How much do i have to tight the heat sink screws i think i tight them too much and laptop is still heating even after thermal repaste Do we have to tight screw slightly or tightly plz reply
Thank you for the feedback! if you wish to support the channel you can LIKE or SUB or both :P regarding your question: the screws must be tighten all the way not excess force just tight till end. if you have a bad temps can you tell me what is at max load?, and what brand thermal paste you using?
you may have a unbalanced heat-sink, it's very common, we do get clients coming in and have the same issue, we order hew heatsink or use a copper shim .3mm amzn.to/3SnpoyI and what you want to do is to place paste on GPU and CPU and paste both side of the copper shim. it will help you dramatically.
I cleaned my l340 and i see insane improvement it turns on in 13 seconds, maximum temperature that i hited when i was playing games for 4 hours was 74 degrees, thats insane. I used kryonaut thermal grizzly and thermal grizzly minus pad 8 and i undervolted it to - 125Mv using Throttlestop thats hard to believe before repasteing and cleaning it was hitting 93-98 degrees on cpu

@@uFixTek Thanks for your answer, but I am using m2 ssd and samsung 1 tb ssd. So I don't use any hard drive. Any ideas why the CPU is making a mechanical noise?
the only sound that can be making if you don't have HDd, then and you use it is not the fan, then the condensers (components) coils, high-pitched sounds coming from the motherboard are from electrical components in the system experiencing a strong charge or malfunctioning. you may have a bad inductors on board, you will need to get a technician to check and replace them else it will result on motherboard failure.

I've also got a small question, I have recently been to Ecuador, and I myself am from Europe, I brought my laptop with me to play some games and do some school work and stuff. Which meant thzt we had to bring both the laptop and the cable. Since we're from Europe we had to buy one of those adapters to fit the power outlet. Sadly on the way there we lost rhe backpack on which the cables were kept so we had to buy a new one there. of course they didn't have cables that'd fit European outlets so we were forced to buy one with an American outlet. I'm pretty sure the voltage from there is lower than here in Europe right? Anyways, now I'm back in Europe and I've noticed significant fps drops while playing games. The weird thing is that I can play fine at a stable fps for quite some time and after a while is starts with the fps drops and thye're really really annoying. Wait a minute or something and they're gone, only to return a few minutes later. I'm using the cable with SA outlet plugged into an adapter that converts it to a EU outlet. It does not change the voltage tho, so I was wondering if my performance issues would be caused by a too low voltage?

I did exactly this, but I am getting a bit worse temperatures than before. Could it be that I applied the paste somehow bad? Is it possible that I maybe pressed it a little too hard on the new paste and it went away from the centre? Should I reapply it?

@@uFixTek I used the Arctic MX-4. I did nothing with the pads except cleaned them with a little bit alcohol from the old paste. I think I applied enough of the paste, and I screwed it in X way. That's why it feels strange to me.
ok then you may need to use a thick paste like artic silver 5 that is great for a uneven heatsink, this happens often we get this situations in the store, that sometime the paste that we use normally mx4 dont respond well because its not thick. so we use artic silver 5 that is thicker and can stand better the unbalanced plates. because the factory paste is also thicker for the same reason. if you can get your hands get artic silver 5 is the only good paste that is thick, dont get : thermal grizzly kryonaut or anything else they are awesome but they are like mx4 very thin. amzn.to/3yIRtXb or get the 13grams for futures repaste: amzn.to/3qYr0Cb - note if you still have left over mx4 do a repaste again to confirm the situation.

@@uFixTek The laptop is barely a year old so I don't think there is a real need ofr that yet. I also don't run programs that heavy very often and I have undervolted it to boot so unless it's very hot in the room it barely goes above 80°C. Which is fine by me. Also is the battery plug always where it is in your video or do I need to look around a bit for that? I don't know what screen size the laptop is you showed but mine is a 17 inch chonker. So I don't know if all the parts are in the same place yet. They should share the same fan models though I think.
the battery plugs are 90% the same and the only thing it maybe moved few centimeter to left or right but the removal its the same. if the laptop its been used for a year and no heavy loads daily then wait for next year. i normally replace the paste every two years for heavy users. good luck

