- HD Kumaraswamy, known as the 'kingmaker' of Karnataka politics, served as Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2018 to 2019 and from 2006 to 2007. He is contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Mandya constituency, which his son Nikhil lost to actor Sumalatha in 2019.
The son of former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, HD Kumaraswamy is also a Kannada film producer and actor. He has produced several successful Kannada films, including 'Chandra Chakori', which ran for an impressive 365 days in theatres. In 2016, his banner also produced his son's debut movie, 'Jaguar'.
In the latest episode of the ANI podcast with Smita Prakash, HDK sheds light on his alliance with the BJP and his past connections with the Gandhi family. He dismisses Congress' accusations of being the BJP's 'B-team'. He also talks about his father's relationship with PM Modi and how it influenced both parties to ally.
HDK touches on the topic of succession within the party and who will lead after Deve Gowda. The former Chief Minister of Karnataka denies allegations of JD(S) merging with the BJP after the 2024 polls. I’m from Karnataka Belgaum district getting clearance for passport from police station to getting education loan in bank, registration of new land, taking treatment in government hospital everything is corrupted. Very minimal, just by margin. Let's say 5% in loksabha and around 10% in assembly election. Last time it was more due to failure of state BJP that congress came to power. People only thought BJP is bad but they didn't know worst is yet to come. So only 4-5 seats are there in interior Karnataka where education and development both did not reach as much as other parts of Karnataka, which is close contest, where freebies might work.

We have a World class airport but third class infrastructure and other amenities. Potholed Roads, overflowing drains, stinking Garbage, overhead cables dangling dangerously, no footpaths or pedestrian amenities. Fix these problems.

Probably couldn’t articulate it better but when Smitha ji asked about “Parivarvaad” HDK gave a pretty decent answer. He mentioned about new party leaders when groomed don’t retain with the party. The current chief minister Siddaramaiyya was not a vokkaliga (HDKs caste) but was groomed by JDS. He left the party and joined congress. The problem with these regional parties is that once a non family leader grows within these regional parties, they look for power and these small parties might not win all elections. So these leaders hop on to parties which will give them power. Hence the people who stick on are the family members out of necessity to make the party survive. This is different from “Parivarvaad”.

JDU and JDS both are facing crisis of existence. Now a part
of both the parties have joined BJP and another part have joined leading opposition party in each of the States. Both the parties (JDU & JDS) have made alliance with BJP without the approval of a large part of their supporters. I've lived in Bangalore for years...during the kumaraswamy years, we have heard that he used to have a daily amount that he needed to make...remember when nikhil gowda went and got into a fight at Empire while driving that yellow Hummer he had? He was what 18?19? He got away, I heard, because of Congress and pressure on the police...all that said, i don't believe there is a single clean politician in that state...all of them are essentially real estate people who make policy depending on who pays how much for the land that family owns...if it comes down to choosing between modi and pappu...I'd still go with Modi...but don't tell me that politicians in Karnataka exist who are clean lol
