Greetings youngman. I live on the Flandreau Santee Sioux Rez in Flandreau, S.D., In my back yard is the site of Joseph Lafromboise trading post @1830s-40s. This was the first white post of any kind in the Dakotas. Take care and keep up your work its important!
Tom you are such an inspirational young man in that you are a self taught historian,& archeologist,Thank you for being the good man you are & sharing all your knowledge with us!
I went to your old channel and ask if you were ok…they sent me here! I don’t know why digging old bottles is so cool….but I enjoy it. I am in mid 70’s. When you say “this thing is old” I just laugh……
I'm impressed with how you can stick a pole in the ground and hear that it is a place that you can dig in and find such wonderful treasures! Thank you for taking us along Tom.
Me too, and I agree. I've always wondered how he knew where to dig until he mentioned the plunging rod (whatever it's called) and how it helps reveal the contents of the soil to determine where to dig. I'd never even heard of that type of tool, but it makes sense. And of course, it works! I love simple ideas and concepts that actually work, and without costing a fortune to buy or use. Something as simple as dousing rods to find a place for a well. Just holding 2 bent rods, that turn toward each where there's a water source. How did someone discover that would work? Amazing...
75 years ago, I remember my great grandmother had a set of coffee/tea cups with no handles. She would pour the coffee in the saucer to cool off and sip it from the saucer. Apparently, from another source, I read in certain areas it was considered hospitable to serve a guest coffee that was already "saucered and blowed".
Thank you, Tom, for taken us on your journey. And Telling us what you find in what It was and how old it is. I've always loved history. And you are literally telling history by finding these amazing things. You were definitely talented. And I look forward to each and everyone. You're videos because they are amazing.🥰
I just want to say that I enjoy your channel so much. I love how you include explanations about the bottles that you dig up. It is amazing that there was actually an old town in this field in the middle of nowhere. You could probably go on and on looking for outhouse pits from other establishments or homes in this place.
Hi Tom 👋 👋 another fantastic bottles dig 👌 👏 and I am always interested in early bottles 😊and you make interesting videos always enjoyable to watch tom your the best 👌 👍 have a good week 😀 Andrew south wales uk 👌 👍 👏 😀 🇬🇧
I dig this dude. ❤ He's doing exactly what I'd love to be. I do metal detect, but I haven't found too many interesting things yet!! I will. Gotta keep the faith.
Love it!!❤ My Grandma was a super explorer finding all kinds of glass, and gold, and old money out in the old boom towns, long gone now!!!(I inherited alot of her old glass!)❤❤🎉
Gotta say it again, you just sound so happy and excited these days!!! I love it. Things aren’t going so great for me right now, and watching you have so much fun just brings a smile to my face and I appreciate it. So I’m probably going to keep telling you each video lol
Your channel reminds me of the days when we would dig out old cysterns looking for old beer cans (mid 70s). Didn't care about the old bottles. Wanted those old cone-tops. Can't say how many old bottles we threw away. Love your channel!
We were digging a trash pit similar to that one last year where the bottles and cans were stacked in that dry soil leaving lots of crevices perfect for winter hibernation. Sure enough, eventually, a couple copperheads dropped out of those crevices while pulling bottles out! That was the end of digging that trash pit out!
The reason you are finding that style of comb thrown away in good shape is they were used to remove head lice and nits (eggs) from the scalp, this style of comb is still used today for the same reason.
Tom, I just found your new series of videos. Lots of Bonnie Bros. in that hole! I collect bottles, stenciled jugs, and old tokens (mostly saloon, drugstore, and general store). Have you ever found tokens during an outhouse dig? When a saloon (or other) proprietor went out of business, they wanted to make sure those tokens were never seen again! An outhouse would have been a great place to dispose them. And so, I ask.
I’ve dug roughly 2,000 privies and have only found one legible token, from the Gem Pool Hall in Hillsboro, North Dakota. I’ve found a few others but they’re usually in cull condition, as are the coins.
Hi Tom, i unsubscribed from underneath the plaines, because i don't agree with someone using your work and image when you have clearly parted ways. I hope the other followers make it over here to see what treasure you find. G-d bless.
I love the Hutch soda bottles and the ink bottles. Always love when you find Hutch soda's. They are so unique and beautiful! How soda bottles have changed since the early 1900s. Maybe not for the better. Thanks for the amazing videos you do.
Tom your videos are always so informative. I like that you place pictures of what an item was before it ended up in a dump. It's crazy to think that in an open plains area, the piece of cloth is still intact. Though some items from the Galloway Hoard, estimated to be about 5000 years old, still had remnants of cloth wrapped around them. Mother Nature, gotta love her. The soil is so full of ash and soft digging. You caught a break this time.
I’ve dug 2 pits one at an ancient farm house in Japan Mo. and on at the property of the Byrnes sisters in Byrnes Mill Mo. got alot of perfume, medicinal, soda , elixirs lanterns preserve jars ect,
That weird piece that you found at 14:05 looked like a burner for a furnace or something, but I don’t think they had that style burner back then lol .Awesome dig! Like always! That chipmunk was not happy 🤣
Silly question but did they sell the whole flask?? I mean our Jack Daniels bottles are so large. My hubby has a few silver flasks that are the same size as the bottles. I love your excitement!!! Sleep well chipmunk
Hello Tom. Great video. Lots of interesting finds close together, kept me interested. Excellent presentation of information too, complete with graphics. I have subbed. I’ll see you in the next one. Thank you. Every blessing!
I love your videos. I like to imagine what the people were like back then. The thought no one has touched the bottles for over a hundred years until you came along…
Another great (dry!) dig Tom - when you turned up that wee little chipmunk I was waiting for you to tell us you’d never dug one like that before. I really look forward to your videos 😊
Great dig Tom! Just before you found that chipmunk I was wondering what all that hay or grass looking stuff was. Is it a normal time in ND for them to be hibernating? Keep on digging! Can't wait to see your video with the excavator and artesian well!
Hi Tom! Wow that little critter who was sleeping...that was funny! So I have a question. Those huge early beer bottles...was that considered one serving or did the bar keep pour several glasses from that? Just super curious!
I believe that metal piece came from a stove or even a gas heater or fixture of some sort. It looked like it had small gas ports and flame disperser fins
Tom, phenomenal digs. Nice dry soil to work in. I enjoyed the amber flasks with stoppers in them. Nice embossed bottles and the hutch was awesome. That looked like a striped gopher nesting, so unexpected I am sure. Awesome video, great camera work. 😀👏👍👏
a meakin plate .that was a good find I have some Alfred meakin .i bought some from a jumble sale in the seventies collectible and worth holding on to I think the meakin you found is is alfreds brother
It really surprises me when you're doing something you've been doing for years. But other people will try and tell you how to do it differently. And say it's sad because you don't do it their way?? That doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. And that's what makes the world In amazing place, because we are all different and do things differently. Doesn't make what we're doing wrong. It's like somebody trying to tell me how to make jewelry. Something I've been doing for years. Doesn't mean I'm doing it wrong just because I don't do it. Somebody else's way just saying and thought. I would put this comment here because of some of the Comments I have seen on multiple videos. It's not sad, it's great that we are all different in different ways. Just saying🥰
I’m going to try to look at it your way from now on. Usually I read those comments and think “yeah, he’s the professional…how many books you written, how long you supported yourself doing this…” and so on. But I do get protective of “my” people sometimes lol - so I’ve screenshotted your comment and whenever I get snippy feeling about a comment I’ll reread it. NOTE - I NEVER post those snarky comments, they just run through my somewhat hollow head!