i usually dont like putting that info because unless i do a live test, then that would be a hard prove , else any chart could be a fake number, i could easily tell you with Kryonaut you will get the best temps possible before liquid metal, and your results will always be different than anyone else because of many factors : room temp type of testing and airflow, and how well you repasted, note: when playing lift the back end of the laptop about 1-3cm and you will see a huge temp drop. i will take your advise and try to implement the chat in my future videos. Thank you for the feedback and your support to the channel, if there is anything else i could help you in the future ask me in any of my video comments. good luck :P
@@uFixTek All true and fair enough, if the laptop is old and you're cleaning it may as well put on new better paste. What I'm interested is it worth just to replace the paste, yes kryonaut will be better than anything the manufacturer put on but will there be a substantial difference? As you said there are many other factors to take into account when it comes to cooling laptops, so in general the difference would be 1-2 degrees then it's not worth it, but if you would tell me that it could be up to 10 degrees difference then I would replace the paste immediately.
oh my friend you in for a surprise... If you replace the manufacture paste to a kryonaut paste, you will definitely see a big difference about 10-20 in some cases even more. but again, what you are going to realize is that when you repaste, your fan noise will drop a lot, unlike with manufacture paste the fan that is working twice as hard to keep the temps down. so keep the factor in mind, that the fan is working less with new paste. e.g manufacture: temp reaches ABOVE 80c, the fan will go to max speed at 100%, trying to bring to 80c or under. e.g. new paste: temp reaches 79c, but under 80c but the fan running at
@@uFixTek Thanks for the informative response, the fan noise noise ain't that big of a deal for me but throttling is, during load my GPU gets to 75c Max (90c in a specific stress test) But my CPU even with undervolting anywhere between 80-95c so it throttles hard. So definitely gonna repaste with some kryonaut. :)
oh daymn i would really really recommend you repaste and place a copper shim on both 20mm x 20mm x.4mm -.5mm amzn.to/3pfYjOW you will see major major difference, and before asking about the pads on vrams , you really dont need the pads for the vrams they are there for those that do vram overclock. there reason for the copper shim is to create more pressure on the gpu and cpu, and the result will be 60%better, comparing to simple repaste. the reason is: law of the physics: in order for two parts have better heat or cold transfer its pressure, and with this crappy x clamps that they use in purpose they remove the pressure on the heatsink and by placing the copper shim you will create a great pressure and you will see a dramatic temp drop. i have made few videos with copper shim with liquid metal but dont place LM just place paste instead of LM. you should never hit over 90c under load or tests. again if you dont want to get the copper shim, just do a simple repaste. but it would be awesome if you did place a copper shim on top.

Please help me immediately, i can't open copper pipe's screw's, which screwdriver is compatiple with this one. Because i can't open it it is stucked, i opened gpu's 2 screws but processor's 3 screws can't open. I think it stuck from temperature. Please help me i need my laptop immediately. Which number of screwdriver compatible with cooper pipe screws?
My friend its SCREW Philips 0 , and you need to press hard on the screw and rotate, press down hard and rotate. in case you messed up the screw head then you have to make a straight cut on top of the screw heat to be able to use screw driver. Thank you for the support and if there is anything i can help let me know.
Thank you, I solved the problem with another so thick flat type (idk number it is in the set) screwdriver. After that I apply the thermal paste and made undervolt now my Lenovo IdeaPad L340 is not exceed 80°C. I used Cooler Master MasterGel Maker Nano thermal paste. It is a bit of expensive, but good for this value. Thanks uFixIt for this video.
@@uFixTek I have a one question too, can I change this messed up screws? Or I need a new heatsink, heatsink is so expensive i checked from internet. These screw also has C-Lock as you said. If you have and you can sell me I will buy from you with ebay, bitcoin, or any your selection payment method.
Hyy it's me again... As I checked with some games, using MSI Afterburner... For Mafia 2 Classic the GPU temps are around at 60C-65C while I LIMIT says NO LOAD But when I play Resident Evil 3 Remake GPU temps are increasing gradually while LIMIT says VOLTAGE LIMIT So is it the problem with battery and charger?
Thank you for the feedback and your support to the channel by a sub :P regarding your question: we do get this issue in the store often and the results: 1. 80% charger failing to deliver the right amount of amper. 2. a voltage regulator on the motherboard of not woring properly 3. batter has nothing to do with this, you should never never do a full load on battery alone , as you can damage many power regulator components, that can result in the above issue.
@@nj_mods Lenvo L340 gaming has a power limit of 35w (TDP) due to its poor thermals in theory. I will try reapplying thermal paste and changing the TdP from 35 to 45
@@nj_mods Have you re-pasted the CPU and GPU yet? My temperatures are under 75's on apex legends and another air plane demanding game. There is a new BIOS update in Lenovo service bridge for Lenovo L340 gaming laptops. I updated that BIOS, also put my pergormance power plan in the minimum to 100% and maximum to 90%. Please note I have a cooling pad and place my laptop lifted a few centimeters from the desk when gaming. Make sure you have no windows updates pending. Try eliminating start up apps by going to task manager and check disable start up apps. You can also disable background apps by going to background apps in windows. In short start up and background apps are energy killers and i believe they also eat some power from the CPU *besides* our games. Thus, running a game + start up + background apps may make the computer hotter but that is my theory. I have done all of the above + will take my laptop to take off the manufacturing thermal paste for a new repaste. Eventhough my laptop is just 1month old, i don't trust the application of pre-applied thermal paste.

