The one thing which I feel is SO important with these small cameras is to shoot all of those lower light compositions with the 2second timer on. You can get rid of all camera shake from triggering the shutter.
I had the 1st generation of the G7 X and though I’d always like taking photos, mainly snapshots, on holiday, days out etc I’d never taken it any further. I actually won the G7 X, just by filling in an online form for the Independent Newspaper, it was the presets on this camera that got me into photography proper if you will and especially Street Photography, when I fell in the river and ruined all my gear this was in my pocket, I couldn’t afford to replace it with the insurance, not along with my XT3, still miss it today. I’ve heard the MKii is great but only complaints about the MKiii.
@@benhammedia9940 Before I won it I was looking for a new compact, it was a nightmare trying to find one with a viewfinder, not a chance. I did get a new compact which I had for about 4 months before I won, wish I still had it as I've started collecting cameras, mainly film ones but I do have a digital Kodak I bought in 2003. It's tiny, thought it still worked but it doesn't for some reason.
I love my G7Xii! It's really packed with features for such a small camera and the software is excellent (but not surprising, Canon is good at software). Possibly my favourite surprise feature is the fact that it tells you the full-frame equivalent focal length when you use the stepped zoom function of the front ring. That feature alone has made it vastly more appealing for me to use in place of a more "proper" photography camera. It's also amazingly solid to hold and operate one-handed because of the very well-designed front and rear grips. Highly recommended. Just be a bit careful in dusty environments (or dusty pocketses!) because the moving lens assembly can get dust inside fairly easily. I also recommend getting one of those ebay tempered glass screen protectors. It feels a lot less breakable with that small addition.
I had that camera for a few years and sold it for a different mirrorless with an aps-c sensor. I do occasionally wish I held on to it, however. It is very capable camera that punches way above its weight..... Thanks for the video.
Thinking about buying this camera. I don't feel comfortable carrying my DSLR around, having to carry bags... Carrying such a competent and versatile camera in my pocket sounds ever more appealing.
Thank you so much for this very inspiring video. I have just recentliy been gifted this wonderful camera and my love for photography has increased greatly with it's usage. The camera's setup allows for an easy transition from auto" to "manuel" mode, making taking pics way more fun and creative. One thing I would love to know though, taking pictures of building, I keep getting a pyramid effect. Is there a way to fix this without having to buy/rent a tilt-shift-lens or having to purchase a corrective program?
I am a newbie to photography. I have made up my mind to get mark 2. Does launch year matter as it was launched in 2016 and could give some problems for servicing and all??
It's a very good camera to start you off with if you are looking for a good point and shoot camera. 2016 is when it came on the market. I got mine new in 2019 so I assume they are still manufacturing them even though the mark 3 is out. I feel you shouldn't have any issues
On paper there isn't much difference but for me looking at them side by side I would pick the G7X as it has a tilt screen and focal length, aperture and zoom is a bit better. So for the little extra in price feel it's a better option
Are these photos straight out of the camera? I saw another video where the guy said "this camera gives out a film look" what do you have to say about it and what has your experience been like?? Does the pictures look anywhere close to film-like?
Hey, no these are slightly edited. The only photo I didn't edit was the wide shot of Waterloo bridge. I personally wouldn't say it gives a film look but there are some in camera settings that could give you one so maybe that's what they were talking about. Hope that helps ✌️
What would you suggest the best general settings are for shooting in manual for street photography ? I have been using shutter speed of 1/200, aperture f/8.0 and 100ISO
Is the iii worth the extra bit or is the ii plenty sufficient for a newbie hobbyist? I really like the feel of the ii, and don't see much improvements to the iii.
Well that does depend. For a hobbyist I think the Mii will be just fine. What I can see as an advantage to buying the Miii is: 4K video, faster shutter speed, better ISO and there is a mic input for better audio for videos. But that's all video, if you are only looking at photos the specs look the same
I’m planning on buying canon g7x mark ii because I love vlogging my life for myself and I also love taking pictures so would you recommend me buying the g7x mark ii or the canon g7x mark iii, I’m really confused because I’ve seen a lot of videos about both of these cameras and I don’t know which one would be the best for me also it would be my very first camera and I really want to buy from canon cuz of the flip screen you know? Anyways I love the video and really great, cinematic pictures.
Hi, the mark 2 is a great camera so yes I would recommend it but if you can afford it get the mark 3 as it is an upgrade with a few more features. When I can I will upgrade to the mark 3 myself. So depending on how much you want to spend now compared to later
which settings did you use i’m new with these camera stuff i just bought id for fun and sometimes i get incredible pictures and sometimes i get like camera phone picture, i don’t know what setting to use C, TV , P , SCN , M. and also sometimes the flash works and sometimes it doesn’t. :( (i’m very new and i have no idea using cameras)
Starting out can feel like a lot. The settings can feel like you need a new degree but it's a lot easier than you think. I have a few videos that can help. But for now, start to learn the photography triangle (shutter speed, aperture, ISO) and how they work. As you learn them I use Tv (shutter priority) or Av (aperture priority) and get used to just having fun shooting
great video!! the quality is amazing! it’s handy and easy to use and walk around with . if anyone is ever interested in it trust !! it’s worth the price
I'm coming from a t6i dslr. Debating between the ii and iii. Going to be mostly doing travel photography for myself. I'm torn between the two. I'm sure I'll be happy regardless.

