Yeah, sorry for the suggestion that that area in stage 2-2 might be a 1-Up Gathering spot. I never would have guessed that that was just a lucky coincidence. Still, I am kinda happy that the first stream of 2023 was such a ragetastic one. Definitely made for a couple of entertaining hours. Since you mentioned them at one point in the stream, I recently tried out the two other NES Addams Family games besides Fester's Quest: -The Addams Family (where you play as Gomez) I found decent, it is fine. It certainly appears very difficult to finish the whole game in one sitting with just three continues and after game over, you have to start all over again. I can imagine you not liking it too much because it is a kind of small-scale Metroidvania with memorization involved. -Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt is a bit more accessible I think because at least it gives you passwords after you defeat a boss so you don't have to finish the game in one sitting. Still has Metroidvania elements though and it is really weird that the actual game has no music for some reason. Here are some other platformers you might want to check out/come back to on NES/Famicom (apologies in advance if you already checked them out in a variety stream): -Adventure Island 2 + 3 (at least 2 brought some improvements that made it a bit more forgiving than its predecessor) -Adventures Of Tom Sawyer (during your NES A-Z streams, you appeared to have a good impression of that game so it might be worth a more in-depth look). -Akumajou Dracula: Boku Dracula-kun (a more comic platformer and a spin-off of Castlevania. Made by Konami so it should be at least fine or something). -Aladdin (yep, Aladdin which only came out in Europe. Might be worth for a laugh if you are nearing the end of a stream since I can see one aspect of the graphics turning you off). -Armadillo (a Famicom-only platformer where you are an armadillo with a hat and roll attack enemies) -Asmik-kun Land (again Famicom-only platformer that seemed decent at least) -Asterix (Europe-only NES platformer based on that famous comic strip) -Atlantis No Nazo (the game that took pride on its box art by declaring itself to be better than Super Mario Bros.. One difficult game).
Thank you for this livestream! I was going through a stressful time in my life and this livestream took my mind off of it! Thank you for the entertainment!
3:08:30, 3:14:05, 3:22:14 and the Evil Tree boss, LOL the excitement...... Made my day. Thank you. Valiant effort. Get 'em next time. A strategy is to get as many points and try to not get hit as the big mega-dude. This game definitely sharpens your reflexes...... If you get to Area 4 and get a game over, it'll let you continue from Area 2.
Watched the whole thing. Amazing. This is an example of one of those games with a punitive difficulty level that actively tries to make sure no one can beat it. I have to say though, I think this is the first time I've ever seen a game where after you run out of ammo you start swinging your rifle like a club. Even modern shooters don't do that. It would be great to see a Doom mod where the alternate fire for the pistol is pistol-whipping the demons, and the alternate fire for all the other guns is beating the demons with the gunstock. The Native Americans designed some war clubs after gunstocks because they made such effective improvised clubs. Apparently not in Amagon though.
"sure no one can beat it" - amaizing, this is example of person who know nothing about things he talks about! =) after several levels there are infinite continiouses, if you pay attention, you like my game, here is a fair game full of interesting level design, if not, as creator i dont want to spend year of my life, making game for you =(
i catch you only on yt & just watched some Golden Girls highlights... so now i'm ready for this... i played Amagon as a kid with my best friend for a weekend back then & we got stuck somewhere early... followed by Star Wars NES with another stuckee soon therefter... Those were the days... Thanks Mike, you bring the memories back, clear as day. Never Stop, Love the Content, Just Keep On Living...
LOL instant like. One of my favorites. Hard as hell. Still have the box, but no game........ I once beat it without dying (I have no proof), but it took about a million resets before I did. Sucks when you get to the 5th or 6th area and die..... This will be fun I'm sure.
3:55:49 Why? Why do you have to get hit? You want to be able to shoot at them, so you are getting hit to turn back to the guy with the rifle. Doesn't the big guy have a way to SHOOT...that ALSO uses your power and turn you back? 2 dongs...1 stone. I love you, Mike. Don't forget it.
Played this as a kid. One of the only games I had. I played it thousands of times and never got to the elephants.. I wanted to beat it and never even sniffed beating it. So glad to see how unprepared I was seeing you give it a hard game status.
Dude, your face when those two elephants just fucked off screen was priceless. Amazing. It was about half way through the stream. I still laugh when I think about it. Thanks for that. Nice work.
I always confuse Dino Rikki with Amagon but I guess they have something in common: they are both brutally hard, and I have to say Amagon should be at the top along with other stablished and hard NES games like ghosts & goblins, star force, king's knight, castlevania 3, battletoads, etc.
I got this for Christmas one year... I absolutely hated it. I had to borrow my friends game genie to beat it. On my first attempt to beat it with the game genie the power went out in my house on the very last level. I finally finished it months later.
Wow. Just the other day I was like man I wanna see Mike play this beast🤣. I got this game as a bundle back when I was 6. Without cheats it’s so hard like ghosts and Goblins hard an the levels work the same way. It’s all about knowing where and when the big man icon will or could pop up then when to use it. That’s all the points are good for. It’s one of those you have to memorize every little thing in every level enemy wise. The hardest parts are that sometimes the big guy icons show an sometimes not also the damn limited ammo. There’s a certain point in level 4 the river level that you have to get the icon an be good enough to not lose it the first waterfall part. Like you saw you don’t get the chance to get it back. That happens later on in the nighttime jungle as well. Good luck next playthrough an get plenty of practice. You will need it as you pretty much almost reached the halfway point of the game an it only ramps up from there!
I was waiting for you to get to this one. Spent many hours with it back in the day and raged hard on it. The one hit kill, limited hard to get ammo, and heavy jump physics with Bruce Banner guy frustrated me the most.
I really enjoyed this as a youth but DAMN it was hard as hell. I'll enjoy this I feel. Might even fire up my old copy. Never got to the end but appreciated that it was the Flatwoods Monster which would also appear in Space Harrier and Fallout 76 of all things to name a few.
As much as I like watching Mike play retro games.... this one was tough. I never thought I would long for Fester's Quest... LOL! And the music of this game- it just might be driving me a little crazy-
Me and my sister had this cart as kids. Amazing that I have never heard anyone talk about this game until now. Its brutal. I think we got to level 2 and thats it.. Wonder if Its still in my collection? Mike Stream Abadox! Noone talks about that either and it gets a bad rap. ITs a decent game and it had a weird commercial
This game is a bit like Fester's Quest in that the levels are too long and the bosses soak up too much damage to the point where they become unfun after you've been pounding them for two minutes. I think it's totally fair to practice this one with Game Genie codes for Infinite Ammo and Infinite Lives.
This was a great one, that fight with the tree near the 3hr mark, so tense! Ive been playing Amagon myself a bit since this stream and it's tough but fun, I like finding games I'd never have heard of through these streams especially lesser known arcade ones like Mr. Do. Also I changed my twitch name to Ms. Amagon as a bit during the Livestream and now I'm stuck with it for 30 days, ehh not totally worth it but it's fine haha
This was so painful lol! Mike you could've left it after 2,5 hours but still wanted to continue. It was brutal and that's why I love your streams so much haha!
I remember renting this game as a kid. I don’t remember it being terrible. Kinda fun, actually, but not the best controls, and I wish it wasn’t so easy to die. Anyway, would you consider playing either Dr. Chaos or Tom Sawyer for the NES? Two more “classics” that not many people have played.
Mike, i feel that this evil torture device masquerading as a cheerful video game might be on par with King's Knight or Wizard of Oz on SNES in terms on masochism & sadism.. You MUST beat this, you know it as much as we do... Lol
Vinal NES music is a GENIUS idea. I mean, it's a loop. They'reade to be looped. That means you could use a ring system instead of a spiral system. The music would go on for as long as you wanted it to go on.
This definitely belongs in a Top 10 list of games where you power up by becoming more naked and buff. Altered Beast actually came out the same year (in Japan at least) so it's up in the air which first came up with the kinky clothes-ripping muscle expansion powerup mechanic. Even the half-animal enemies in Amagon have a AB buff furry kinda quality to them. Hmmmm
I rented this in the early 90s and it ruined my weekend. I love this video though and I played this last year and don’t hate it anymore. Note: there is a kind of cool mechanic regarding points and life when you decide to get big which provides some strategy situations.
Please play Ahhh! Real Monsters for sega.... not sure anyone has ever recommended this?? One of my faves. Kind of a pain in the neck game at times but a hidden gem in my opinion.
3:08:29 after that how dare you to say this game isn't a blast to play? it is just like mario - unusual physics, hidden extra-lives, big/small character, one hit death...only difference that you played ario for several years, and this game for 3 hours
Hey Mike I know I have mentioned this to you before but I hope in the Future you try out Sword Master And Dragon Fighter for NES I’m Pretty Certain you would would enjoy them
I was a big fan of this as a kid. I only ever got about halfway through, but I really loved turning into the big guy and punching everything.
Yeah, sorry for the suggestion that that area in stage 2-2 might be a 1-Up Gathering spot. I never would have guessed that that was just a lucky coincidence.

Got this as a kid along with Elevator Action after having surgery. Man, what a way to try and recover.
Survival through adversity 😁

You’re on to something

Leave it to Mike to find an old NES game that I've never heard about in my entire life! Looks awesome, I would have loved to play this as a kid! 😍
it is suprsingly stiff and unforgiving even though it looks not too hard. it is fun though. 6/10 or with friends and drugs its an 8/10

I wish I had Mikes attention span. I wish I had any attention span as an adult. Im incapable of sitting down and playing ANY game for five hours.

I'm not sure if this was a good stream or a entertaining game. I watched it twice, not realizing it's 5 hours.
Mike, I am LEGIT not kidding when I say that you should change your channel name to manbaby gaming because its great and hilarious.
This was so painful lol! Mike you could've left it after 2,5 hours but still wanted to continue. It was brutal and that's why I love your streams so much haha!
i'm glad people finally gave pesterminator a rest long enough to discuss amagon, it's about time

God your chat is the most demented thing to ever exist lol
I'm digging the song that plays when Amagon gets beefed up.
MegaDon LOL (Megagon)
Mike your videos are fun. Thank you for getting me to play Warcraft 2 and Doom
I remember thinking it looked cool in Nintendo Power, renting it, and then never really thinking about it much anymore.... So... perhaps not the best.
I remember renting this game as a kid. I don’t remember it being terrible. Kinda fun, actually, but not the best controls, and I wish it wasn’t so easy to die.

I was thinking the same for Tom Sawyer.
29:48 These are Important life lessons one must take to heart!
Where's the Amigone stream?
how about taking on rescue the embassy mission for NES?
Mike's tolerance for boredom is truly unrivaled, which begs the question:
Wizard of Oz no-hit no-death run when?
Missed this live, I heard SOOO much about it.
Addendum: this whole video was hilarious. THE FUCKIN EYEBALLS!! And so on. So good.
This and Karnov were among the first NES games I had. I had a sad childhood.
Interesting video game!
I always avoided renting this game because I didn't like the cover art. I still don't.
yeah this art is horrendous
it almost looks like cereal box art
My aunt bought this game for me. I could never really figure out why, but I bet it had something to do with the cover art.
Mike, i feel that this evil torture device masquerading as a cheerful video game might be on par with King's Knight or Wizard of Oz on SNES in terms on masochism & sadism.. You MUST beat this, you know it as much as we do... Lol
I've learned much from your suffering. Ammo is precious, and so take 1ups as they come (not worth ammo loss to farm).
oh, shit. You actually went for it. I look forward to this.
Mike, do you plan to play classic Apogee dos games some time? Would be cool to see what you think of those.
Love it!!!!
This was a fun stream the other nite. Amagon Souls 💪🏾💙
Vinal NES music is a GENIUS idea. I mean, it's a loop. They'reade to be looped. That means you could use a ring system instead of a spiral system. The music would go on for as long as you wanted it to go on.
They're made to be looped*
Is vinal music made with vines? Like someone swings vines around in the air to make them whistle? Bang them on something?
Love to see the real Contra 3 on the Nes.
Love Your Live Stream Mike Amazing Stream Keep up the Good Work.
cheshire cat from alice n wonderland disney movie is what your thinking of mike