Thank you for the feedback and your support to the channel by a SUB :P regarding your question: sometimes the new chargers give a fraction of extra voltage (.4 -.6 volt) extra and that can cause the components failure and over heating. this issue was happening with HP service center chargers and they had to do a recall and now its happening on lenovo and dell few cases.

Heyy, nice video Btw I have a problem... I have Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming With specs: Intel i5-9300HF 2.40ghz turbo to 4.1ghz NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 3gb 8gb Ram Its only 2 months old. The issue is whenever I play games like Mad Max and Rise of the Tomb Raider the cpu speed goes down to 0.79ghz after playing for a while. Do u have any fix or suggestions for that cuz it's happening everytime and it also makes games unplayable.
Thank you for the feedback and your support to the channel by a sub :P Regarding your question: #1. before you game make sure your battery is fully charged, and connected A/C #2. never play game on battery only, #3. if its two months old its not because of over heating. its because of a power regulator on a motherboard is going bad. do this and report back: power off the laptop: plug the charger and let it sit for 3h, then power on with charger plugged in and check the cpu speed , and when gaming (if you feel that its slowing down) double check to see if the battery is charging and its at full. if you minimized and see the battery at 80 or so that means the charger got disconnected sometime mid gaming (because of charger failure) and the cpu lowered speed. you may simply have to replace the charger.
@@uFixTek I have turned on Conservative Mode on Lenovo Vantage which does not let battery exceed 60%, which increase battery life... So does that affect to the CPU temps?

Should I reapply it?

please answer the following questions correctly and exactly:
#1. what brand and model of the paste you using?
#2. did you touch or remove or changed the pads around the GPU/CPU?
#3. did you place a fair amount of the paste in the center?
#4. did you cross screw the heat sink clamps. in a X way?
@@uFixTek I used the Arctic MX-4. I did nothing with the pads except cleaned them with a little bit alcohol from the old paste. I think I applied enough of the paste, and I screwed it in X way. That's why it feels strange to me.
ok then you may need to use a thick paste like artic silver 5 that is great for a uneven heatsink, this happens often we get this situations in the store, that sometime the paste that we use normally mx4 dont respond well because its not thick. so we use artic silver 5 that is thicker and can stand better the unbalanced plates. because the factory paste is also thicker for the same reason. if you can get your hands get artic silver 5 is the only good paste that is thick, dont get :
thermal grizzly kryonaut
or anything else they are awesome but they are like mx4 very thin.

regarding your question: YES and NOT recommended you will have 80% chance of breaking the hinges under the keys, it requires lots of skills. i been doing it for 18years and still not perfect.
My brother spilled soda on my laptop so some of my keys are sticky.
use a isopropyl alcohol with a pray and spray a fair amount on the keys and let the isopropyl alcohol get under and keep tapping the keys till it washed the soda, the isopropyl alcohol will destroy the soda :P
make sure the laptop is off when you doing this and let the laptop dry dont worry the isopropyl alcohol is not conductive.

They should share the same fan models though I think.
the battery plugs are 90% the same and the only thing it maybe moved few centimeter to left or right but the removal its the same. if the laptop its been used for a year and no heavy loads daily then wait for next year. i normally replace the paste every two years for heavy users. good luck

I'd be great if you would post your thermals before and after.
To see if kryonaut would help with throttling.
i usually dont like putting that info because unless i do a live test, then that would be a hard prove , else any chart could be a fake number, i could easily tell you with Kryonaut you will get the best temps possible before liquid metal, and your results will always be different than anyone else because of many factors : room temp type of testing and airflow, and how well you repasted, note: when playing lift the back end of the laptop about 1-3cm and you will see a huge temp drop. i will take your advise and try to implement the chat in my future videos.
If you replace the manufacture paste to a kryonaut paste, you will definitely see a big difference about 10-20 in some cases even more.
but again, what you are going to realize is that when you repaste, your fan noise will drop a lot, unlike with manufacture paste the fan that is working twice as hard to keep the temps down. so keep the factor in mind, that the fan is working less with new paste.
e.g manufacture: temp reaches ABOVE 80c, the fan will go to max speed at 100%, trying to bring to 80c or under.
e.g. new paste: temp reaches 79c, but under 80c but the fan running at
@@uFixTek Thanks for the informative response, the fan noise noise ain't that big of a deal for me but throttling is, during load my GPU gets to 75c Max (90c in a specific stress test)
But my CPU even with undervolting anywhere between 80-95c so it throttles hard.
So definitely gonna repaste with some kryonaut. :)
oh daymn i would really really recommend you repaste and place a copper shim on both 20mm x 20mm x.4mm -.5mm
amzn.to/3pfYjOW
you will see major major difference, and before asking about the pads on vrams , you really dont need the pads for the vrams they are there for those that do vram overclock.
there reason for the copper shim is to create more pressure on the gpu and cpu, and the result will be 60%better, comparing to simple repaste.
the reason is: law of the physics: in order for two parts have better heat or cold transfer its pressure, and with this crappy x clamps that they use in purpose they remove the pressure on the heatsink and by placing the copper shim you will create a great pressure and you will see a dramatic temp drop.
i have made few videos with copper shim with liquid metal but dont place LM just place paste instead of LM.
you should never hit over 90c under load or tests.
again if you dont want to get the copper shim, just do a simple repaste. but it would be awesome if you did place a copper shim on top.

