Thank you so much, not just for playin g her delightful rendition of the Romberg song, but to illustrate it with such lovely photographs. I have been in love with her voice since I was about 12, listening to my parents records of Marco Pol and Kismet. That was 60 years ago. Her voice can make a bad day seem suddenly bright; it still has the power to heal and enchant.
Hi Michael! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video and the lovely voice of Doretta Morrow. She had a unique and captivating voice. A true soubrette with a fuller range. I do wish she had recorded more extensively. But alas she retired from performing at the age of 33 and so very sadly died at 41. She is one of my very favorites in the musical theatre, operetta genre. Doretta Morrow and Barbara Cook: It doesn't get any better than that!
Thank you so much for uploading this clip of the lovely Doretta Morrow singing this beautiful song. I grew up in the 60s listening to my father's records for all of Sigmund Roberg's operettas, and his show tunes including my favorite, which is Kismet. I love the sound of her singing.
I'm so very glad that you enjoyed this recording. You might be interested in two of my other remastered Doretta Morrow recordings: "Stranger In Paradise" (from the beautiful KISMET) and also a lesser known song, "You'll Be Seeing Me." It's from the written for TV musical MARCO POLO. All the very best!
Doretta Morrow. I heard the song well, the movie that I starred in with Mario Lanza, the movie that I injoyed watching Because You're Mine in the East See, and listening to the song is another attraction.
Not many sopranos can sing this song and do it justice. Only a handful. Ms. Morrow delivers. I think Romberg deliberately wrote a "big" song, to live up to the title theme, and challenge any singer who would attempt it. Alas, "romance" is dead today. Long live Romberg.
A brilliant voice ! Such a tragedy that she died at only 41 years in 1968 ! Thank God we have these recordings.
A favorite of my mother’s.
What a gorgeous voice.

The purest of voices and Romberg. The most one can expect this side of Heaven.
