    What a beautiful guitar. And a great video. Had no idea polishing the fretboard made such a difference!

    Bro, your noise gate is brutal. Sick guitar, btw.

      Yeah, sorry about that. I had a lot of issues with noise in my house that day and I'm still learning how to use the virtual gates in my video editor

    I am considering getting this guitar but read reviews about strings buzzing in the 12th 14th frets. Did you experience such issue? Did the setup help with this issue if you had this issue?

    • @nathansguitars328
      @nathansguitars328  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most fret buzz can be fixed with a "set up". If it's only buzzing at a couple locations, that's probably a high or low fret. Doing a full fret level and crown is a bit more involved than what most call a setup, but still fixable.
      Mine has very low action without any buzz issues. More so than my other guitars, this one has needed a few truss rod adjustments... probably just because it's a 7 string.
      I would say if you're unable to play/see it first, try to get one made in Korea. I've had nothing but minor issues with the LTD made in Indonesia lately. This one included. I've got a minor split in the fingerboard. It doesn't affect playability or anything, but it's unsightly.

      sadly not many music shops in my area and travelling can be troublesome. Played this guitar a year ago and still thinking about it and want to get it for my birthday. Will keep in mind your comment when I go and visit the store in the coming week or 2
      thanks for the detailed comment, much appreciated. cheers!@@nathansguitars328

    Hi,
    I have this guitar but only six string, brand new. I noticed at home that my fingers were dirty from strings (frets). Some area of strings are rusty, fretboard has crack like lines all over. Is this common for this type of wood?
    Why is this if I bought it brand new from a store (I waited six months to arrive)??? Why did you clean and polish yours if its new? Thank you.

      @NathanMichalik 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. It's fairly normal for guitars to be 'dirty' even when they are brand new. Most guitars travel very long ways to get to us. During the travel they often get dirty. I wouldn't say rust on strings or actual cracks are normal though. Some grain is visible in macassar ebony and it can look cracked to some. If you're concerned, bring it up with the store or post photos online to see if it looks 'normal'.
      What I did was more than just a cleaning too. Polishing the frets and fingerboard make them incredibly smooth. They don't really do this from the factory, so it's a nice step if you enjoy the look of a shiny fretboard.

      @nathansguitars328  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not too sure. The oldest gutiar I have that I've polished is about 8 years and still looks great. I assume you wouldn't ever "need" to do it again and they don't seem to lose much shine!

      @@nathansguitars328 Really? That's amazing. What about larger fretboard inlays? I bought a Jackson RR24 and would love to get it's fingerboard to be shiny and smoothe like that but I'm a bit leary of damaging it.. Its in neat mint condition btw...

    • @nathansguitars328

      @@yardenmor-avi9765 I've done it to all my Alexi Laiho signature models which have large inlays. The only difference is they get SUPER glossy compared to the wood. I think using micromesh, it would be very difficult to 'damage' anyways other than maybe the frets. Just go slow, take your time, and don't apply a ton of pressure. Also, I know some RR24 are rosewood. I've never tried these methods on rosewood, but I'd assume it still works.

      @nathansguitars328  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yardenmor-avi9765 You'd probably want to tape the frets with masking tape. You tape them up, than use a blade to cut at the base of the fret so the tape only covers the frets. I would say if you aren't comfortable with any of this, you should just take it to a professional.

  • @BA99253

    Wouldn’t it be super hard to damage nickel frets with that high of grit? Or are you just trying to avoid re polishing the frets when your done with the board?

    • @nathansguitars328
      @nathansguitars328  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, all things considered, nickel alloy frets are very soft for metal. The lower grit micromesh pads are certainly enough to cause some profile/height adjustments if you aren't careful. All in all, yes, it's mostly to avoid having to completely re-polish the frets though. if you are careful, you'll only 'need' to use the last two pads on your frets.

    if i did this before putting frets in would it affect the radius or fret slots at all

    • @nathansguitars328
      @nathansguitars328  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you start with very high grit, it shouldn't take anywhere near enough material away to effect the radius. It's more a polish than it is sanding. It would be way easier doing it before installing frets too! You can even use a radius block if you are concerned. They are 'cheap' and would probably give you a more consistent finish.
      For fret slots, I would just blown them out with compressed air when you are done to make sure they are clean. Ideally, just radius and polish before cutting fret slots.

      Man I know! I hate that I don't like them, but I just cannot get into the sound. It just sounds and feels so sterile or something, I don't know how to explain it. I did swap them with an EMG 81x60x set with an AB boost and really dig the sound. I ordered a set of SD Blackouts to try as well since I've never tried the 7 string version.

      Thanks for the reply. Do you think the guitar is worth the money? Its around 1290 eur currently. Aesthetically looking I think this coloring is very interesting - first impression is “jeez, thats ugly” but that turns around quickly into “no other guitar doesnt look as good as this” :)

    • @nathansguitars328
      @nathansguitars328  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vinylftw It's hard to say. Converting USD to EUR, I only paid about 860 eur for mine. 1300 eur is close to E-II money here in the USA. It's one of my favorite guitars these days. I thought it was kind of ugly when they were announced in 2020, but it seriously grew on me and once they added stainless steel frets, it was a no-brainer. I've never played a better 7 string and don't see myself selling this one anytime soon. It's the longest running fixed bridge guitar in my collection. I'd happily buy another if they released a FR version. I've been fighting the urge to buy a second hand E-II M-II 7 NT even.
      I did swap the pickups though. I wish I liked them, but the Fishman Modern set just aren't for me.
