It's wonderful that this scene - filmed 87 years ago - still makes us smile and laugh every time we watch it. This is of course due to the genius of Laurel and Hardy, classic comedy in every way.
I'm very proud to be 16 years old today and have these classical entertainers be considered my childhood who I've watched since I was about 6. It's a shame not so many people my age appreciate or understand what comedians like these two stood for. Hopefully they'll forever be remembered
Good for you. My daughter was brought up on this stuff. One day she came home from (Primary) school and said 'Dad, the kids in my class have never heard of Laurel and Hardy'. I replied 'well, that's their loss, isn't it?' She agreed, and now - at 24 - she still agrees.
never gonna see the like of this again im so glad to have been around when they were the show too watch god bless you laurel and hardy you gave me some good memories
I recently bought Way out West on dvd which this tune and dance appears and also has the song Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Way out west is one of my favourite Laurel and Hardy comedies. The timing of these 2 was amazing and very funny. Stan would suffer at what Ollie would do and Ollie would suffer at what Stan would do. For example Stan would light his thumb and go into the kitchen and forget that he's left the gas on. Ollie would go into the kitchen with his thumb lit blow himself up and come crashing through the kitchen door. Hilarious.
I remember my grandfather watching their shows and laughing like crazy!! He was Cuban didn't know much English but funny performances like these don't need translation!
this is the best vid of this on utube...chill wills facial & lip movement and singing/yodeling is clear as a bell....each singer clearly presented...love this!!! thank U!!🎵
Like most things that are sadly no longer here, film is the only way that great actors and songs can live on. Oliver Hardy was a talented singer. Hal Roach thank you!
This is why they will never be equalled. Two grown men making fools of themselves in public for the sheer happiness of being in each other's company. Utterly beautiful.
AT THE BALL, THAT'S ALL Commence to dancin', Commence advancin', Just start a prancin', Right and left a-glancin', Slide and glide entrancin' -- You do the tango jiggle With a Texas Tommy wiggle -- Take your partner, And you hold her, Lightly enfold her, A little bolder, Just work your shoulder -- Snap your fingers one and all, In the hall, at the ball, that's all -- some ball !
I do not know which is better, This scene or the one in the Movie short... Music Box. When Laurel and Hardy try and they finally succeed in deliver a piano to this customer, way up on this steep flight of Terrace Stairs. ... What a Hoot as were all their Flicks 😀😂🥳
i LOVE this SCENE FROM LAUREL AND HARDY AND OLIVER HARDY DIED FROM A STROKE AND STAN LAUREL died FROM A HEART Condition AGED 65 REST in PEACE YOU GUYS YOU ARE GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN 😔

Totally agree, they always make you smile and laugh, that's a rare talent

What about Abbott & Costello? And, if you don't mean only 2 members, what about the Three Stooges & The Marx Brothers?
I agree 💯
Oliver Hardy was a large man, but yet incredibly graceful. I'm always amazed watching him on screen.
Nothing beats these classics, love it!! Laurel and Hardy are timeless.
I couldn't agree more!

The Men on the porch were very talented too and must have felt blessed that those 2 other guys danced.
I hope when I die that what happens next is I get to see Laurel and Hardy dancing. That would make it all worthwhile.
Me too. I feel the same.
I never tire of this. They were superb.

The yodeller with the Avalon Boys is the actor Chill Wills. A frequent support in Westerns over decades.
Harold loyyd and these two thank you for the wonderful memories, fellas😀😍♥️
AT THE BALL, THAT'S ALL
Commence to dancin',
Commence advancin',
Just start a prancin',
Right and left a-glancin',
Slide and glide entrancin' --
You do the tango jiggle
With a Texas Tommy wiggle --
Take your partner,
And you hold her,
Lightly enfold her,
A little bolder,
Just work your shoulder --
Snap your fingers one and all,
In the hall, at the ball,
that's all -- some ball !

Most people don't know that Hardy originally trained to be an opera singer. Likely had dance lessons too. Laurel was the son of stage performers.
Dancing love this ...
Brilliant.
Thats Chill Wills yodeling.
The Original, and the best!
Beautiful! I have to say that the recent movie ‘Stan and Ollie’ pulled off a magnificent recreation of that scene!
FOREVER AWESOME!

A TRULY classic comedy team. They just don't have any comedy acts like this anymore, and How Sad that is as much as we need them.
