    Housing stock for first time buyers has been decimated by portfolio landlords who buy up the cheapest stock without spending a penny to upgrade the property. Tenants on the lowest income, often working full time, need public funding by way of benefits to top-up their rent which means, effectively, these lower end portfolio landlords are getting other tax payers to pay their rent all while reducing stock for families starting out. Bonkers Britain.

    • @johnwhite2293
      @johnwhite2293 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      What a complete and utter lie, the reason why there isn’t enough rental properties is because it isn’t financially viable to buy a property take a mortgage out on it and rent it out. You can’t earn enough money from the rent after you’ve been taxed and the interest payments on the money to pay the mortgage. Therefore the amount of rental stock has significantly reduced over the last few years. As far as maintaining the properties, the landlord will only do work on the house once a tenant has left for the next tenant because the tenants always trash the house, as they never look after them. This lady is an ideal example.

I did so two times. If your stuff is in good condition and you do not want to take it with you, you can sell it to your landlord and the next person will have a kitchen installed already. • @thisismetoday
      @thisismetoday 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@liszaf3976 You may not get a kitchen, but you get
      - a tenancy agreement where no one can kick you out,
      - housing standards that MUST be obeyed by law. I am talking about things the UK hasn’t even heard of: No mould allowed (NADA!), windows MUST close and be sealed properly, windows MUST be double-glazed as a minimum, heating MUST be working properly, etc. If any of these things are not adhered to, you can literally sue your landlord.
      This means, we never have to “hope” that we find a place with a decent landlord, because they’re all decent as they know the strong laws. We never have to be afraid to be kicked out of our homes. We’re never cold in our homes. There are no drafts. Nor wet walls.
      Oh, did I mention that you always have indefinite contracts. Meaning no rent negotiations every year. You stick with the rent that you moved in with, and rent increase is regulated so it can only be - I think - maximum 7 per cent increase per annum.
      But yes, feel free to complain about the kitchen.

But don't get me wrong there's many other factors that are contributing to this disaster but giving half of social housing stock away to economic migrants who after 5years can buy the property without it being replenished is a major reason as to why the Uk has a housing crisis.

In the video the point was made that in some London boroughs as many as 1 in 10 children live in temporary accommodation causing serious overcrowding, as this family is. And the fact that the population has recently risen so rapidly can’t be discounted as a contributing factor to the deteriorating situation regarding availability.

      @Jourifouler When the building itself is the problem, it is very, very difficult to keep on top of it. They need dehumidifier, but that's expensive on the electric and the hire costs..but that's a short term help not a solution. Decluttering helps a bit, but another problem is affording heating...but even this still wont fix all the underlying problem and when its tower blocks it is unlikely to ever get the problems resolved. When its riddled through the building, we arent talking about a little localised area you can keep on top of, its everywhere constantly.
      I've lived in places with mould problems to various degrees, and it can be terrible.
      That said theres plenty of homeowners with mould problems they cant afford to resolve either and they wont get any help.
      It is not acceptable that the housing stock we have is so bad, and that housing is so expensive that average wages just wont ever be enough to buy. 56% of people earn under £30k a year, and average home, not even looking at London/south east specifically, is about £300k. This is out of hand.

    With regard to the black mould - it's an increasing problem everywhere.
    The cause is a combination of better insulation and increased humidity in our atmosphere.
    I never had black mould in my house - until I improved it with double glazing. Then the stuff grew everywhere, and I now fight a daily battle with it, bleaching sites with mould sprays (it never goes away 100%).
    I now have to leave windows slightly ajar to circulate air better. This reduces it, especially during the warm weather, but the house is now as draughty as it was before I installed double glazing.

    • @camelopardalis84
      @camelopardalis84 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Leaving windows open slighly ajar hardly helps with air circulation. The only air that gets circulated is the air very close to the window. Opening the windows completely (all the windows on a floor at the same time) for technically as long as possible (unless you're heating and unless it's hot outside and you let the heat in) is a so much more useful technique.

Totally preventable and the government has much to answer for selling off properties that the council maintained to landlords who don't give a fuck.
    There should be a proper resource to access and for violations that aren't fixed MASSIVE fines and eventual repossession of property (free of charge) to the council so it can be maintained. Why would heartless property owners change the law that reduces their income? Wrong solution. Only solution is to stop anyone owning more than one property then build more housing. Expecting a rich person to build a house for you to live in and pay for all your healthcare and give you money when you are out of work is an unrealistic long term solution. The priority should be water, food, housing with a means to heat it and clothing. Without these priorities being met people die. We are in a vicious circle of inequality creating more inequality. This means a lot more money for the land/property owners and a constantly declining GDP per capita for the rest. The GDP per capita has plummeted for the bottom 50% of the population whilst their housing costs have soared over the last 14 years. We are slowly but surely returning to feudalism.

  • @SlayerEddyTV

    I think we should change the way we build homes because they way we currently build homes takes too long, costs too much, and leak too much heat, and that could probably look like a publicly run version of BOXABL (U.S) to build social homes, a company that makes fully customizable homes, these homes are built in factories on a manufacturing line and are put together on site where needed, this would speed up the building process and lower the cost of homes. These homes could then be used as a revenue stream for councils like council housing used to be.

    Right to buy was the greatest levelling up scheme this country saw since WW2. It should have been followed up with another scheme to support home buyers when the housing stock shrank. Renters should be investing in property ownership - councils cannot sustain temporary accommodation for them.

      @HorseSaddleRider I thought Mrs Thatcher was an excellent PM, however this "right to buy scheme" caused gross inflation in the cost of buying a home. Many council tenants were profligate and squandered their money, but on this scheme they were able to buy their house at a peppercorn rate and eventually sell it on for thousands more. This inflated the cost of purchasing a house, and deprived those who had scrimped and saved all their lives to buy one. Also the better council stock were purchased, leaving the poorer ones for rent. Add to this the fact that councils did not replace the social housing stock, and now the unprecedented level of immigration. No wonder these problems have occurred, we have returned to "Rachmanism".

      I believe you. It’s true that many many issues with mould are because people don’t understand how important ventilation is for preventing or mitigating mould and damp issues. So many people dry laundry in doors(often as there’s no where else available), many don’t use an extractor fan in the kitchen or bathroom even when one is available, and many don’t open their windows regularly enough in the colder months. Add to this, many don’t put the heating on as much due to the cost of living crisis. There are many irresponsible scummy landlords that don’t properly maintain their properties. However there are also many tenants that don’t seem to understand how to take care of their home whilst living in it either. Even if landlords like yourself try to explain basic ways to prevent or reduce mould that is caused by condensation, tenants just think this is excuses to avoid spending money on the property.

    A vote for the tory party in the upcoming election is a vote to see this disgusting lack of care get worse. If you vote tory, you vote for suffering.

      The reason why they don’t stop right to buy it, because in a housing estate, there needs to be a proportion of people who actually own their own properties, because if nobody owns their properties, the housing estate eventually rots by having people who own their own houses they actually look after them and keeps the area up

      Because they knew that years later (now), there would be a huge amount of housing stock available for purchase by the rich. They just had to wait a generation and now they're buying it up as an asset or to rent out. Another Tory plan to move national wealth into private pockets. Thatcher's legacy coming to fruition.

    Get a second Job!
    No party wants to solve it. Most of the population don't want to solve it.
    70% of MPs are Landlords. 60% of the UK (adults) are homeowners. The only way to solve this would be to build more houses. But that would lead to property prices falling.
