Single best guest appearance on any form of media I have ever seen. In the moment, self-deprecrating, warm, witty and even a through line of quality callbacks. Unbelievable. Tom Hanks deserves everything he has gotten in life.
Mr. Hanks seems like a really genuine fella. After my dad died when I was 18, I took a lot of solace watching Tom Hanks movies; he has a sort of fatherly, warm, but no BS type of attitude. He tells stories, he jokes, he…he’s just a beaut.
Tom Hanks is one of the funniest people on this planet. I laughed harder for him than the funniest comedians who have been on here. OMG! Laugh out loud funny.
Tom is by far one of the greatest that I've enjoyed watching from his early start to today. A class act all the way of what a true Human being is thank you Kevin, for making my Friday afternoon a great one!. All the best from Oslo, Norway
why did it take so long for me to find these interviews, anyone who loves movies wants exactly this. Your favorite actors, real talk an over two hours long. Pollak is a genius he's getting Interviews people on TV would kill for.
Great show Kevin, the best so far. Hanks is such a funny man and you guys looked like you had so much fun. I'll miss you all until next year. I hope every body on your show has a fantastic Holiday.
At 2:40:54 "Hey Tom what are you doing up here? Doing Alan Thicke?" Tom Hanks is just naturally funny. One of the best interviews I've ever seen. It's what I like about this show, no schmoozing from the guest about some 17th century period piece or something like What's it like to work with... It's truly what I enjoy about it.
An interesting, entertaining, and thoroughly enjoyable, interview. The biggest thing I took from it, was getting a better insight of what it is like to become an actor and establish a successful career in show business.
greatest interview of a major movie actor I've ever seen..Please Mr Pollak do more of these..my respect for the talent of Tom Hanks grows every year (Captain Phillips was one of the best performances of his career)..brilliant
Kevin, you have the absolute BEST chat show, hands down. Used to watch you live. Thrilled you are on TH-cam. Keep chatting! PS, loved you on Mom. Sorry it had to end.
Best part....around 1:37:00 he says "The key to happiness is to tell the truth-It'll get you into trouble some times but who cares". Never agreed with any statement more
I'm so happy to have found this show recently and what a great guest! I had heard Hanks do a long talk on The Nerdist but this is so much better! Thank you Kevin Pollak.
THIS is absolute GOLD if you're a Tom Hanks fan! Memorable moment: 55:40 mark- I laughed so hard I think I might have caused some internal damage! Damn.
Greetings from the UK! I watch on my laptop, my mobile devices and chromecast it to my Tele. The best interview ever, in a series of, the best interviews ever! This show should be shown in cinemas, totally worth the admission price! Every one a gem! Better and better, but, how's about this, get someone in to interview Kevin on the 200th show? Having listened to his biography there's a fascinating show right there! Keep up the good work!
that’s so fucking weird bc I just woke up 10 minutes ago and it’s 3 am and I could hear Tom hanks talking while I was sleeping so I had to rewind to the beginning and watch the whole thing
Wow! As a wannabe comedy nerd, it's neat to hear Tom Hanks talk about comedy -- even, at one point, mentioning Mitzi Shore and the Comedy Store. (1:18:55) Thanks Mr. Pollack. A formidable Kevin, indeed! ;)
This will definitely burst many people's bubbles: While I can't say _'who'_ first came up with the _"I don't accept the premise of the question"_ response, I do know that Rush Limbaugh has been using it since at LEAST the 1990's... and it's plausible that he's used it before then.
Talented man, Tom Hanks. Chris Rock said that Tom Hanks was THE funniest standup comic among many comics, while Hanks was appearing in clubs in preparation for his role in Punchline.
Talented actor. When he did Punchline in 1988, he put together a stand-up act and went on stage in NYC to prepare for the role. It was Chris Rock or Larry Miller who said that Hanks was funnier than any of the other comedians, funnier than Rock, Miller, Seinfeld, etc. That's impressive.
My daily dose of Kevin...and I appreciate his intelligence and cuteness..... speaking of intelligence..........I once heard a speech given by Tom that was so intellectual.......I couldn't understand him..and it was magnificent.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Kevin! For announcing the ads yourself and not loading up the screen with cheese. Just for that, I will on my own volition check out your sponsors. You sir, possess the lost art of mojo.
This interview is fantastic! Two warm and generous Hollywood guys ( a near oxymoron) speak candidly. I couldn't be a bigger fan of Pollak or Hanks. Bravo! My faith in humanity is temporarily restored (let's not go overboard.)
Another great Kevin Pollack CS interview. Kevin is as thorough as Howard STern when he interviews actors, film makers etc.. I would like to see him do voice impressions; he's the master.
This is one of the best interviews period !!! I had thought his 2 interviews on inside the actors studio were awesome; but this is much better; it truly is a must see; have a PBR and watch.
I have seen inside the actors studio interviews too and yes those are great but this was way better. I did love the moment Tom hanks talked about the movie Philadelphia tho and got emotional about a guy that had aids for real and was on the set and he talked about how he worked at some factory don't remember what kind of factory now but how he would wheel in his oxygen tank at work. That was a nice moment really showed what a wonderful person Tom Hanks is
That Thing You Do! is one of my favorite Go To Movies when I need to cheer up---and to keep it in the Hanks family, my other Go To Movie is Mamma Mia. But I am a huge fan of Apollo 13, because the real event occurred on my birthday and the nail-biting tension we watched in Real Time during the Real Event, well I must have seen Apollo 13 a dozen times or more, and EACH TIME I watch it, I STILL feel that nail-biting tension. THAT is GOOD FILM MAKING!!! Congrats to Ron Howard for that. But man, your From The Earth to the Moon is one of my all time favorite mini-series. Very well done, Tom. I know that if Tom Hanks is in the film, I will be entertained. But I have to say I thought the accent you used in ELVIS ruined your performance as Col. Parker. I'm a theater trained child actor myself, specializing in accents. But then I grew up in South Florida where one hears many accents growing up. Otherwise, it was spot on. I do have a question, though. With your experience working with young actors, do you stay in touch with them to help them navigate first time fame? I am a member of A Minor Consideration and we offer support and resources to former and current child actors struggling with the wake of their careers, so that is what motivates my question, because Austin Butler's manager contacted me to put him in touch with Paul Petersen, our founder/president emeritus.
What an infinite well of grace, respect, humility, and comedy is stored in Mr. Hanks. He's about as present and honest and playful as a person can be. His ability to remember details and names spanning years, even from some brief one-off occasion, tells me he was truly present and truly engaged and interested, not just killing time or going through the motions or trying to prove something. Every interview I've seen with him, he brings such refinement and pleasant goofy energy that fills the room, while also leaving plenty of space for everyone else to be themselves. He seems to bring out the best in people and bring everyone up to the same level. Remarkable, admirable person.
How has it taken me this long to discover this show. Fantastic! Of course I did choose this Tom Hanks episode for my first one soooo the other episodes have a very tough act to follow. Subscribed.
The Burbs is my fav Hanks movie. I quote it hourly and it’s simply a hysterical, clever, fun wonderful movie. Thank you Mr.Hanks for a lifetime of laughs. You are truly a national treasure.
Tom is so easy going and down to earth plays a big part in the movie roles he is offered because movie directors tend to avoid difficult arrogant actors
1:07:37 according to wiki Vaughn Meader flew to Milwaukee (not Detroit like Tom says here, twice) when he had the conversation with the cab driver Now I don't know who to believe. They've both been there for me in many instances in my life
Yes, we had You Don't Have to Be Jewish and Vaughan Meader's The First Family. I still remember a lot of the bits from both albums. I memorized Jackie Kennedy's White House Tour for an exercise in Drama class.
I was lucky to be living in Los Angeles during that golden era of stand up and went to clubs at least once a week and saw SOOOOO many good comics, somehow I never saw Kevin live. Really miss that time
that 2 hours and 40 mins flew by. I was disapointed they never spoke with Tom about the film The Burbs. One of my all time favs and so under rated that movie. Also shame they didnt chat with Tom about Big and some of his other films.