wooo you need a re paste your device will have dramatic drop in temps. as you can see the other comment the guy says it helped him to drop the temps y 20c , you will see a big difference. the reason for shutdown is because of intel over heating protection, it shutdown to prevent over heating/ damage to cpu. thank you for the feedback and your support to the channel.

Is this laptop a 1650
thank you! for the feedback and your support to the channel by SUB :P
Regarding your question: yes it is and if it wasn't the steps are the same for even a 1050 version
Heyy, nice video
Btw I have a problem...
I have Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming
With specs:
Intel i5-9300HF 2.40ghz turbo to 4.1ghz
NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 3gb
8gb Ram
Its only 2 months old.
The issue is whenever I play games like Mad Max and Rise of the Tomb Raider the cpu speed goes down to 0.79ghz after playing for a while.
Do u have any fix or suggestions for that cuz it's happening everytime and it also makes games unplayable.
Thank you for the feedback and your support to the channel by a sub :P
Regarding your question:
#1. before you game make sure your battery is fully charged, and connected A/C
#2. never play game on battery only,
#3. if its two months old its not because of over heating. its because of a power regulator on a motherboard is going bad.
do this and report back:
power off the laptop:
plug the charger and let it sit for 3h, then power on with charger plugged in and check the cpu speed , and when gaming (if you feel that its slowing down) double check to see if the battery is charging and its at full. if you minimized and see the battery at 80 or so that means the charger got disconnected sometime mid gaming (because of charger failure) and the cpu lowered speed. you may simply have to replace the charger.
@@uFixTek I have turned on Conservative Mode on Lenovo Vantage which does not let battery exceed 60%, which increase battery life... So does that affect to the CPU temps?
@@uFixTek unfortunately it happened again, as of before it was fine
during noon I turned off and removed power cable then after almost 2h I started my laptop back on and still kept it unplugged as of I was watching some YT then I plugged in and then started mad max and after playing like 30mins cpu went to 0.79ghz.
It wasn't the case in the morning as I was using it from like 9am to 2pm continuosly and never had any issues... Also I was playing mad max in morning like 2h without any issues
@@uFixTek I did a stress test using Intel XTU and it was power limit throttling and thermal throttling...
@@nj_mods same problem so whats the solution?
i cant open the back at the ethernet port

regarding your question: you make sure you remove the screw :P and if you loosen up the other end of the case just pull up from other end and this side will snap out. they are hold by tiny clips that are not even important.
@@uFixTek i have subbed
much appreciated :P
I accidentally pulled th wi fi wire and disconnected

The battery life in this thing is horrendous. It was good for the 1st couple of months then whoops! The shit was tanked
Thank you for the feedback and your support to the channel, regarding the battery it is horrible as we change them very often the quality of lithium polymer battery on this models are very low grade.
as far as I know the problem is in MSI Afterburner if you are using it ofc, the thing is that MSI is constantly pinging your GPU which results in draining your battery faster
so I think that maybe turning off the program while using your laptop on battery may solve your problem at least a little
Hello there!
How come nit replacing the pads? Its not necessary at all even after 5 years in my case?
Thank you for your feedback! If you wish to support the channel, you can like, subscribe, or both!
Regarding your question, the thermal pads on this models can last up to 12 years, if your pads are damaged then change them but if they look fine no need to change them.
Should you have any further questions or requests in the future, please don't hesitate to ask me.
cheers🍻
@@uFixTek Thanks for the tip. 1 more thing. What speed of ram can I max use in this laptop?
doesn't matter what speed you give the CPU and motherboard will auto adjust the speed to the max speed that is possible, remember that in laptop the more ram sticks you place the mother will lower the speed of the ram automatically and there is no option to manually increase it.
for you i recommend you to get 16GB DDR4 2666MHz stick

also you may want to watch the video on that:
