I don't know why they used the "rich girls don't marry poor boys" line towards Nick when Nick is just as rich as Tom, Daisy, and Jordan. He's not poor, his family comes from Old Money and even though he's trying to be on his own, that doesn't disearn his heritage.
I think it was meant to be a moment of foreshadowing. Remember, Jay Gatsby was dirt poor when he met Daisy. He wanted to marry her but he had no money. Even once he had money, he still could not have Daisy.
@@balletwb94 Yeah, I get that it's foreshadowing, but why does it have to be said towards Nick? It should've been said to someone else or not at all, really. It doesn't change much of the plot, heck, it wasn't even in the original novel. Why follow the trend of a line that A) wasn't even in the book, and B) direct said line at a character who is JUST AS RICH as everyone else???
Well, I think this music fits the scene(s) and the general atmosphere better. The music, costumes, and scenery help me, a person that wasn't even born yet in the 1920's, immerse into this huge, crazy, and chaotic retro party. I am not sure I would get the same feeling by listening to actual 1920's music (Of course I could if I used my imagination, but I'm too lazy for that. All hail the consumer society).
If you actually observe carefully, you'll notice that the music transitions in and out of authentic music of the time and electronic music depending on the context. When the audience is viewing the party, it switches to electronic (because they want you to feel those emotions), when the audience is viewing the characters, the electronic music fades out and period authentic music plays in the background (Except in the library, but music-outside-the-room also adds to the feel of that scene.)
Now THAT is a memorable introduction
So memorable it became a meme.
Jordan is way hotter than Daisy,
Hell yeah
And prettier
She looks very classic, just like the girl born in that old time. The way she speak, her acting...etc.

Late response, but it seems your laptop was so in awe of the reveal that it literally couldn’t handle it.

Jordan is the queen of mixed signals
Reminds me of high school girls
Jordan is my favorite character and crush
Love the way she moves toward him at 1:08
And that shot at 1:10 is undescribable. Almost like it's a POV.

@@balletwb94 it was actually what Ginerva King, fitzgerald's girlfriend during his Princeton days, said when she rejected his proposal.
If you have read the book, you will know nick is not as wealthy, although he is old money...
I just found out that the actress playing Jordan Baker is actually 6’3 💀
1:07 she moves like an anime character there lmao
2:46 the whole thing would have been more magical with period music like this.
When that guy told Nick that rich “girls don’t marry poor boys” he was next to Gatsby 🤧
I guess they had electronic music in the 1920s

The same director who did Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge did this movie and his style of movies is a little over the top and full of anachronisms
Why cut that scene
She is Beautiful than Daisy. What a Gorgeous french women.
Showbik GrG
She’s not French. The actress is from Australia and is of Irish and Polish ethnicity.
They got some electronic music playing in literally 1920s lmao
The director is Baz Lurhman and his movies are kind of bizarre and unreal . Romeo and Juliet and Mulin Rogue are other films of his

This reveal would be way more awesome if they kept Leonardo's role hidden in the trailers, promotions and marketing.
