I don't care about taking photos that much.
So the Red Magic wins for me, especially with that beast of a battery.
The only thing I don't like, is no option to get the opaque version of the phone on the higher ram/storage options.
Not much of a fan of the transparent back, especially when the previous model can get dust under the glass.

    Here's a summary
    Nubia REDMAGIC 9 pro
    the +
    - All around screen with invisible selfie cam (around 93% of screen)
    - the RGB fan at the back
    - the cameras at the back are like fused to the phone (perfect symetry)
    - the design (good old brick like)
    - snapdragon 8gen3 + Red core chip for image processing in game and haptic feedback
    - Headphone Jack with DTS x Sound + snapdragon sound
    - loud speakers (but probably not as précise as the rog phone 8 pro)
    - Ludicrous/Diablo Mode (now accessible throught the game plugins, guarantees the phone to substain max clock on both Cpu and Gpu while playing)
    - Emulation stellar performance
    - good call quality
    - overall smoothness
    - 120 hz
    - A Big Ass 6500 mah
    - Ultra eco battery mod
    - Price to performance (650 for 256go or 799 for 512go)
    - above average cameras (at the back)
    - bloat free
    - shoulder triggers (although the asus rog phones air triggers are better for customisation)
    - haptic feedback
    - gaming switch
    - 2 years of Major android update + 2 years of security updates (confirmed with the redmagic support)
    the -
    - 1600 nits peak brightness (while the rog phone 8 pro is over 2000)
    - the speakers could be more precise (they are very good for gaming but not so much for music)
    - Android major updates policy
    - translations (about 95% have been fixed)
    - Usable but still terrible selfie cam
    - Redmagic camera app (needs a GCAM for better quality)
    - Needs an update for better heat reductions (apparently the chinese version had it fixed but EU must wait to get that update)
    - certains games (mostly no one knows games, arent compatible yet with the phone)
    - Android updates only every 3 months (like samsung used to do with their tablets back in the day)
    - The design while looking high tech is not appealing for your average consumer
    - the shoulder triggers are not as pleasing to activate compare to the air triggers

I'd say the screen is the only thing that the red magic really loses at, it wins in pure performance, but the display isn't nearly as good, slightly higher res, unnoticeable at the pixel density, much lower refresh rate, way lower brightness, and is so much less responsive for general tasks just because of the refresh rate. Yeah it has a tiny camera island but the instant fingerprint reader makes up for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate on your opinion, I just feel like it's the wrong place. No offence.

165hz phone screen as of right now is a gimmick, nothing more. All it does is suck up your phone's battery during normal use. No games support it and even if there are , i will be SUPERBLY impressed if any phone can hold a stable 165hz for more than 30 minutes, let alone for hours of constant gaming.
On PC it's fine, because you can upgrade down the road, but you can't upgrade your phone's internal components.

@@andrewtimothy9792 The higher refresh rate would exclusively be for navigation.
Additionally, I'm not sure how well social media apps/web browsers support higher refresh rates.
I speak from a Windows perspective when I say that 240Hz, for navigation alone, feels a lot better than 120Hz, and in games it's ooof, it's amazing. Though I am not arguing that Android phones will be able to play games at 240Hz anytime soon.

I dont really care about the camera quality and wireless charging but I do care about ROG's IP68. What I want is a reliable phone that wont just ask you to charge it very often (like my Poco F3 which I charge daily and even twice a day when I game on it) and reliable in long terms (unlike my black shark 3 that died on me just 2 years of use due to intense heating and melted the power management in the battery).

How are the shoulder triggers? I never hear anything other than just "they exist". Does the sensitivity go low enough for you to rest your fingers on them lightly without triggering them? Thats one of the biggest things for me that asus gets right, it keeps input latency a lot lower (seriously, low enough to give an obvious advantage to the rog over redmagic). On my red magic 8 pro the lowest sensitivity still triggers the sensors as soon as theyre touched, even if its as lightly as i possibly can, so i need to hover my fingers over the sensors. Not a problem on the rog, it adds a 60ms minimum delay added if i use the redmagic.

Since I am a gamer, the design of the phone such as, having a jack, having camera in the basal rather than on the screen and front facing dual speakers were the deciding factors for me to buy ROG phones. Now, it is not practical for me anymore as it is just like any other phone on the market. Specially within that price point, literally any other phone is better than ROG 8. Its simple as a ROG 7 owner rog phone serves as a good daily driver but they downgraded the battery this model. ROG phone is not suitable for gaming long periods because of heat issue.
If you want to buy a phone purely for gaming, go for Red Magic series for its active cooling but it has buggy software. Rog Phone also has its usbc slot off center which is a HUGE minus because 3rd party controller like Gamesir dont work and you can only use the bluetooth ones which can have latency ingame.