Best line in the burbs: when the kid drives his garbage from his garage to the street- Tom hanks says : I’ve never seen that I’ve never seen that before lol
Fireball XL-5, Star Trek, Apollo 13, "thought behind the eyes", "man of bitter compromise", singing Holly Jolly Xmas... so many reasons i love that man. happiness is telling the truth.
I swear that Hanks could do the KPCS 5 times and still keep the show fresh without repeating any discussion points. Just so entertaining.
He's like a box of, well, something.
Single best guest appearance on any form of media I have ever seen. In the moment, self-deprecrating, warm, witty and even a through line of quality callbacks. Unbelievable. Tom Hanks deserves everything he has gotten in life.
How come this show is not more famous, great conversations and this particular enterview is just so enjoyable.
It bothers me just how riveted I am by this man's American Experience. He is absolutely fascinating to me.
Mr. Hanks seems like a really genuine fella. After my dad died when I was 18, I took a lot of solace watching Tom Hanks movies; he has a sort of fatherly, warm, but no BS type of attitude. He tells stories, he jokes, he…he’s just a beaut.
He's a pedo
Tom Hanks is one of the funniest people on this planet. I laughed harder for him than the funniest comedians who have been on here. OMG! Laugh out loud funny.
Musk wants to send him to Mars.
Kevin I'm a huge fan of you and your work.
Your Alan Arkin gag, with the answering machine still, cracks me up. Rock on I'm so glad you have the show!
Yes, Love your work, Kevin! I'd watch your show even if Tom Hanks wasn't on it. LOL
Tom is by far one of the greatest that I've enjoyed watching from his early start to today. A class act all the way of what a true Human being is thank you Kevin, for making my Friday afternoon a great one!. All the best from Oslo, Norway
Great interview. Hanks is such an icon. I had so much fun.
Why this doesn't have millions of views is beyond me
why did it take so long for me to find these interviews, anyone who loves movies wants exactly this. Your favorite actors, real talk an over two hours long. Pollak is a genius he's getting Interviews people on TV would kill for.
+adam michael I just stumbled across this myself. Good stuff.
UsfanlovesMinho Me too!! So nice...
Great show Kevin, the best so far. Hanks is such a funny man and you guys looked like you had so much fun. I'll miss you all until next year. I hope every body on your show has a fantastic Holiday.
Wandering around the internet wasteland and stumbled, happily, into this gem. Thank you, Mr. Pollak!
I really dont get how anyone could ever talk smack about tom hanks.. hes in my opinion the best actor ever.. show some fucking respect
Come to find out he's on Epsteins island.
Another reason to love Tom Hanks: Disneyland purist. Changes make him berserk. EXACTLY ME.
just found this show yesterday. Love these type of interviews, learning about actors and writers process and ideas.
Absolutely the best intimate interview I have ever seen, Kudos to KPCS on this.
It's truly what I enjoy about it.
this was really a fantastic interview it was great to just have "a beer with Hanks" thanks much man
Tom Hanks is pure class.
He is a good dude, ridiculously successful and still down to earth
Except for when the line is literally _Sowter will cry upon 't, though it be as rank as a fox_ hahahahaha
An interesting, entertaining, and thoroughly enjoyable, interview. The biggest thing I took from it, was getting a better insight of what it is like to become an actor and establish a successful career in show business.
greatest interview of a major movie actor I've ever seen..Please Mr Pollak do more of these..my respect for the talent of Tom Hanks grows every year (Captain Phillips was one of the best performances of his career)..brilliant
dude kevin has been doing these shows for like, 15 years? check out the Larry David interview
Kevin, you have the absolute BEST chat show, hands down. Used to watch you live. Thrilled you are on TH-cam. Keep chatting! PS, loved you on Mom. Sorry it had to end.
