    Every scene is breath taking, the way the light descends, the colours are very strong. It's on par with actual eyesight, everything pops out like 3D footage without the oldstyle glasses. Very deep sense of the reality and character in the picture. Truly incredible, if i had this camera, it would feel like a crime to put it down.

    Awwww.... Great Footage!! I miss the times with my shoulder-ENG-camera, using it for ten years and COULD still using it most of the time (except 4K or Log...) But for some reason i decided to go the DSLR/Cinema-style way... Its horror... Every one or two years i have the feeling to buy something new. And in between maybe some lenses, speedboosters, rigs etc.... This video may help me to come back to my roots. Thank you!

    The Z450 is amazingly good - even by today's standards. The grading might be a bit rich for some, but I love it.
    Of course the awesome content makes a great show reel.

      the editing is real good, form edit , the movement is followed into the next shoot, and if the direction is to be changed, first he cuts to static scene; basic stuff, but brilliant

    This is a $50k camera and lens combo, but the real magic happens, when a knowledgeable person is using those. Great footage. Is the saturation bumped up is my only question?

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the saturation is higher than the default settings of the camera. I created a custom Scene File before I went out shooting that got me very close to a final image, and then the footage touched up a little in Resolve.

    Very nice work Doug.
    I'm a huge fan of the shoulder mount form factor having been in the game for over 20 years. The clarity was astounding in those pics so thank you.
    Few questions if I may?
    I have a PMW - 500 thats just seen its last days due to an accident. The replacement will be the PXW X500 but after seeing this im wondering if the £2000 extra between the 2 models pushes me towards the z450??? what would you do if you had to choose today? 4k future proof is probably enough in its self?
    I have a rigged FS7 ( i purchased you FS7 tutorial to help get started) for larger sensor stuff and while a great camera I just much prefer the Run and Gun style so much more. Its what you grow up with i guess that dictates ones preferences.
    Did you see any downsides to the camera? picture issues or sensor quirks?
    many thanks

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Charles, thank you for the compliments. In my opinion it would be a big mistake to invest in an X500 at this time. In my book, any camera that cannot do 4K, S-LOG, and possibly HLG is a non-starter. Will I need those things every day? No, but they are becoming more and more important and I wouldn't invest in camera that didn't have them. The Z450 is a great camera and I was about to pull the trigger on one last spring, but then Sony gave me a preview of the new Z750. It won't be shipping until 2020 but I feel it is going to be worth the wait. I'll have a demo camera in my hands in October to put through it's paces, but I already know I want one. Z750 will be the best 2/3" camera ever made with features that won't become outdated for years and years. And a 2/3" ENG camera really fits my needs much better than the big sensor cinema cameras. So, if you need a new camera today I'd recommend the Z450. But if you can wait a few months the Z750 will be an even better choice -- maybe. The price has not been announced so it's possible that I may still choose a Z450 if the cost of the Z750 is significantly higher. Stay tuned.

      @@DougJensenVortexMedia tough decision.
      I have found prices on a few UK Dealer sites that list the Z750 at around £28000 Uk pounds + VAT which will end up £35000. Heading back into Digi Beta Territory from all those years ago.
      I feel we have been somewhat spoilt with the lower and lower prices of cameras due to the changing market and perhaps Sony see this as a chance to readjust the price point.
      No doubt there will be some wriggle room on prices once the initial buzz has died down so will be interesting.
      Unfortunately My PMW 500 has taken its last breath so will need something soon and if i get the Z450 im worried i will always be in envy of its big brother.... That being said im wondering if the 450 may compare to the z750 a bit like the SX did to digi beta. The SX was a great option saving a load of cash...
      But as you say i may regret it even more with an X500..... Bugger...

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DarkskyProductionsAus I wasn't aware that Sony (at least in the USA) had released any official pricing information. $25K - $30K is what I am expecting, but that is only a guess. By the time I add lens and viewfinder this is probably a $50K-$60K investment. If I can find a good deal on a Fujinon lens I think I will go for it because this is a camera that will serve me for many years. I can also partially fund it by selling by F55 and a bunch of PL lenses. Perhaps the Z750 will cause the price of the Z450 to drop and that will become the better choice. I'm glad I am in a position to wait and see. I'm glad I'm not in your position of having to make a decision sooner.

    • @DarkskyProductionsAus
      @DarkskyProductionsAus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DougJensenVortexMedia very sound logic. So you rate it high enough to shop in the F55? For all the hype( highly deserved ) around the large sensor cameras you just can't beat the form factor of this type in my opinion.
      Good luck....

    I can't the get colors right on this camera. I don't have time for shooting in SLOG. Most of my videos are day turns. Can you recommend a good "run and gun" color profile. One that's vibrant and contrasty but the colors look true to the scene? Thanks.

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Danny, I know exactly what you mean about not having time for S-LOG. I looked around to see if I had any record of the settings I used for the video above and I can't find any information. It's been 2 and half years and I can't recall what I used. There's a chance I may be publishing a field guide for the Z750 and Z450 later this summer and I'll have tons of information and advice then. Sorry I don't have anything for you right now. But in the mean time, I'm 100% sure I used HG4 and the master black levels probably dropped to -3.

      Did you check working in ACES color space in your post production workflow? I only know it from Davinci Resolve, but should (hopefully) be available for other tools, too. The nice thing about working in ACES is that you tell your DR project about it, select the correct IDT and output color space (e.g. Rec709) in the project settings, and you‘re done: DR will automatically apply the IDT (Input Device Transform) that comes directly from Sony to all imported footage. I am doing it for my Panasonic S1H, and it makes life so much easier as most of the LUTs in the market are crappy and lossy (even those from Panasonic). So, you do not need any de-logging or LUT-nodes in your work flow. Another option that, sometimes, make colors a bit more vibrant is to remain in the regular DR color space and add a color transform node to every clip as the first node to transform each clip individually from V-Log into Rec709. The advantage of this is that you can use all your LUTS and node-structures from other project as those have typically been elaborated for Rec709. If working under ACES this would be a bit more complicated, as ACES behaves differently compared to Rec709.

      If price is no consideration, there's no question at all that I'd take the Z450 over a Z280. Not even close. In fact, I've spent the last two months working on 300+ page field guide book or the Z450 and Z750 and I have a totally new appreciation for both of them. FANTASTIC CAMERAS. The book will be released in late July or August.

    • @jeffsaffron5647
      @jeffsaffron5647 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These two are in completely different brackets. Z450 is around 40 000 USD with view finder and lens. Z280 is 7000 USD? As Doug says performance is not even close. You get what you pay for with Sony.

    Hi Doug, great footage! 2 questions: how is this in low light, did you find it difficult to get low light images compared to similar ranged cameras? How portable is it compared to an FS7/F55 regarding weight shape and ease of use?

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Arthur. The camera is excellent in low light. For example, the moose as 2:27 was shot 20 minutes after sunset in a deep ravine. Some of the deer were also after sunset. The Z450 is far lighter and more portable than by F55. Not even close.
