When I saw them riding on the beach, my eye caught an oddly shaped island in the background, which looked like the Torch from the Statue of Liberty.

Also that heavy piano melody from the first film as they're heading towards the beach.

Really? I thought it was a bit heavy handed lol. The subtle callback I enjoyed the most was the updated musical score from the original ‘68 film being used in different parts of Kingdom.

Great retrospect! I'm 62 and grew up with the originals being played on TV as special annual marathons. We made plans for a night of snacks and Heston (a favorite of ours). Happy memories in our orange shag carpet, wood paneled & bean bag chairs basement.

Yeah, my wife doesn't understand why I love this so much. I was like when I was a kid. It came on all day on TV s on Christmas and it was hosted by a Doctor Zaius type monkey.... When you're like 8 9 10 and haven't seen any of these movies and they're on every Christmas all day for the Christmas with the Apes marathon, you're gonna grow up loving them.

@@TerribleTakeagreed. One cannot honestly look at the original series and say it’s better when the second movie was easily the worst movie ever made, and the remaining films though interesting story-wise, skimped on visuals and basically used masks over the realistic prosthetics of the first film. (Edit: I typed this before watching this video lol. Didn’t mean to repeat what he said.)
First original was the best stand-alone PotA movie. The reboot series is the better series by far. And I’d even say that Dawn was one of the best films I’ve ever seen, though it needs Rise for proper context.

I had some of the Mego action figures in the 70s. But by the time I finally got Lizard and was ready for him to take of Spiderman, I'd broken my Spiderman. So poor Cornelius got his head pulled off and replaced with Peter Parker's head and outfit. Cornelius died so Peter Parker could take on Curt Connors.

    Taylor's line,
    "G**damn you all to Hell,"
    was at Heston's insistence.
He argued that after playing this character for months, he was singularly qualified to know how Taylor would react.
He also justified the use of the profanity as, "Not a curse word, but rather a prayer to God, literally asking Him to damn the men responsible, to Hell."
**I just heard this on another YT video, in Heston's own voice!

I get them remaking some of them to catch up with the times and to add in what they wanted in old ones that may not have been in the budget or they had a better or different idea after all these years. If you have a franchise like this you kinda have to look at the old to be able to understand the new or at least respect it. Kinda like the new star track to the new star wars and so on. Also I cant help but think you little dog looks like an Ewok an is adorable. I have 2 dogs Kylo Ren and Ben Solo they are my service dogs. :)

9:16 It's most interesting what moral priorities were predominant in past decades. The mere existence of a genetically "impure" child was too inappropriate to keep in the story for general audiences, but plenty of bloody violent killing -- even shooting a crying baby to death -- was fine for any age of kids to be shown.

I saw this movie for the first time in 2004 . I just wish i didn't already know of the last 3 min of the movie. Unrelated but "Luke i'm your father" and "I see dead people" also didn't hit the same as i imagine it would have. I'll make sure my kid sees everything before they hit 12 yrs old.

The first time I saw the original was in the 70's, I was in elementary school. I already knew the ending. I just rewatched it today. And it still holds up very well. But it sure seems to me that it should have been obvious to most viewers he was on Earth all along. Especially when the find the artifacts of an ancient human civilization with a talking doll human. Seems like at that point, if not sooner, it would have been obvious.

I always wanted to see the second part from Tim Burton's 2001 but once again some people made a fuzz. I loved the movie.

Gary Goldman's Dreyfus was the antagonist in Dawn but he wasn't a villain, and technically speaking Colonel McCullough wasn't wrong despite his brutality and descent into madness

Too be fair with Oldman in "Dawn", he wasn't really a "bad guy" per say . At least not how I saw things. Just a desperate dude, that lost his family. I actually liked Oldmans's more layered performance than Woody's, kinda one note "bad guy" role. Different characters for sure. Might just be me. Great video though! Seeing the new Apes tonight!

Yeah I'd say Dreyfus was more neutral if anything. He allowed Malcolm time to negotiate with Caesar and come to a peaceful resolution and he only fought back against the apes when Koba's army attacked the city. I imagine if he had survived Dawn then he most likely would have been opposed to the Colonel's actions and the Colonel would likely have him killed as he did Malcolm.
