This tool-assisted speedrun by Swordless Link (me) & Tompa aims to beat The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons in as little a time as possible.
It was made on an emulator, using frame-by-frame shooting, savestates, and rerecords to overcome things like reaction time and human error. As such, it is purely a form of entertainment, and is not designed to show skill.
This is Tompa's TH-cam channel: / tomtelala Be sure to subscribe to it if you enjoyed this run.
BrandonE from TASVideos was nice enough to encode this run for us. Be sure to check out and subscribe to his channel: / brandman211
This TAS is the result of years of hard work on the game. The game is not as simple as it may appear. Enemies are extremely tedious to manipulate without costing time, and there has to consistently be enough pegasus seed drops to be able to run around optimally.
This run was made by me and Tompa. It should not be uploaded without first getting permission from us.
Any anti-TAS comments will be deleted. Seriously, if you're just going to call it "cheating" or something equally ridiculous, don't even bother commenting at all, because I'll just block you. Save us both a bit of time.
The actual publication of the movie can be found here: will link to this when it's published

Alien Teacher: This is Link. He is an average human. *plays video*
Alien Students: *screams in fear*
Link: "lemme just shimmy across these giant holes real quick"
I love how he just walks across these huge gaps at points. TAS videos are the sickest things.
That Rosa section was HILARIOUS.
Thanks for this run, I just played this game for the first time a few weeks ago and couldn't put it down--seriously one of my favorite Zelda games (and I prefer it much more than Ages).
"Pits? Oh, is _that_ what the black tiles are supposed to be?"
You know its TAS when at 4:16 he selects "No" xD
this is my favorite zelda, i've finished like 8 times. thank's man to show us your artistic TAS, it's amazing you're a boss
9:36 clicks the sword to the music :D
MasterRambo Yeah, hilarious! :D
Had to LOL, too.
I've been so excited for an oracle's TAS! Great work!
I've long been looking forward to this TAS! Cheers to you and Tompa, two people who have many a time blown my mind when I should have been doing math homework.
I've been following this for a long while now, great work guys!
This is a really entertaining TAS, great work Tompa and Swordless! I'll be keeping my eye out for the Ages game!
20:08
*Wow, he just got destroyed.*
Let's be honest, Blaino is an ass to beat quickly. He's got a lot of different patterns.
pretty basic though. Unfortunately, there's no way any human could perform 2:57
Lol that was comically quick
35:00 is the epitome of TASing
Greg d'Eon LoL was the digging just because? They missed some dug up ore chunks
@@Allstin He was signing his username initials, SL (Swordless Link)
Greg d'Eon this is unbelivable
@@Saiavinn I had to rewatch the first two screens of the stealth segment to see that. Unbelievable!
@@AndrewBlechinger Let it never be said that TASers don't take immense enjoyment in what they do~
That was truly awesome, tons of great tricks in the run ^^
i´m very proud to be a friend with tompa :)
awesome run, nothing more to add, and i´m happy to read that there will be a Oracle of Ages run too.
thank you so much Swordlesslink and tompa for this masterwork!!
I love that god damned kangaroo.
Amazing as always!
1:09
So a tornado can throw a whole bunch of people... but not a bonfire that's not on fire!?
the absolute BRAZENESS during the Strange Brother's segment was cathartic, I had such a hard time with them as a kid.
Rock on bro! Waiting forever for this. ^__________^ You're the best!
Very nicely done, I know that this one in particular took a LOT of work.
So much work must've gone into this and I have to say that this is one of the most impressive runs of any Zelda game I've ever seen. From what I know, this is the only older Zelda game where you have to complete every dungeon to finish the game (I say this because this game's predecessor, Link's Awakening and even more recently OoT have glitches that make the run time ridiculously low.) Great job, you two, and I know that my comment/view/like is a few months late, but it's only because I didn't
Congrats on finishing this awesome TAS SL and Tompa :) Now I know what my next segmented run is going to be :P
That was really beautiful. Well done
9:20 There's nothing more entertaining than a TAS with dead time to kill.
Some day is good enough for me! When it comes, I'll be excited to see it. In the meantime, good luck with your current endeavors, I'm sure I'll enjoy seeing those as well.
YES. My favorite Zelda game of all time. Thank you!
How awesomely coincidental! I was just looking for a tas of this game last night. Lo and Behold, it's first on TASvideos the next day.