I’d like a shirt that says “ this pit is loaded” 😂
Or “Use layer.”
Front: THIS PIT IS LOADED Back: THIS PIT IS DONE
I'd buy one!!!
@@mandyfr Hey Tom, are you taking notes!
Me too
Lice and bedbugs were common even then, so the nit combs make sense. Great work!
First chipmunk I’ve seen come out of one of your digs! How funny!🐿

Poor chipmunk! Early wake up call. Love how excited you get in these videos.
Yeah, but isn't it a weird time of year to be hibernating ???
@@MarciaShackelford-st5bt They sleep underground all year long.
ya he Did Not Give the Year On the Chipmunk.😄😄😄
Those delousing combs reveal what must have been numerous lice problems - very difficult to get rid of once in the hotel...
ya now it is Bed Bugs ☹☹☹
@@markvanderstelt8999. without a host lice only live 24 to 48 hours unlike bed bugs
Public lice
Cool beans and a hibernating chippy! Love the cleaned up bottles at the end also! Thanks for another fun adventure, Tom!
Now I'm worried about that Chipmonk. I hope you were able to relocate him nest material and all. I didn't realize how deep they tunneled.
Thanks Tom for another great video, the chipmunk was adorable!

Nice to see you didn't need scuba gear for a change!
Really!
Okay. Now all I can think about is the poor little chipmunk! I didn't realize they burrowed that deep!
Always exciting to see a new episode posted!!
Makes my day, 🎉🎉Thank You!!
Excellent video Tom!! You pulled up some nice bottles!! Thanks for taking us on the dig with you!!
I love the way you see beauty in the simplest of things. But they’re not actually simple. They are true pieces of history. Good for you.

Great program Tom. Take care and stay safe. 👍
That blue ink bottle is beautiful
Thanks so much for taking the time to show the ironstone and dinnerware. I like the bottles, but adore the dinnerware.

I'm surprised that you didn't get the wheel out for decor in the yard or something. Lots of great bottles though.😊
Okay this is the coolest ever.❤
Those combs may have been complimentary gifts for the hotel's guests; promotional advertising for the manufacturers.
The combs were to remove lice and their eggs (nits).