Very true, find a good place to put your camera or a mini tripod as well

It's a sweet little camera, might have to shoot more with it as I really only use it for vlogging and b roll. That sounds like my worse nightmare

So very true, it really is a good buy. That's a good idea about the screen protector 👍
What a cool shots, man! I have the same camera used for video, but never thought about its photo capabilities. Thanks for inspiration. Keep it up!
Thank you fella, 👊 yeah I use it mainly as my B camera but it does take great photos

That is s true
Thx for the video, I had some doubts about buying this g7x II for a photo use.
But the video is reassuring me about it !
Just love this, thank you for your message and I'm happy I could help
Could you make a portrait photography video with the canon g7x mark II?
That's a good idea, I'll look into planning that one. Thank you
randomly stumbled across this channel - this is an amazing camera and content. The photos are nostalgic as the desaturation reminds me of childhood.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video mate and you got something extra out of it. 👌

It's a great camera, I'm very pleased to have invested in it

@@benhammedia9940 Thanks, I am pretty much convinced now and going to get it 😇.
What settings where you using?
Or what are your most used settings for photography with this camera?
I shoot in manual so the settings change dependant on the conditions, but I try to stay at 1/150-250 f2-6 iso 100-600
Excellent review ! Thank you 👍🏻
Appreciated thank you 👍
I loved my G7x mark ii when I was doing TH-cam mainly, I then ended up doing my first paid video shoot with it 😂 great little camera
It's a great little camera, was back out with it yesterday
What do you think about G9 X II, compare to this camera?
On paper there isn't much difference but for me looking at them side by side I would pick the G7X as it has a tilt screen and focal length, aperture and zoom is a bit better. So for the little extra in price feel it's a better option

@Benham Media yes that was great help. Thank you so much Benham!❤️
My pleasure mate, good shooting 👍
Thank you for introducing Japanese products. By the way, what are you using for the pov camera? teach me please
Thank you, I used to use the Pioneer action cam but now that that's broken I use the G7X ii
@@benhammedia9940 thankyou
really nice captures there.. i still can not decide between Sony RX100 and Canon G7x.. your video helps a lot, thank you
Thank you, I will always say Canon but then I'm biased lol
Whats the settings you are using?...... whats the dial set on
Hi, so it does depend on the shoot at the time but usually shutter 250 f stop 3-8 and ISO as low as I can (around 100)
how did you post process the pic at 9:20. I like the color
I think I used one of my presents for this one by the looks of it
What would you suggest the best general settings are for shooting in manual for street photography ? I have been using shutter speed of 1/200, aperture f/8.0 and 100ISO
I think you have that spot on as a starting point, just adjust from there to get the shot you require. Have fun 👌
Today I watch this video n now im going to get my new camera g7x m2 (second hand) hahaha
Thank you for make this awesome video!!
That's awesome, enjoy your new (ish) camera
I really love your photos also watching your videos is a joy... Thanks for uploading these nice videos
Such a nice message, thank you. I'm pleased that you like the photos/videos. Hope you keep on enjoying them
@@benhammedia9940 you're welcome, keep up the great work and of course we keep enjoying them.
did you use some effect to get the film look of the photos?
No just my style of edit

I have it on a chest harness

Yes, all the photos have been edited
Picture looks amazing, do you use some kind of retouch after ?
Thank you, I have some of my own presents (available for free on my website, in the subscription) I edit them all in Lightroom.
Love mine for 4 years now.
It's a tasty camera!
Would u recommend it still over my iPhone XR
I would always recommend a camera over a phone
@@benhammedia9940 alright. Thanks I know the question sounded a bit daft lol
good
What settings are you using while taking these photos on the video?
That does depend on shot to shot but I try and stay at 100ISO shutter no lower then 200 and F around 2-5
can i have your opinion on g7x and g7x mark ii?
In all fairness there isn't much difference, just a few upgrades on style and fps continuous shooting
Got it, the mark ii is very expensive here XD compared to g7x
I can imagine but I've had mind for a few years with no problems so it's a camera built to last. Happy shooting ✌️
Thank you for that beautiful photo session!
And thank you for the lovely message
Did you use full manual or Av?
I was using manual in this video. I do often use Av when I'm shooting street but when I have a little more time I prefer to shoot manual
Cracking video mate, NOPE IT DIDN’T WORK 😂😂😂
Thank you mate, 👊
