I couldnt fine a video on how to remove this style of cooler, I was afraid I was going to break my motherboard! This video was very well done mate! Thank you!
Yeah me too, i m affraid of breaking the mb, and i had asus p8h61 mobo with silverstone kr03 cooler with this type clips. And thanks for saving the day mann i really like and i will add some subscribers man
@@PapaMav i had to put so much pressure to get the second clip on the hook i was scared i was going to break the CPU or motherboard. Mike made it look like a piece of piss. Only buy screw mounting method coolers now. although the AIO coolers with this hook method are a lot easier as they use thumb screws.
thank you! I couldnt´find anywhere how to install these type of clip, thought I couldn´t reuse an old cooler I had (was using it for intel) but now I can on am4
Tip, get the first clip on, but don't tighten one black mobo piece fully. Makes the 2nd clip much easier then do the final tighten. Took me an hour tryna get a Prism RGB on until I found that one nugget lmao
I use Antec A400 RGB and I am very satisfied, I easily fitted it into the board. Now when it comes to removing it from the board, it is very difficult and you have to remove it very carefully because one small mistake can damage the cooler.
Mike on my gigabyte b660m Aorus Pro ax I can't hook up the upper clip due to little to no gap between VRM heat sink and intel CPU bracket. Is there anyway to work around?
Currently using ag200, clip style. When trying to remove the cooler, the processor just flew off with it 🤣 luckily i was holding it so it but i was worried of bent pins bc the processor is now angled against the socket. Luckily i was able to pull it out and no bent pins. By any chance, can i just loosen the bracket from the mb before unclipping the cooler? Im thinking i can wiggle it a bit with that method for a safer removal.
Thanks mate. But I'm trying to install Deepcool AG300 (same clip style) on Intel 1150 chipset & problem is that they've provided a plastic mount with pushpins (like stock Intel) I dont know if I put it on desk like you did then the huge pressure to install it, can damage the pushpins at the back. But if I install it on motherboard when it's fixed in case then it's bending it. So both are risky. Please tell me what should I do.
hi mike how do i even install the cooler with spring clips for an intel processor, im using over 50kg of pressure and its still not going in the latch and im worried the cpu or mobo will break

Hello. Some coolerboxes have their own backplate for the motherboard (rear backplate and bracket on top). Other coolerboxes are compatible with the mobo's own factory backplate. If the coolerbox has its own backplate, is it recommended to use it instead of the mobo's factory default backplate? Could the different backplates, even if they are compatible, influence the pressure that the coolerbox will put on the processor after it is installed? Regardless of which coolerbox model is easier to install, which model do you think can put better pressure on the processor in AMD's AM4 socket? The models with pressure screws or metal latches like the model in your video above? Could excessive pressure cause damage to the processor pins or socket pins (Intel)? This is my fear when installing coolerboxes with locks. With screws you have more idea of the pressure being exerted on the processor. A video abaount this would be important.
gamers nexus have done pressure tests on coolers for pressure and flatness, it does seem to differ between units but doesn't drastically change the performance unless it is exceptionally uneven or poorly tensioned
Does anyone know of any decent tower style clip-on coolers sold on Amazon that have RGB? I have my Ryzen cooler on and it looks nice but wonder if there's anything better and quieter out there.
Is there any work around to convert this shitty latch mode to normal screw lock in this air cooler? Im thinking of buying deepcool gammaxx 400xt mounting kit and drill 1 hole in the middle of 2 screwhole on the cooler Is it ok?
My preferred CPU mounting system to be honest. Granted I've only experienced 4 types over the years. The old intel style clip-ons with two large flaps/levers on top. Intel's current push-pin. Screwing in directly, much like the current Wraith-style. And this one.
@@mikesunboxing Tips on installing Intel stock cooler: 1) don't use it; 2) replace it with a cooler that does not use those dopey push pins. *I have come across a vid where someone used nylon screws and washers of different sizes to mount an Intel stock cooler after removing the push pin mechanisms. The trick of that is getting the mounting pressure correct and not too great or too little.
@@PapaMav Aye... I've seen the nylon push-pins on Arctic's Alpine 12. (Not the passive one). They're a massive P.I.T.A. to work with due to the fragility of them, with the pressure required to connect. Bought it for a i5-2400 on a Lenovo H61 mATX. Push-pins didn't like the mobo. So I went for a german brand (inter-tech) that is of the AMD Spring Clip variety, and an included intel-kit with backplate and all. (Inter-Tech Argus SU-200. The 200B variant, screws on the mobo directly, I believe)
This cooler design is junk. I saw one on sale for $40 AUD here in Australia. Thermaltake uses the same system. Installing it with your method certainly makes it easier. If I follow the instructions and install it that way it bends the motherboard. I don't think this has the best mounting surface either as it runs as hot as the stock prism cooler and after removing it i can see the paste does not spread evenly. Noctua has the only decent mounting system.
I don't care how tight your budget is. DO NOT install a clip mounted cooler. It's just too much risk damaging the cpu when removing it. Even when you heated the cooler and wiggled it around. I speak of sad experience. Now I have to remove it again with a replacement cpu and the pure idea of doing so is terryfing me 😂 Do as I say not as I do, I guess 😂 I hate myself for cheaping out twice in a row (as cheap as a new cpu can be lol)
I would like to remove de cooler in that way, but the designer is a sadistic and there's no literally space to pull down that metalic part because the intel adapter

