As a 78 year old, just want to say that I think you are doing a great thing. Have no second thoughts as to whether or not you should have embarked on this trip of 18 months, and live with your beliefs that you will have leisurely time and tough times ahead. I have never been able to enjoy the tough times, but you have the right ideas, of accepting them and taking your time to work through them. It will make you all that much stronger as the years carry on. Haven't a clue about bushings and drive shafts and all those kind of things, but admired how you tackled the problem of being stuck on a beach until the replacement parts arrived and the repairs were completed.
Thank you for this affirmation, we really appreciate it. We really believe we’re going about it the right way for us. Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed the film.
I watched all these episodes one by one but if was fun to watch them again all together. I'm from California, born there but I'm Mexican and got dual citizenship and now live in Mexicali since 06, I like to watch videos like these because it shows that the vast majority of Mexicans are good people and very friendly not as they are portrayed on the news, keep up the good work guys.
1000% agree! We don’t speak Spanish very well, so our interactions with the people are limited while we get over the language barrier, but we’re very much hoping to put Mexico in a different light through our films. We’re from Canada and don’t have the same media, nor do we consume mainstream media, so we don’t have the same kind of outlook as many Americans on Mexico. We love it here and the people we have met are warm and inviting. I think we’ll be traveling Mexico a lot more in the future . Thanks for watching!
Good, we’re glad! Not everyone is a fan and we won’t always be posting 2hr films, but 30-60mins may be the new standard as it allows me a better chance to tell a more in depth story. Thanks for watching and the positive input, it’s much appreciated!🙌🏻
absolutely stunning! I watched in on my TV, and got confused when you started heading back north. But I can see the reason from the description. Safe travels forward, and thanks for this compilation.
Thanks for watching, we’re stoked you enjoyed it! We watch for community posts on our YT channel page, it should help clear up any confusion you may have. I always make a post before a film release and explain any out of the ordinary posting.

Hello. I made it back and watched the rest. It was a great time. I also want to say how great and professional all of the production and cinematography is. Haha, well it might happen, you never know. Or it’ll stay down in South America and remain the epic van that it is, exploring the roads of chile and Argentina forever more. 😂
I'll have to watch this one in segments, but I'm loving every minute of it. So when you were stranded on the beach for a week, did Meg ever say, "Bet you're glad I bought all that fresh food now, aren't you?" If she didn't say that, you should kiss her feet. haha! But seriously, I'm still saying you're such a good mechanic. Those are such valuable skills to have especially with this kind of lifestyle.
The fish seen while snorkeling made it all worth while.. Fun fact, I only learned 2 things in Spanish class. Hola pescados = hi fish. Como se llama llama = What is your name llama? Both equally fun to say and worthless to use.
Hahahahaha. I’m gonna use that when we get to Argentina and there’s Llama’s all over the place.😂😂 I’m missing the snorkeling this year, but we’ll soon be at the ocean once again. Thanks for watching amigo!🙌🏻
Thanks for watching and no, never. People are just people everywhere and in general Mexican people are wonderful and far friendlier and inviting than most “westerners”.
Your adventures have me thinking 2wd is the way to go under the majority of conditions . No transfer case , extra differential and axles to worry over . What gears and locker are you running with ? . Good to have friends and contacts along the way 👍
We considered it right from the beginning, but ultimately decided not to for a few reasons: we value travel more than a capable vehicle, having the van down for however long a 4x4 swap would take would be time and money taken away from actual travel. For the scope of our travels, we don’t actually need it, it’s actually easier to adjust my expectations for where we want to go. Having said that, I do want a 4x4, but I don’t think the van is a platform I want as 4x4. It’s top heavy, tall, already overweight and designed for just one purpose, to live in and off-roading our house any more than we already are doing would be a little much. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it?🙌🏻
Do you ever have worries after you have a tough time on iffy roads getting into a camp spot about how the hell can we get out of here? We stayed in a small fishing village on an island in Croatia. The road along the seafront had no barriers or guardrails from the water but the access was very steep and short with a 90 degree turn top and bottom. It was sort of paved but lots of gravel and sand so very slippery. I think I spent 3 days fretting over if we could even get out of there! If it had rained we wouldn’t have made it. Nevertheless speed in a small car with a slippy clutch…we got out!
There have been a few times, but we’re pretty ok with figuring it out when we get there. We use the same tactic, a bit of well modulated speed usually gets us out. Thanks for watching!🙌🏻

