  • The Asus ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro are awesome - but complicated - so ahead of the full review, lets get unboxed and explained as we dive into the first gaming phones with a seriously specced out camera system.
What makes the camera so impressive on paper? The gimbal-stabilized main camera, the capable Sony IMX890 sensor inside, and a 3x optical zoom with OIS. Go beyond the camera bump, though, and the ROG Phone 8 marks a huge shift for the line, with its less tall design, updated rear display, IP68 water-resistant body, and a totally overhauled look and feel.
While the vanilla ROG Phone 8 is available with 256GB storage, this video's all about the Pro, which can be had with either 512GB storage/16GB RAM, or 1TB storage/24GB RAM.

Always loved how ambitious and crazy the ROG phones have been. This feels like a slightly more sensible take, really powerful with some of the classic unique style/tech.

It just sucks that gaming phone companies doesn't make deals with Developers to make a library of games specifically for them. Like owning a gaming phone then your benchmark of games are just Genshin and similar mmorpg games? Pubg and COD? Where are games like Legend of Zelda, God of war, batman, spiderman. Like run it natively not via cloud gaming. Because why Own a gaming phone if the advantages are just very little since the mid range market now is catching up with specs like refresh rate and touch sampling. And then most of these gaming phones are more expensive than consoles like the switch or the xbox. Like if they want their consumers to stick buying their phones yearly, release good game titles specific for your gaming phones that can take advantage of those triggers and such. As of now there's very little library that even supports 120hz refresh rate. And now users just using those 144hz and 165hz to scroll smoother on the home screen? like come on men!. I'm sorry this turned into a rant.

Insightful, and I don't disagree, though also appreciate the financial challenges when Asus's sales are going to be a tiny fraction of those of Apple. Even with mobile games, it's mad that Genshin has had native controller support on iPhones for a long time, but Android phones need to be awkwardly remapped. Apple just has more clout with developers. I still love what Asus is trying to do here.

Camera, ram and storage got a nice bump up, and we have wireless charging.. cool. What do we lose in the process? Well..
    -World class front facing speakers.
    -Subwoofer on the cooler.
    -500MAH from the battery.
    -The LED Indicator.
-Thick bezels to avoid accidential touches.
-That really cool vent that flips open when cooler is attached.
-You gain a holepunch in your display.
I ask all of you.. is this worth it? To be like everybody else?

This is the first time I'm considering getting a Rog pone for the very reason that it doesn't look like a toy. It's a phone first and foremost. I appreciate that they made it look like one. They took some ques from their Zen line of phones that prioritized a more "chic" aesthetic, yet added just enough "gamer" fashion to it to make it stand out. This checked all the boxes.
This is one thing that I've always hated about "the gamer" aesthetic. Bright flashy RGB lights everywhere and for no reason. My gaming PC is built using a Fractal North chassis for this reason. I don't want my tech making me look like a kid.
I just really really wish they would have included a micro Sd card slot and given us the choice of getting 1TB of storage without all the bells and qhistles included.

The power is there, now we want triple AAA games that are also ported from optimized consoles as happened with iPhone15pro! Otherwise it makes no sense to play games only for smartphones with microtransactions, etc. Asus rog began to make contacts with leading software houses: Capcom, squareenix, etc. maybe a porting of the latest prince of Persia so as to be competitive in the gaming market

I'm highly considering moving to the ROG8 because Ip68/Dust resistant which is a major go do to my lifestyle bringing my game phone everywhere rain or shine also 1TB I can screen record my gameplay without worrying about storage as the RM is not Ip68/Dust resistant and does not come with 1TB storage
Also the side port is super convenient I tend to run games for hours at times and can charge as I play with the cord not being in the way

i agree and disagree, for people using this phone as a daily then cameras should be good. especially for the price point you're paying. but yes bring back the dual front facing speakers and more battery. the screen size also did not change btw. only the footprint of the phone got smaller but screen size is the same size. I don't game on my phone much but i prefer the ROG design and features which is why i prefer this phone as my daily rather than something like samsung.

    • @yaoxia9215
      @yaoxia9215 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Metalshark100 I actually love the aniMe vision on the back, its playful and not over the top. I think the design is far more slick and fits a lot more occasions without revealing any social degenercies. The pixel art can be turned off completely when in a formal setting and it just looks like a normal phone with a stylish finish. The hardware is a decent upgrade and currently top of the line. The camera is great too, unless you are a pro photographer, in which case, a camera phone is the secondary tool to the trade. I prefer no screen covering the front facing because covering it sacrifices quality of selfie photos significantly as of current tech. I don't think the cooler is needed unless in a hot place because I don't see a need to cool the phone for a marginal increase in performance, if anything it helps quality of life with added bumpers and a better placed headphone jack, I prefer to just slap on an ergonomic case that can turn the touch bumpers to phsyical and be done with it.
Overall it's the perfect phone for all my needs and a nice upgrade from the s22 ultra.

I think Asus has completely missed the mark on this one, it's no longer a gaming smartphone, it's a standard, banal smartphone, and on top of that too expensive, with a mediocre camera system and only 2 years of Android update 🤦🏽‍♂️
$1100 for that is way too expensive and brings nothing more than an iPhone 15 Pro Max, OnePlus 12, Xiaomi 14 or future Galaxy S24 Ultra with an active cooling system attached to the back 🤷🏽‍♂️
I think Asus should have simply updated the design of the Zenphone 7 Pro, kept its 6000 mAh battery 🔋 or even increased to 6500 mAh,lower the price by $200, offer at least 3-4 years of Android update, but above all, kept its active cooling system.
This smartphone is really not a good deal, and especially no more of a gaming smartphone especially against a $700-$800 Redmagic 9 Pro, it's clearly not a gaming smartphone.