You can do it!
@paalo I'm w/ya M8. My preference is the mouting that uses screws.

And a really nice bonus showing the thermalpaste spread.

Mike's How to is Worthy of a Support comment & a Like 🙂
Thanks buddy appreciate it
I just bought a cpu cooler and then I have no idea how to install thank you so much for the information
glad it helped
Whoever made this design deserves to be fired. What a ridiculous way of installing a cooler.
istg this is the shittiest cooler clip on design
everytime you install the cooler, cpu lifetime decrease %5🤣
Thanks for explaining not only how to install but also how to remove!
Hope it helps you , these can be a pain but careful use and understanding goes a long way to make it easy and safe
great video, please how do you remove the intel based one, the circular one with just clips to the motherboard and no screws
Should just unscrew from the sides if I remember correctly
Thanks man. I wasted a lot of time doing it by myself. Glad I found your video. Turns out I had to force it a little bit.
Glad I could help
Another great educational video from the on-line IT University of MUB in Bristol. Thanks Mike.

Well upgrading my CPU, I couldn’t physically remove the cooler, so I just removed the brackets. Cooler came right off!

Good video Mike👍 Always feared damaging cpu using clip on fans back in the day! But that was due to lack of knowledge sadly. Smart looking cooler 👍
Glad to help, and hopefully your fears are no longer a stopping point from getting a snowman 😁
My weak thumbs had a rough time trying to remove it. I just unscrewed the plastic thing.
completely helped me, same situation as I had a really small cooler which left so much room to extend. Never had the same problem for other coolers.

not really, space is tight might need some careful manipulation

support the centre where the cpu is with a small block of wood or plastic to raise it up a little from the desk

Not sure sorry probably need some pictures of the setup to see what is going on
Helpful video , thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I had to unscrew the brackets as much as I could and then I screwed them back slightly again, but I'm afraid it's pushing a lot against the processor.

glad it helped you
You made that look easy, but it can be so awkward.
Lol thanks I have had a lot of practice
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Is there any possibility to harm the cpu or the mobo while removing these type of coolers?
not really unless you are very rough with it or let the motherboard flex too much
Very helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks mate very helpful:)
No problem 👍
Gotta love spring mounts, especially on a legend that is the Snowman. Thanks for the video :-)
the snowman is a great cooler if bought at the right price, but seen them going up and up recently

Does this mounting style apply even pressure across the whole chip compared to the 4 stand off method?
no the mounting pressure is pretty uneven
best of all.
Thanks🙏