9:05 there is big controversy with Machaca, as it is a Sonora State regional recepy. the people from sonora will not cook it with that kind of shredded beef, they cook it with a different kind of beef , if you want to learn how to cook sonora style or as someone from Sonora would say, REAL MACHACA Get the recepy from someone from Sonora
Interesting! We had no idea. We are starting to learn about regional foods as we are currently traveling mainland. One day we’ll do some more time in Sonora and maybe find some interesting new machaca dishes. Thanks for watching!
@@SlowRoamers thank you, I am from Mexicali, I live like 10 Minutes from the border crossing you shown in this video. The next time you are in town I will be glad to show you some cool places in my city, most of the people driving through Mexicali never stops at our city and we have so much to offer.
I feel like that type of repair is best done when closer to civilization incase you round off a bolt or something like that unless it’s an absolute emergency
Oh, 100% that was most definitely a learning experience about where NOT to do a repair. That being said, at least we were close enough to town to get food and supplies.
@SlowRoamers so going south from Bahia Conception just past the turn to San Nicolas is a restaurant/store/ only thing around they serve authentic machaca back to Santa Rosalia they now have a brewery that's very tasty
Honestly, I don’t care for any of them, BUT, knowing what I know now with the help your comment, I think you’re absolutely right. The brakes we recently replaced already have the same issue as the old ones and the PS pump I installed is already whining (yes, I’ve attempted many times to bleed it).🤦🏼 Super frustrating.
@SlowRoamers yup, i recently installed a new engine in my sons P/U. we installed a new water pump, thermostat, fuel pump, all from O'Reilly, they all failed in the 1st month.. It's a shame. They used to be the best behind napa
That doesn’t bode well for us. I may attempt a PS pump replacement if I can’t get the air out of this one. It’s one thing to have rattling brakes, it’s a whole different thing to have that AND a whining pump.
Yep, in general, if you see “Travel Documentary” from us, it’s gonna be a long one because it’s a recap of an entire region. In the future there will be a doc for every country that we visit, so there will be more. Otherwise, it’ll just be our usual 30-45min episodes.
Just for your information... Some Baja Californians find it offensive if you call their home state "Baja. "... Their State is called 'Baja California.' When the Spanish, Tlaxcaltecas and others allies from the Tenochtitlan conquest came to these lands, they named them California and divided them in two; Alta California and Baja California, the 1st one is in the US and the 2nd in México... I have seen several videos, where they always call it Baja, I know, you do not mean it in an offensive way, it is just an effort to bring a little bit of justice to an State that has been struggling to recover it's name for decades... Our Very Own Historian Guadalupe Jiménez is an advocate of this fight. She says, I quote "They stole our land, they stole our name (America), and now they wanna still our name 'California'..."
Thank you for informing us , we really do appreciate you helping us with awareness of this. As you can imagine, it’s hard for us to explore a country and understand the subtle nuances of culture, the meaning of different things and where we may be of offence. You can rest assured we won’t make the mistake again. Thanks for watching and thank you for your comment!
Kevin, thanks for your response. We've been advised of this for the first time in this video, despite having done dozens of Baja California videos. Now we know. Please accept our apologies. It's an error we won't repeat.
Thanks, we were unaware of the cultural significance of the distinct Baja California, but we have been advised a few times since the release of this video. Thanks so much for watching!
When Yall are down there.....or anywhere, actually.........getting low on water, you can use inflatable sun power distiller units to make drinking/cooking water frim sea water , stagnant ponds and, yes, wild horse urune (I've done that), don't ya know?

Yep, in general, if you see “Travel Documentary” from us, it’s gonna be a long one because it’s a recap of an entire region. In the future there will be a doc for every country that we visit, so there will be more. Otherwise, it’ll just be our usual 30-45min episodes.
Video gets better as voices are without music
Thanks for watching
May i ask what if any weapons or protection do you bring with you? Thank you! Please stay safe 🙏
Nothing whatsoever because it’s totally unnecessary. 😊
I appreciate you, thank you! I can tell your the complete opposite of aggressiveness ❤ 🙏@@SlowRoamers
Just a firm believer that the world is still mostly a good place and that street smarts and kindness can win out in a lot of situations. Cheer!
Just for your information... Some Baja Californians find it offensive if you call their home state "Baja. "... Their State is called 'Baja California.'
When the Spanish, Tlaxcaltecas and others allies from the Tenochtitlan conquest came to these lands, they named them California and divided them in two; Alta California and Baja California, the 1st one is in the US and the 2nd in México...
Of course, the ONLY part you didn't replace on the van fails the second you cross the border.. atleast you're on the beach 🤷♂️..
It’s just the way of things.😂😂
You're calling wrong
It's BAJA CALIFORNIA
I think we’ll stay away from the horse urine…😂
LOL you haven't learned that auto parts stores make mistakes all the time?
I should have known!😂🤦🏼
