  • This was given to me by one of our distributor reps yesterday. Great old cylinder that was fun to pick!
    Edit: NiteOwl has graced me with his knowledge of lock history and has proffered the following; “The ball bearings were first used in 1902 and were phased out by the mid 60s by which time they were usually only in the front 2 chambers, so more likey 20s or earlier.”
    Thank you ‪@Nite0wl‬ !

    Great job picking this and a real walk down memory/history lane; I don’t think I’ve seen ball bearings like that before, I’ve only seen them up top as anti-drill. Nite’s history lesson on the ball bearing’s and softer brass pins of the era was great too. Very cool, thanks for sharing this 😊🙏

      It certainly is a really cool old lock! I’ve seen ball bearings in the chambers before (prevents wear on the keys and pins) but it’s not that common.

    Cool lock, I have an old russwin rim cylinder, the key bow's are really cool and fancy.
    Good pick and info. I think you are loving your new job. 👍😁🍺🐈‍⬛

      Thanks my friend! The old Ruswins are really cool. Some of the Art Deco trim from that time is really awesome looking!
      And yes, the new job is great!! 👍👍

    Nice picking. If that is 852 or 252 keyway You have a real rarity there. Those were Russwin's stock keyway from 1912-38 and 6 pin cylinders in those keyways were uncommon.

      Thanks! I currently have no clue what keyway it is, but I will do some research this week (in between installing CO100 locks which is taking up most of my schedule lol)

      Thanks Brian! I’ll probably have to measure all the pins and then cut it at work. But I might be able to get some video!

    What a very cool old Russwin. Great information on the history of the company. Nice picking and great to see the ball bearing used in every chamber, sometimes I've only seen them in the first chamber, Have a good week ahead, cheers #BringBackStarrylockAgain #Starrylock

      @@LockPickingPatrolman Yep, Yt have removed his channel again for no specific reason again. This time however it has hit him very hard and he is very despondent and doesn't know if he can fight for his channel again as last time it was an extremely stressful time. so we are helping him to fight by putting these hashtags everywhere. It reminds me of an old Yale lock.

    • @LockPickingPatrolman
      @LockPickingPatrolman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s very similar to a lot of cylinders you would see from that time frame, but I don’t know if Yale used ball bearings in their cylinders as well

    So I slowed down the video during the pin dump and frame by frame it looks like master pin, key pin, then ball bearing for the pin order.

      @LockPickingPatrolman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s how I figured it when I put it back together. Obviously I would need a GMK, MK, and CK to confirm the order, but when I make a key I might just leave out the masters (or just make a low depth change key)