Both are very close and similar in features, the specs for each one are very close to each other, as one that uses my phone not only for gaming but also scenery pictures as well i would honestly go with the asus, but also for the fact that i like how the setup for the phone is, im not a fan for the big scrolling screen on the redfire, plus the back has the ability to be customized with different animations, also with the asus its sound quality is better as well, the redfire on the other hand does perform longer with a built in fan and has led lights on it too which is cool and you dont have to deal with the bulky fan on the back either, plus the fact that its full screen and no camera on the front is pretty nice but it also looks like a brick. The downside to that is the shape and the brick look, but it is a very clean and well designed set up for both phones, i do have yo say if both companies got together to make one epic phone then dam it would be insane. Im not a technical genius so the specs specs i didnt really understand but the numbers are pretty close and honestly id say you cant go wrong with either phone. It mainly comes down to whether or not you want to save more or spend a bit extra for more storage and a more smoother speaker

    • @ALionlikeMane
      @ALionlikeMane 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

@tylercrawford616 everyone runs them because they're the big popular games, and because people (yourself included, unfortunately) don't know better.
And I really don't need to go deep either, because the fact CoDM can be run on a 4yo phone with almost all settings cranked up to the max should be enough to let you know there's better out there.
And Genshin? How many people have to expose Genshin's shoddy optimization before people figure out their phones are only "struggling to hold 60fps" because the optimization is bad? Booredatwork has said in many videos that he's aware of this. And none of that comes as a surprise when you look at a newer title like Tower of Fantasy that has a higher performance cap, yet consistently runs 30fps higher on flagships simply because it's made better.
Also look into Principles, it's regional availability is tough, but if you're a smart cookie, you can figure out sideloading it, and you don't have to do anything immoral because it's free. If you're really into the ins and outs of benchmarking, this will blow away anything you've seen in CoDM/Genshin.
If you genuinely believe CoDM and Genshin are the most demanding... I actually feel sorry for you because that'd mean you're missing out on a lot of really good-looking mobile games that are actually 120fps (and not just 120fps in menus like Genshin is).

There are solid reasons why I will go for one or the other, the Asus camera, both front and main, destroys the Red Magic, Asus can immerse itself, unlike the Magic that does not matter, one phone is more focused only on gaming, sacrificing things and the other more expensive, it is designed to compete with the rest of the high range, in the same way you will say that one is worse when comparing prices, however that depends on your pocketbook ;)

RM9Pro for me is the winner for this year. I have both a ROG 6D and a RM8Pro.
For this year, RM9Pro is the winner because of the:
    - Bigger battery
    - Builtin active cooling fan
    - No punch hole display
    - Improved cameras (for me based on the reviews, it has better picture quality, much brighter and clear)
    - 80W GaN charger included

For me, there's one factor why I can't pick Redmagic. Because of the lack of water protection, my homeland rains a lot and it's a heavy rain too, so if I'm outside, I afraid sometimes it'll happen a situation where I'm on open area, riding my moped and it's suddenly rain, it could get into my pocket or bag and the water can come inside.
How about Rog 7 Ultimate, is it's reliable? Reliable in terms of usage, because I used to have Poco X3 Pro I bought it due to cheap price but powerful performance, only to get betrayed when the motherboard have issues twice and it's revealed motherboard issue is common for X3 Pro and now I'm kinda traumatized lol but really want to try expensive gaming phone at least once in my life. If RM9Pro, you can just buy a waterproof case bag(can be found on online shops etc.) and make the touch sensivity/touch sampling rate of your RM9Pro to the max 960Hz and up. That way you can use it as a daily driver too.
If ROG7 Pro/Ultimate, you can use it on the go since its water resistat but not to be used during midium rains though since IP54 is only for splashes.

I am using Rog 8 pro and the reason why I chose Asus is IP68, better software and because RedMagic is not available here in Sweden.
But what I can tell is this phone is excellent as daily phone however I noticed it does not tolerate cold temperature and when you make calls in winter. For example the contact that is talking to you hears you well but you in other hand are gonna keep hearing short pauses in micro seconds.
With the cooler this phone is not heating at all. And it feels super premium in hands kinda like Iphone. Without cooler the phone goes up to 40-41c and stays at that. Difference between Dynamic and X-mode is that Dynamic is heating much less while X-mode is heating more but it give way more performance.
In the games I did not see any need to use X-mode. You can basically play on Eco mode all games on High details thanx to the new CPU.
Also the touch is super responsive and sensitive, and it takes time to get used to this.
The speakers are super loud. Excellent sound quality. The rear camera is ok. And the front camera is not in a way during the gaming. That much I can tell.
I did not regret buying it. Though I recommend to buy the one with 24GB Ram and 1TB because there is not much difference in price and this phone with this procesor could be used even after 5 years.
Hope Asus make next time similar rear camera placement and design like RedMagic Pro.
Well that concludes my impressions about Asus Rog 8 Pro. If you want a lasting phone for every day use and gaming go for Asus but if you want only gaming and wanna save some money go for RedMagic.