I cant believe i just sat here and watched all 2 hrs and 42mins of this.. Tom Hanks is my favorite person ever :)
KPCS interviews are what a true interview should be. I can really see the effort that gets put into researching a guest, it comes out great
Best part....around 1:37:00 he says "The key to happiness is to tell the truth-It'll get you into trouble some times but who cares". Never agreed with any statement more
Touche!
I'm so happy to have found this show recently and what a great guest! I had heard Hanks do a long talk on The Nerdist but this is so much better! Thank you Kevin Pollak.
Holy fucking shit, you got Tom Hanks to come on. I thought it was great that you got Michael C. Hall but this is just... amazing!
Are you.....THE Jack White? You are aren't you. Explains no photo...
Matthew Conti I'm A Jack White! Not THE. But just as talented...
Jack White
I wouldn't hold that as a benchmark. There are mossy stones just as talented as Jack; go for MORE talented. Much better :)
Thanks, Kevin and Tom. I could have listened to another 2 and a half hours. Love that Dragnet came up and will have to check out Electric City.
I absolutely love this interview. Tom during the commercial break at 55:38 is freaking hilarious, he just wrecks Kevin.
He is just that good to listen to. Awesome chat.
THIS is absolute GOLD if you're a Tom Hanks fan! Memorable moment: 55:40 mark- I laughed so hard I think I might have caused some internal damage! Damn.
OMG Forrest Gump got drunk! 🤣
Tom hanks is such a fantastic actor one of my favorites
Greetings from the UK! I watch on my laptop, my mobile devices and chromecast it to my Tele. The best interview ever, in a series of, the best interviews ever! Having listened to his biography there's a fascinating show right there! Keep up the good work!
Love Kevin Pollak! Glad this just 'randomly' came on my TH-cam feed while I was sleeping! LOL
that’s so fucking weird bc I just woke up 10 minutes ago and it’s 3 am and I could hear Tom hanks talking while I was sleeping so I had to rewind to the beginning and watch the whole thing
Kevin, you sometimes have to work the interview but that looked like pure fun and it was just as fun to watch. Four years was worth the wait!
These interviews are so natural and relaxed that you feel like you´re best friends with Tom Hanks.
Man, this is better than most films I've sat through - if Tom Hanks ever comes back to Ireland, he's having a beer, on me!
Wow! As a wannabe comedy nerd, it's neat to hear Tom Hanks talk about comedy -- even, at one point, mentioning Mitzi Shore and the Comedy Store. (1:18:55)
Thanks Mr. Pollack. A formidable Kevin, indeed! ;)
This episode will go down in KPCS history. Fantastic!
This will definitely burst many people's bubbles:

Tom Hanks is exactly as Tom Hanks as you want him to be.
Talented man, Tom Hanks. Chris Rock said that Tom Hanks was THE funniest standup comic among many comics, while Hanks was appearing in clubs in preparation for his role in Punchline.
They should have included those funny parts in the movie.
Larry Miller, underrated comedy technician.
My daily dose of Kevin...and I appreciate his intelligence and cuteness.....
speaking of intelligence..........I once heard a speech given by Tom that was so intellectual.......I couldn't understand him..and it was magnificent.
This was fantastic. Thanks for this episode.
I haven't watched them all yet, but I can't imagine any better interview on KPCS! Hanks is just so freakin' cool...and so funny!
Great show. What a ridiculously talented guy.
Home run guys! Just a great show! - thanks!
This is sooo good! As were the Larry David and Steve Merchant interviews. Don't know how I missed these podcasts...
Thank you, thank you, thank you Kevin! For announcing the ads yourself and not loading up the screen with cheese. Just for that, I will on my own volition check out your sponsors. You sir, possess the lost art of mojo.
cards against humanity is sold out
Best episode ever. TY Tom and KP
Best KPCS so far. I hated to see this one end. PLEASE get Tom back for a second interview. That was a great 2 hours and 42 minutes.
great interview Kevin.
Ireland calling here - great show Kevin - thanks for the best interview with Tom Hanks I've ever seen to be honest!