Good job gentleman, I am really proud of you guys, can't wait for OoA
You made an excellent work, thank you! :)
it's these moments that makes me really enjoy speed run, also when they dance to the tune
You guys are amazing! I never finished the game myself because i got stuck and I was too proud to look up how to beat the game. I still can't understand how you could jump so accurately. Is that even possible for a human beeing? It looked insane!
It’s a Tool-Assisted Speedrun, so it’s basically being done by a computer so the inputs are all frame-perfect
@Tomtelala Awesome :) I look forward to it.
So this is what happens if an ADHD Link is given too much coffee in the morning.
Karuuhnia Hate to bump, but caffeine plus ADHD depends on the person. For me, mellows me out.
I have ADHD and I agree
Dang, now I want to drink tons of caffeine to see what would happen to me.
@@davidrossington9756 depends on the person
Stimulants actually have to opposite effect on us.
The epic-ness of 9:30 all the way through if it worked in real life though XD
I like how it reveals that Rosa isn't looking for you while she's moving.
Perfect!
Always been expecting TAS run for this one,Oracle of Age should be more complex...
I find it awesome that you guys replied to me and so fast. Thanks for that.
2:58 wtf how did you do that?? xD
It will take a long time before that run is finished though. I made it up to the end of the first dungeon but I'll need to redo it because of some new discoveries. Also the fact that I have other TAS projects I'm focusing more on.
But it will come some day :).
@Wolsk If you go to the website TASvideos, go to the bottom of the page and you'll see the Oracle of Seasons submission. By clicking that you can read our comments, explaining stuff from the movie and such.
Really cool job ;)
ive never seen a playthrough of OoS, but im super into OOT speedruns (and lightly running it myself), so when this was reccommended to me i though it would be a good laugh, i was right, immediately when i saw how the dungeon item was displayed and the fact that the first boss is a dragon i said "wow there sure are a lot of links awakaning references in this zelda 1 speedrun" XD, loved every second
Why do people think TASes are cheating? I think they're fun to watch and very helpful to speedrunners to learn glitches and strats for real time runs
+realimbored668 Because TAS allows players to do things no normal player can't, an example is the player making Link walk over pits and never fall. Because the player is doing things like that, a person with a short mind assumes "HEY I COULD NEVER DO THAT! YOU'RE CHEATING!". Sadly no matter how many TAS's are out there and put a disclaimer as big as the persons computer screen saying no cheats or anything were involved, people will still believe it's cheating.
+SuperMissile Yeah people suck
Some people get TASing but if someone does a TASed run claiming it’s a real run than it’s looked down apon
This was always my favorite of the oracle games.
We covered most things in the submission at least. But if you have any other questions about the run, I'll gladly answer.
I just beat this game around an hour ago.
It took me a week, it just took you an hour and forty minutes.
Well, it did take us many months to make this Tool Assisted Speedrun. So don't feel bad =).
You may now have a cookie.
Diktator Alexander it took me 8 years
This and your Link's Awakening TAS are probably my favorites to watch. Ever. Are you going to do an Oracle of Ages TAS in the future? If so, I can't wait. :D
Seasons is MUCH more difficult than ages, but more fun
@NathanWubs The Ages run will be on the Second Quest.
I like how he moves diagonally right to the point, not wasting any time cutting corners lol
Ce jeu c'est toute mon enfance! C'est mon second jeu et j'en garde un précieux souvenir !
@MaskedKirby Oops, my very bad. It has been fixed now. Thanks for pointing out!
@UnknownHazard95 We will be working on OoA as well, correct. It will most likely also be a linked game.
@ghyprh The plan is to start a linked run with Oracle of Ages. Possibly using the password recieved from this run, but we still haven't planned it out yet.
Move over Artorias, Abysswalker Link is here to finish where you failed
Lol
In LA/DX and the Oracle games you can walk on the border between two pit tiles, but it's VERY hard to do in real time, so that's why you only see it in TASes and not live speedruns
Epic!
I am amazed!
Laughed through all of the first encounter with Rosa that was awesome
I read these comments basically daily, so I'll answer pretty quickly =).
If you have further questions, feel free to ask!
Amazingly done.
I love the way you follow the people when you are sneaking around (it made me laugh pretty hard).
Also, HOW DO YOU WALK ACROSS THE PITS? :OOO
Could someone explain me what's the fundamental differences between the Link's Awakening engine and the Oracle's.
We need words to the Song of Storms. I'll start us off with a few.
"Herp-a-derp, herp-a-derp, herrrrp, a-derp-a-derp-a-derrrrp, herp-a-derp-a-derrrrp, herp-a-derp-a-derrrrrp......."
It's too hard on console, as you have to alter pressing left and right 30 times/second. The input used in the TAS goes like this for each frame while moving upwards: left, none, right, none, left, none etc. Can also be done by pressing, left, right, left, right and so on.
While it is doable in theory, no one will really be able to do it because of the precise timing needed.
It's a pitwalking glitch, which is TAS only. So just ignore that if you are playing through the game normally =).
Thanks I like reading the author's comments for his submission.
Best old memories
Yes, we are. I started the run awhile ago, but I have to restart it because of new discoveries.
While it will be linked, it won't be using this save. One reason is that you'll keep the same animal, and Dimitri is a lot faster than Ricky. I used a password generator program to find a good password that is fast to write in, will get the right animal as well as the right password for other items; upgraded sword for example.
@CrazyGameNerd Yeah, I know that the second boss can be improved. I realized that too long after it was finished however and fixing stuff earlier in the run usually causes a desync for various reasons.
Your fight is also improveable by the way. But thanks for pointing out, even though it is way too late :D.
Even though this is a speedrun, the way Link walks makes it look really casual :P
Maple appearing depends on how many enemies you have killed. We just didn't kill enough enemies for her to appear there.
WOOO WE LOVE UUU
No Oracle of Ages? Waiting in anticipation, guys. :)
An Ages TAS has been started though, but not by us. I'm not sure if they are still working on it or not, as it has been a few months since the last update.
You can find information about it here: tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=383190#383190
@danny234555 We plan to do this with the Oracle of Ages TAS we are going to start now when this is finished.
following people without being seen was the best parts. SL ftw!
when do you figure Ages will be finished? stoked to watch it be done! are you doing a linked game as well?
@1010Clarke We are planning on doing Ages too, yes.
You record your input frame by frame (60 frames/second usually) and while doing so you do indeed use multiple save states, you save all the time and load as soon as you make a mistake/want to testing something etc.).
Everything done in a TAS is theoretical possible to replicate on console. Though there are no human being who is that precise with the inputs. So pretty much what a perfect run would look like if it could be perfect.
I've started the OoA run as well (Will be a linked game), though the progress has been very slow lately as I'm mainly focusing on TASing A Link to the Past and Swordless hasn't had much TAS interest lately.
Progress is the end of the first dungeon.
The statement is still correct. If you would repeat the same input you would get the same RNG.
Real time speedruns are actually manipulating the RNG in Oracle of Ages runs, to have Maple drop a Magic Potion as well as digging up 100 rupees (twice).
To get Moosh you have to buy the flute in the village. Doing that would be a huge waste of time, also for the fact that Moosh isn't faster than Ricky.
Dimitri would be the fastest one to use. However, you would have to win the flute in the Subrosian Dance. Which means you have to dance twice as the boomerang is always first.
Sticking with Ricky is then a lot faster than the other two options.
I like to think that General Onox is the physical form of dysentery in the beginning.
YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT TO OREGON, DIN
30:29 oh my god that was so awesome.
2 new Zelda TAS runs from Swordless Link in 2 days? Sweet. Do you plan on doing Ages as well at some point?
Swordless Link, Y U SO GOOD?!
Even way back in 2001, Hidemaro Fujibayashi was making Zelda games where everything was prolonged for no good reason.
King Crimson? This explains the TAS.
i remember oracle of ages took me more than 4 years lol, i lost it when i was still stuck in a dungeon.
FINALLY GODDAMNIT
Nice run TAS. But I already running last 3 month ago on secret mode.
Yes.
You got mad skills...
You could have saved time in 38:00 by using the Mushroomglitch so that you can grab the chicken trough the rocks from the left and basically glitching through a couple of pixels.
Isn't the true ending of this game actually a fight against Gannon??
Izicial A half-ressurected Ganon. A mindless raging beast instead of a more imposing villain that we are used to seeing.
I had no idea he was doing everything and hitting his sword to the music! hahaha
Awesome Game, Awesome TAS...
and awesome top comment lol
Hey, is there a way to play Gameboy Color games on a NDS Lite R4?
Awesome! You guiys ever going to do a Oracle of Ages run? Personally I liked Ages alot better than Seasons.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME FIND ONE OF THE LEGEND OF ZELDA "AGES" i need help beating it..
When you walk between two pits you'll constantly be pulled into one of them. But if you keep walking forwards while you push against that hole, you can make it across.
The input required is to alter pressing left and right every second frame. Impossible to do in real time.
