The length of the handle is really up to you. Providing you Don't make it too long. I think my handle is about 18 inches long, 16 to 20 should give you plenty of cutting power & still be good for throwing. Start off with the longer & try it. You can always shorten it if it does not suit. Regards, Keith.
This was fantastic Keith. I needed the finer tips for learning this. I've thrown a couple times but didn't know how to judge the distance. Excellent video mate thank you
Totally agree, the "heroes" are no longer Daniel Boone or Davy Crocket, they are fictional characters with super powers that no child can ever attain. They no longer learn living skills, they learn computer skills. A sad day for the humane race. Fortunately I brought my boys up in the woods, they learnt to make fire with a flint & steel & could throw a tomahawk before the age of 10 years. Hopefully they will bring their children up the same way. Take care. Regards, Keith.
I love, love, love these videos and I loved your article in the latest edition of Backwoodsman. You're a lucky man, Keith H. Burgess. Your blog mentions that you've authored some books. What are the titles? Thanks.
I went out camping for 3 days recently. I carried my tomahawk. When we got to our camp site my buddy said, "hey man, see if you can throw your tomahawk into that tree". I took it out and threw it. Surprisingly I stuck it in every single time. Turns out Im quite good at it and ive never even tried it before.
Henry, there are a lot to choose from. I suggest you go for the plainest round poll tomahawk you can get, weight of head about one pound. Where do you live Henry? Regards, Keith.
As a child, having read the books of James Fenimore Cooper, I also threw an ax, bow. Sorry now the children do not play near the Indians. The computer has replaced a live game.
Thanks Joe. I was born in England, moved to Australia as a young man. America was my first choice, but they did not want me, so I came here. Regards, Keith.
Sir, It looks to me like you have found the thing you are good at. Most folks spend a lifetime for this but never do. I don't blame you one bit for not regretting your move.