I found Thom Hanks so enjoyable to just see and listen to! And this was the best "who tweeted" yet! Would you not agree?
Watched this four times. Superb.
This is one of the best interviews period !!! I had thought his 2 interviews on inside the actors studio were awesome; but this is much better; it truly is a must see; have a PBR and watch.

didn't see this until 2019, still golden.

this is a great interview, i like that its long and interesting , yes typing class
was a god send
The picture of Jan & Dean is great. And ohhh Motown! *applause*
Tom is a great guy. Hands down one of my favorite people ever
Nate Hamann I agree 100%!
What an infinite well of grace, respect, humility, and comedy is stored in Mr. Hanks. He's about as present and honest and playful as a person can be. One of my favorite actors!
He dropped an "Opie Cunningham" ... Classic !!!
How has it taken me this long to discover this show. Fantastic! Of course I did choose this Tom Hanks episode for my first one soooo the other episodes have a very tough act to follow. Subscribed.
I usually don't try to rank this but this might be the best episode this show so far and I've been watching from the first one.
The Burbs is my fav Hanks movie. I quote it hourly and it’s simply a hysterical, clever, fun wonderful movie. Thank you Mr.Hanks for a lifetime of laughs. You are truly a national treasure.
Julie Oakman we got em neighbor
Fantastic. I could listen to two hours just on Road to Perdition.
Amazing interview. Kevin, you rocked it again.
I sat through that for over two hours . . . and it was freak'n awesome. Thanks Kev.
Love Tom Hanks! *applause* great show Kevin *thumbs up*
One of the reasons why Hanks is a national treasure. He’ll be remembered as one of the tops.
Great interview. Thank you. Need to find Bosom Buddies...
New to the KPCS.. I'm feelin it!
Kevin, I never knew you did excellent impersonations! Bing Crosby and Chris Walken!!! Perfect.
He's been doing them since the 80s
Tom is so easy going and down to earth plays a big part in the movie roles he is offered because movie directors tend to avoid difficult arrogant actors
Tom Hanks isn't just a good actor, but a nice guy. Why can't there be more people like this guy in Hollywood.
Tom Hanks isn't a good actor , but he is a nice guy.
mano fiske Nobody asked you for your opinion on his ability to act.
Damn he didn't waste any time getting to Tom Hanks. Great interview.
1:07:37 according to wiki Vaughn Meader flew to Milwaukee (not Detroit like Tom says here, twice) when he had the conversation with the cab driver

I keep saying this for just about all of these, but this one fits the bill as well. Beautiful work cast, crew, and guest. You all did a good. :)
I'm sorry I gotta say I love Money Pit and The Burbs. Tom Hanks' finest moments!
Matthew Conti The Burbs is my fav. Every character, every line.
Best line in the burbs: when the kid drives his garbage from his garage to the street- Tom hanks says : I’ve never seen that I’ve never seen that before lol
wow when I found this I thought it was an old interview but this is just a month ago! THANKS
Tom hanks is an excellent actor Perfect Forever Fantastic ❤️💯❤️💯❤️
@tomhanks
#TomHanks
Tom's a good guy. Damn talented.
Kevin gets better in this interview, but Tom can make anyone look good. Thanks bud..signed a Pabst drinking Canadian.
Fireball XL-5, Star Trek, Apollo 13, "thought behind the eyes", "man of bitter compromise", singing Holly Jolly Xmas... so many reasons i love that man.
happiness is telling the truth.
Best KPCS guest Ever!!!! Tom Hanks is such a nice & interesting person..
That was the most fun I've had in a long time with my pants on. Tom is hilarious, down to earth and clever.
Subscribed. This interview was more entertaining than most movies I've seen. Other than Tom Hanks movies, of course. ;)
Thank you!! This was great!!
Tom Hanks is so hilarious when he's just being himself on a talk show and/or chat show.
Outstanding show!
Do you not agree....that Mr Hanks puts on a clinic of how to be an interviewee. What a guy.
Late to the party (just found Chat)... Pollack you're a genius great show/idea. Much success to you.
