be disappointed. My only complaint is the lack of wireless charging. But makes sense for a gaming phone, it's too slow for the big battery. The hole punch front cam doesn't bother me but many aren't happy about it.

You've made the biggest mistake ever
- 5500 mah instead of the traditional 6000 mah
- fake stéreo speakers with 1 on the front and the other at the bottom instead of the 2 on the fronts
- worse thermals than previous rog phone
- worse aeroactive cooler than previous generation with 2 triggers buttons instead of 4 and no more SUBWOOFER on the cooler to enhance the sound system of the phone
- terrible Punch hole design on a gaming phone and no deadzone for finger control because no more bezels
- cost more than previous generation yet still 2 years of android updates only
- Asus has one of the worst After sales service ever so if your phone's motherboard dies on you, you're Fcked
Downgrades:
1) Lower battery
2) No more dual front speakers
3) No more kunai gamepad 3 support (which makes your phone looks like nintendo switch) - good physical buttons
4) Downgraded cooler - only 2 buttons versus the previous cooler with 4 buttons.
Yeah, def some changes as they try to take this more mainstream.
But supports ROG tessen controller and the cooler cools a little bit better

This is more an Android question than a ROG question. It is certainly capable based on the hardware.

Actually im bit of disappointed this time, i was hoping they will come with console gaming in it like apple did with resident evil 4 remake but here we go. I mean pro version have 24gb of ram and for what?
Yeah, good point. Problem is, Asus doesn't control the platform like Apple controls its own platform. They are basically at the mercy of Google and Android.

They ditched the dual front firing speaker and added a damn hole on the screen..? This is not a gaming phone anymore. Just a heavy android slab with a decent SOC.
They are def gearing this more toward consumers and less toward hardcore gamers IMHO.
exactly! its more like a bigger zenfone now. and it seems like they will increase the upcoming zenfone 11 screen size as well, so they will undercut their on product. but let's see.. the new design is good tho, such a shame they ditched the front firing speaker.....

They should’ve keep the ROG 7 RGB at the Back then a completer box type or flat type design just like the Iphone or the Redmagic 8pro and 9 pro, they realy fall behind Redmagic 8 and 9 pro. its a ROG 8 but the desgn and looks becomea Downgrade instead of upgrade. Most gamers looks not only for specs but for design Also this ROG 8 is no way need the Redmagic 9 pro. Ut looks like a Blackshark 5
What would stop people from buying s23 ultra for lower price who were waiting for ROG. Disappointed.

Huge L for asus. Im considering changing my rog 7 to rog phone 8 but after seeing camera punch hole no more front facing speakers no more huge bazel on phone which i prefer than full screen because it help me while gaming and avoid me from accidentally touch while gaming. Huge L for asus. I'm keeping my rog 7 until they release the new one with identity rog phone the real rog phone that i know.😢😢

More bad than good... Better buy samsung s24 ultra, redmagic 9s pro or iphone 15 max.. the price must be lower already when this phone come out...bad move rog.. bad move.... Same with the notebook.. the cooling design much worse and just follow razer... Bad design downgrade for asus rog in 2024

I think desktop mode is Uber cool but never ever used it on my Samsung. Not sure it's actually something anyone used and I wonder if the R&D that it would take to develop it is better spent on other stuff? Do you use desktop mode on your phone? Would be curious how people have found a good use for it?

like you wouldn't know how fun mobile gaming can be until you've hooked your phone to the Tv game a friend a controller and played PS2 fighters at 120fps 1440p
But ETA prime has tested it in dex mode and it works just fine

That's true, most phone can handle most games but many scale based on processor and GPU and memory. This thing is pretty maxed out on all 3.
First of all it is faster than any phone or there for normal phone use. Secondly no phone or there handles games like this phone. After you use a ROG phone all other phones (including iPhones) feel like stuttering laggy messes.

To some extent it is an enthusiast phone but this 8th version is clearly designed to be more mainstream than previous ROG phones. We shall see if it gets traction.

Haven't noticed it while playing. Maybe you are not using it right? It's now pressure sensitive, not a button. So, I guess getting used to it is the trick?
@@ynsignia Try FPS games where you need to hold the trigger for longer. We have already opened multiple threads on Asus Zen Talk. They have already pushed an update where they have introduced a new pressure level - ultra min. Asus is still working to fine tune the trigger. If you have used the previous version of trigger you would know the difference instantly. These new trigger hardware is a downgrade.
Weird design, ROG phone loss their identity.
🤔 Def seems a lot of previous ROG phone owners don't love the new design. Personally, I dig it.

Sadly i have to agree i preferred rog phones due to the amazing front facing speakers but thats gone now and replaced by a hole punch camera which i hate because the redmagic nine proved that you can hide it under the screen.
